When we went on the Magic last February it only blew it's horn to tell people it was the last tram at Castaway Cay never when pulling out of port. Is this normal? When we had traveled on the Wonder in 2015 it sounded the horn every time we left a port. We are going on the Dream this February and I am hoping to hear all the different horns, but don't want to get my hopes up if they have stopped playing them.

Hi! Just off the Fantasy and they did sound the horns when leaving every port. Also, they sound the horns on sea days at noon :)

Only the Dream Class ships have multiple tunes.

Right, but the Magic only sounded once the whole 5 days. I was hoping I would be able to hear more this time. Happy to hear the Fantasy was still sounding out of ports. I will just assume maybe something was going on with the Magic and it was a "one off" experience. I don't care what song it plays, it is just special to me that is plays a song :)

Or there could have been something going on with water conditions that required concentration. I'm sure there was a reason. If it was something with current conditions, I would much rather the captain focus on safety than sounding the horn.

Sometimes for environmental reasons they don't sound the horn (i.e. Alaska). If you want to see/hear some fun horn "fights" check out YouTube under "cruise ship horn battles." DCL wins every time, unless its against one of its own ships. Just think if DCL added all of the memorable Disney songs it has in their library...the horn would sound for hours. OK by me!!!

Yeah the horn battles are what made me excited lol. I doubt Miami was environmental:). I am happy to hear our experience the second time wasn't typical. Maybe it was a new Captain or maybe the horn was having issues. Who knows, I just enjoyed hearing it when we pulled out the first time because it felt like the "official" start of our vacation and was bummed when it didn't happen last year.

Miami and I believe Ft Lauderdale had to cut down on the battles. It really got out of hand and residents were complaining.

It wasn't a battle just when we were pulling out but I could see how that would get loud/ annoying. Here is to hoping we hear it sometime on the Dream!

Per the nautical rules of the road, you should sound one prolonged blast of the horn when you are getting underway. (And if you are operating astern propulsion, you'd sound the prolonged blast followed by 3 short blasts.) If the ship was leaving Castaway Cay and no other vessels were present, I could see the captain feeling justified in skipping it. However, I'd always sound the horn getting underway on a submarine regardless of if another vessel was present since us Navy nuclear officers have had, "Follow the procedure" beaten into us from a young age. :)

I think there it was a case that the battles got excessive so they just put the kibosh on the whole thing.

The Dream is out of PC and unless there is a problem, it will sound during the Sail Away party.
