Yep, I use a 2kw step down transformer. Element/Motor based appliances (like waffle makers and ice cream machines) draw a fair bit of power to do what they do. The golden rule is generally 80%, i.e whatever you are plugging into the transformer should not take up more than 80% of the capacity of the transformer.
