How do you ship things to your resort ahead of time? I mean, how do they know it's for you when you're not even there yet?? How far ahead do you do it, and how to you ensure it gets there and stays there until you arrive to get it???

Ship it to arrive no sooner than 5 days prior to your arrival.
When you think it should be there, call to find out if it arrived.
Put it to the attention of "(Your name), Guest", and include your reservation number.
Everything should work out just fine. I've never done this at Disney, but I've done it other places, where I've shipped work materials ahead of my arrival. I learned about the "5-day rule" for Disney resorts on this board.
We just sent a box via UPS. You can go to UPS.com here http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/shipping/index.html and "calulate time and cost" It's a very nifty tool. We were able to figure out exactly how to send our box via ground transport to close to the day we arrive. It was cheaper than USPS too.
We put:
Resort Name "Bell Services"
for Guest [insert name] arriving mm/dd/yr
resort address
and their form requires a phone number so we put our cell #.
UPS is the best, and their tracking is updated every time a new location scan is made. It also gives you an estimated date of arrival, and in my experience it is always right on. It's like magic.
I would not use the US Postal Service, as even with delivery confirmation or their 'tracking', the information on their site is days behind. I have had, in most instances, a package arrive at the destination and their site still advising "received billing information, awaiting departure scan".
I went strictly UPS long ago. 5 day rule and all the info as stated above and you will be fine.
We just came back from Disney and I shipped a box by UPS approximately a week before we were due to arrive. It arrived 3 days before we arrived. I put our resort's address on the box and put it to our attention and our confirmation# When we got to our room, we had a message on our phone letting us know we had a package waiting for us.
