My aunt lost her battle with bone cancer at 5:40pm Friday.
She was so much more than an aunt, she was my sister, my friend, my second Mom, my everything.
She survived colon cancer 10 years ago only to have it come back with a vengeance late last year.
We thought she'd beat this one, too... she never let ANYTHING get her down.
This one got her though.
She was raised by my parents till she married, she was the youngest of 14 and my Dad was the oldest. She and my oldest sister were born within a year of each other! I was born when she was 13, she was that crazy big sister who did everything bad but it was just funny!
Many years later when my parents became ill, she quit her job in NY to come down to take care of them... and she did till they both passed.
She had three of my favorite cousins, two top military, one a PhD and the oldest is the top hair stylist in Atlanta. She raised them alone after her husband left her, and they treasured the ground she walked on.
And so did I.
I will miss her but she is no longer in pain.
God bless....
