shipping a dress from the states to the uk

just wondered if any uk brides had bought their dress over the internet from the states and had it shipped over here? Was customs cost really expensive?

I've seen a dress here that is £699 but its only $575 online from an american online site.

dont know whether to buy here , online, or from a shop when I go for my planning trip in November??

i considered it but when i looked into all the charges i could get it here for the same price.

I also looked at ordering it from a shop in orlando to pick up at my planning session but when i called they didnt really know the dress and it worried me a bit

I brought my Alfred Angelo wedding dress from the states. Shipping fee was about £90 in total. This included the customs charge and the fee you have to pay the courier (i think that was £25).

I was told it would take up to 10 weeks and it came in 5. It was sent by UPS and i could track it on the internet. I was very happy with the service i received. I was a little suprised at the overall customs charges but it still worked out alot cheaper than the dress was from the UK, plus i asked for the dress to be made 3 inches shorter and this was no extra cost.

customs charges can be around 30% of the cost of your item, so it's still gonna be cheaper than buying it here.....

I brought my dress from somewhere on ebay called Elegant Fashion. I have an email address if you need me to PM it let me know. The ladies there couldn't be more helpful. I was going to get bridesmaid dresses through them but i found somewhere in the UK for just as cheap. But i saved hundreds on my dress. If they haven't got what your looking for on their website you can ask and they can find it. One of my bridesmaid dresses wasn't on the website and they managed to find it (all Alfred Angelo).
