Anyone stayed at the Sheraton Safari Resort. Prices are good and their web site looks nice. Looks like a poor man's AKL

I stayed there one night last January. It was fine. The room was very clean and the beds super comfy. The staff at check-in were cheerful and very helpful in providing info. about dining in the area. I was only there the one night and didn't use the pool or transportation. I think I paid around $40 on pricelilne.

Sorry no pics, but i stayed there for 2 nites in July!My daughter loved the pool and the gators in the lobby ,room was clean ,close to some great restraunts,(orlando ale house :thumbsup2 )Close to downtown disney.Downside :confused3 Needs some spiffing up,
Don

If you scroll up this page to the hotel reviews sub board, you can find a review of Sheraton Safari, with pictures.

We stayed there last fall on a deal through travelzoo, and we loved it! The rooms are clean and comfy. We loved the grounds and the kids loved the water slide. They have an excellent, reasonably priced breakfast buffet. We paid $59 per night, and if we could get that deal again, we would stay without hesitation.

Mickeep,

FYI, Travelzoo has a special for Sheraton Safari RIGHT NOW for $59. per night, for dates up to Dec 21. I just booked for 2 nights in Nov.

Go to www.travelzoo.com and select "lodging", & Orlando. It is the offer at the very top of the screen. Hope this helps!

I was going to suggest the review board too.

We stayed here once. It is probably my favorite offsite hotel in the WDW area. It was super clean and a great deal. We spent a few nights via priceline as well. The staff were really great, and we got the room type we requested (even w/ priceline and it being spring break timeframe). The beds are the "heavenly beds" and soooo comfortable. All in all we found it to be a really great place. The location is right outside the DTD resort area.

Thanks so much for the info. I immediately went to travelzoo and got the $59 rate.

They refer to it as Business Deluxe City View

Thanks again

Actually the travelzoo rate with the code "WILDTIME" was not available when we were planning on being there but there was another code available that also got us the $59 rate.

I've stayed at Sheraton Safari and Animal Kingdom Lodge "The poor mans AKL"
comment is right on the money!!! :lmao: I will say tho,the beds at Sheraton Safari are SO MUCH more comfortable then the ones at AKL.They have those sweet sleeper beds that are AMAZING.

We are going to Epcot F&W Festival on 9/29 and are thinking about staying there that night. How is the transportation from the parks back to the hotel?

The first time we went to Disney we stayed off sight at the Sheraton Safari we were very pleased with the hotel as I stated above the beds were AMAZING! As far as the transportation I remember having to go to several motels for pick-ups and the bus was packed.People standing everywhere holding on to the bar above your seat. The person I was lucky enough to have stand next to my seat had HORRIBLE armpit odor and he wore a tank top. :sad2: I would get a rental car because afterward when your tired and just want to go back to your room you have to go drop everybody off at the different hotels first.

Thanks for the advice we will definetly get a car.

We are at POR thru 9/28 and are going to EPCOT F&W festival on 9/29. Plans are to stay with friends on 9/29 but I was looking for another option if we needed it. We do not want to drive after drinking at the Food & Wine Festival.

Sounds like we should probably look for another Disney Resort if we end up needing a place to stay on 9/29.

Worse case you could get a taxi back to the hotel. It's really close to DTD- right outside the resort area-- and not really too far from Epcot.
I'd figure a rough estimate of the cost of taxi + the hotel, and compare it to another hotel you're interested in, and see which is a better deal.
