Ships Quest Question about Pirates of Carribean Game

Thanks for everyone's ongoing help! I have done a search for this question, but can't find the answer.

My question is: Do I have to be on a winning team in the Pirate's of the Carribean game to actually complete that step of the Ships Quest? I'm just not very good at the game (using either the mouse or the keyboard) and always seem to be on the losing team.
