We are finally leaving for our Free Dining trip this week. I plan on doing reviews when I get back, but here are the places where we have ADRs. (It's fun to write about plans!)
On our arrival day, we have an ADR for dinner at Chefs de France at 4:50. That should be a good time to be there for Remy's appearance at 5:20. When we saw him last year, he was supposed to be leaving Florida shortly afterward. I'm so excited we'll get to see him again, plus our friends are with us this time and know nothing about him.
Last year, I got the 3 course fixed prixe meal and chose onion soup, short ribs and creme brulee. I wasn't crazy about the soup. Maybe we got an off-batch? It happens. The ribs and brulee were both excellent though. This year, I will probably change it up and pick the lobster soup or salad and the chicken. I ordered DS just soup last year because I didn't think he'd eat much more. We have a pub in walking distance of our home, and he gets just that all the time and is fine. He wound up embarassing us because he ate like crazy off mine and my husband's plates. Plus he plowed through an entire basket of bread by himself!
This year, he can order a whole meal if he's hungry. I'm not going through that again!
Next night, we are at Ohana. We got a 5:20 ADR, which should be early enough for us to make it back to the MK for MSEP at 9:00. My BFF thinks she saw it in the late 1970s when she went with her parents as a teenager. I've only seen Spectro and love it, so I'm thrilled to get the chance to see MSEP.
The following day, we are at Mama Melrose for a late lunch at 2:50. That park is so hot, you need an early break if you're going to last until Fantasmic. We actually have the Fantasmic package--something DH and I thought was great last year. DH is looking forward to a pitcher of sangria here.
Next up is dinner at the Cape May Cafe. We are very excited about the snow crab legs--never had them there before--and the freshly made lava cakes. The dinner here and at Ohana have been consistently excellent for us throughout our Disney trips. They're our favorites.
I was not able to get an ADR at Chef Mickey's for dinner the next day. I had one for 4 people when I originally booked my ADRs in February, but by the time our friends decided to join us in April, it was impossible to get a decent time. I'd have taken a breakfast if one were open at a decent hour, but at that point, it was either 9:00 p.m. for dinner or 7:00 a.m. breakfast. No way to either! When lunch bookings opened, I snagged one of those. We've always had dinners here that were pretty decent, but I have to admit wasn't as good the last couple trips. I'm hoping it's better this time; I chose it again because DS and his cousin really wanted it.
The next day I'm leaving loose for park plans and figured that's a good time to visit one of the knock-out Disney resorts. Our friends have never seen any Disney resorts except for what's on the monorail. I scheduled a 9:30 breakfast at Boma and a 5:00 dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe. We tried Boma for dinner in 2002 and didn't like it, but my son has been asking to see the AKL, so we'll give breakfast a shot. If all goes according to plan, this may be one more meal than we need, so perhaps we'll skip it or the WCC that night. Or pay cash for one. We'll see. My ADRs have never gone exactly the way we've planned them.
We ate at the WCC for both breakfast and dinner when we stayed at the WL in 2002. We didn't love it either meal. The breakfast skillet was actually pretty bad. Dinner food was tasty enough, but cheap quality and kind of meh. I picked both meals mainly because I think our friends will want to see these resorts.
Our last full day in the World is at Epcot and evening EMH. Wow, this is a hard night to find ADRs anywhere near that park! I hung onto the LeCellier ADR I made back in February for 4 people at 4:30. We will be 7 people, though. There are a couple of alternatives here. First, we will ask if they can accommodate 7 of us. If not, depending on how many credits we have left to use, we may ask the boys (3 teens) if they want to eat somewhere on their own. They might want to go to the ESPN Lounge, so we can send them there while we four adults eat at LeCellier. Or we may cancel if we can get into Via Napoli and have all 7 of us eat there instead.
So these are our plans. I can hardly wait to go!
