Shipping water to college dorm?

Wondering where you find the best deal for bottled water to ship to dorm?
When it gets shipped to the dorm does the water actually get to your child's dorm or does it go to a mail room?

How awkward is it to carry to the dorm if shipped to mail room? I'm thinking my child could store it under their bed?

Where packages get shipped to-is probably a function of the particular campus your child is at. When my DD was in the dorms-they would have gone to the office in her dorm. There was only about 2hours a day you could pick up packages.

The college my niece went to-had a centralized mail center, in the union.

Just tossing out another suggestion-my daughter requested a Brita-filter pitcher, and she kept it full of water in her fridge. She loved being able to fill her water bottles from that.

I'm having a problem with mail getting delivered at the college my son is going to. It's very frustrating.

The P.O Box is probably halfway across campus. That's a long way to walk with a case of water.

Probably just easier to give her the money to buy the water. She is likely going to have to lug it a ways either way. Most student stores carry bottled water.

My DDs packages get sent to the central mail office and she has to carry everything back to her dorm. I agree with the brita, she bought one before she left.

She also got a target red card so she could order things from there and not pay for shipping, but I am not sure if they sell water. We also have amazon prime that she uses, but again, not sure if they sell water.

Keep in mind that many campuses are getting "greener" and banning bottled water (and many are installing some great water bottle refill stations with filtered water!). How about a nice refillable water bottle (or two), a bottle brush (for keeping it clean), and a Brita pitcher with extra filters? .............P

My DS used a brits water bottle. It worked well, the only thing he didn't like was that the way the bathroom sink faucet was, it was hard to wash dishes and they wound up washing things in the shower. He wasn't fond of washing dishes in a bathroom. All rooms had bathrooms, no communal bathrooms.

Packages to both my sons schools went to a central mail location. And they had to go pick up. Any delivery beyond a central location is determined by the school. Of course, my boys just drank tap water so that was never an issue. They had refillable water bottles they carried if they needed them.

Is there something wrong with the tap water? Sorry.. I guess maybe we just live where there is good H2O, but I never understood paying for something that we already get, and is littering up the world at an amazing pace.

We did see some really cool water bottle fillers in the library at CMU. I wonder if they had banned disposable bottles? Hadn't thought of that. Great idea.

We have a Brita filter and Hydroflasks. I imagine kids will use the same thing in college. Plastic water bottles stay cold for about 20 minutes. Hydroflasks stay cold for 24 hours.

It depends on the campus. Where I went to school, everything went to the mail room and you went to pick it up and schlep it back to your dorm. It sucks if your dorm is far away from the mail room, but you just deal with it. Not a big deal. It's probably easier for your kid to just go buy it themselves, though. They'll probably be schlepping it no matter how they get it.

I sent him a care package of cookies, candies--but shipping was $12!! Water is MUCH heavier & would be MUCH costlier. If you could find free shipping, that is worth it, but as inexpensive as water bottles are, you would have to order a lot more stuff to send it free, is my guess.

Tap water is good here in Nebraska as well as at TCU where he is. (we travel a lot and have yet to find a place where it wasn't good) But if you have concerns, the Brita is a great idea.

Does she not have any friends with a car? They could go pick up an inexpensive case of water at the grocery store.

Why the need for bottled water? Get a good water bottle and refill it from a tap. Does the cafeteria perhaps have a good place to fill up with water?

Thank you for your replies. I will pass on info to DD about the Brita pitcher and Hydroflask. DD is not in college yet, just something I wanted to know ahead of time.

My daughter's college discouraged the use of bottled water. They went so far as to issue University cups to every student. When there was an event, you brought you own cup - they did not have disposable cups available.

Many dorms now have a bottles water dispenser in the halls with a really neat adapter that makes filling or refilling bottles easy and free!

Why? Many tap waters are actually better than bottled. And her campus will have different water than what you have at home.

That's an awful lot of wasted plastic.... a brita bottle/pitcher is worth a try.

Then I would be telling the princess to get a job and buy her own bottled water. Nothing wrong with tap water. Tell her to buy some Crystal Light packs to put in the tap water. Colleges here have banned bottle water and have the refill water stations.

Oh I'm glad to know some colleges have banned bottle water. Yes she will have to adapt.
