DH is scheduled for Bunion surgery in July - after we get back from Disney.. I want him to be as comfortable as possible for our trip - in addition to his bunions he has extremely flat feet... Any shoe or sandal recommendations? We need to get them broken in fast since our trip is less than 30 days out!!

Crocs would be good if you kept the backs on and definetly tennis shoes and sometimes swimming shoes are good for parks with wet rides (m.k. & a.k).

Your poor DH. I know what it is like to have terrible feet. I wear Merrell sandals in the park and they are great. They are the most comfortable and don't even look bad. I have not worn Croc, just can not get past the look. My feet are big enough and why attract more attention to them with Crocs.

I have feet that are as flat as a board, very literally. I have always had a hard time finding comfortable shoes. I got crocs recently and I love them! I don't love how they look, but when it comes to comfort in the parks and just out and about, I don't care. I'm not sure that they would be best after bunion surgery (maybe ask the doc?) but I love that they don't have the best arch support. This is so important for those of us without arches. There is nothing worse than feeling like your walking on a big bump or rock all day! I also have a pair of adidas adilette's that I have had for 12 years that I still wear on an almost daily basis in the warm months. I just checked the adidas website...they have them for $25 and they look to be exactly as they were back in '94 when I got my pair.

Good luck finding a good shoe and have lots of fun on your trip!!!

My daughter also has painful bunions, and, as we just found out, very flat feet. I had her at a specialist the other day, and she was wearing her new birkenstocks that I purchased to help alleviate some of the pain, the doc said that these were among the best for the combination of flat feet/bunions. The other thing he suggested was orthotics. We are going to have some made to put into her other shoes. You might want to look into it. The orthotics are supposed to lift up the arch, and therefore the ankle, (which in her case is sort of falling inwards), and this will put less pressure on the bunion area.

Good luck!

Have you tried New Balance? There is a New Balance store in our area that has an orthotist on staff. They can modify the shoes to fit your feet or they can make orthotics that fit in the shoe. I have bunions as well as a bum knee (Total Knee Replacement) and I swear by my New Balance. I also like Crocs, but only for around the house or times when I won't be walking a lot. They are very comfortable and airy and have a nice wide toe box that we bunion folks must have. But when I go to WDW and will be walking miles/day, I'll be in my custom made New Balance. :thumbsup2

I used to sell shoes for 5 years at a 'hard to fit' type of shoe store. It was mostly people with feet problems that shopped there, and I would recommend New Balance also. Probably a running shoe. They are good because they have narrow heels and wider fronts and if you try a wide width that should give him room for comfort from the surgery without falling off his foot. (Also don't forget to lace up that last 'extra' hole that can make all the difference in the world) They are also very comfortable to be in all day and the running shoes have the cloth parts like over the top of the foot so your feet can breathe. Birkenstocks are great but there won't be enough time to break them in properly expecially since he just had surgery and probably doesn't want to walk tons right now. I cannot say as to crocs but they look neat and may be a good bet for a back up or water ride type of shoe. Have fun on your trip!

I have picky feet and love my Skechers (skech-air element) - for women, but I'm sure they have an equivalent style shoe for men. They are the only sneakers I'll buy now, and the only shoes I've never needed to break in. I try them on, they feel good, and I wear them immediately. They have a bunch of "tech" that I don't know or care about, other than that they feel good and don't make my feet hurt.

I'll add another vote for Birkenstocks. I also like Nike Tanjun sneakers (I assume they make them for men as well?)

Go to a local store ( running shoe stores have these) that have a salesperson that can “fit” him and they also have a machine that you can stand on that will read your foot print. ( do you have a Good Feet store?) these places are amazing! I just got a new pair of running shoes and the woman who owned the store was incredible. She watched me walk, asked me a bunch of questions, looked at the tread/sole of my old shoes and then came back with a bunch of different shoes to try. She was very knowledgeable about feet/comfort and even though the shoes were more expensive than getting them on Amazon or an outlet, they are the perfect fit!

Another vote here for Birkenstocks. Those, Chacos, and Brooks are my go to disney shoes.

Brooks are amazing. They are my day to day shoe and I wouldn't wear anything else to DL or WDW. Features and Balega socks are the only socks I wear because I almost never get blisters with them.

I wear Merrills mostly, But other brands I take out the insole and use my prescription arch support.

I have the same problems as your husband. Foot comfort is very important to me, especially if it involves alot of walking.
I wear only Brooks tennis shoes and I absolutely love them. The toe area is wider, and they fit so well. They are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn for trips such as disney. Congrats to your husband for having surgery. I am too much of a chicken, so just suffer along, LOL.
