There have been a few threads recently about sharing meals on the DDP/DxDDP, which I'll admit, I had never even thought of! Since it looks like the consensus is that you are permitted to share at most restaurants, we may plan to give this a try to spread credits on our upcoming trip.

Can anyone share their experience with doing this and how it actually is handled in the restaurants? Do most restaurants split the meal in the kitchen prior to serving? Do you have to request separate plates and split yourself? Is this generally "frowned upon" (i.e. will we receive lesser service for doing so?). TIA for all of your input!

If it helps, our ADR's include:

Mama Melrose (would likely share here!)
Jiko
Kona Café
Narcoossee's
Yachtsman Steakhouse
Whispering Canyon Café (understand no sharing)
Via Napoli (understand no sharing)
Teppan Edo (understand no sharing- CP package)

I'm interested in sharing at Yachtsman!! We will have my sister with us (no DP, my DH and I are on DxDP) that night, and I know that her and I can split a steak there and not be hungry.....since we are on DxDP, we would be intited to 2 apps as well as 2 entree's and 2 desserts. Sharing the 2 apps and 2 desserts 3 ways should be no issue, but I didn't know if her and I could split an entree since she's not on a DP........

I can attest to my recent experience sharing at Yachtsman and Via Napoli - we were not on the DP though.

Yachtsman - We each ordered our own appetizer, and then split the 16oz Rib Eye. The server spit the Rib Eye on two plates and gave each of us one of the sides that came with the Rib Eye (Brioche on one plate, Bone Marrow on the other). The server asked if we wanted different sides, but I was really excited about the bone marrow - it was delicious! I was surprised how large the split Rib Eye was, even sharing I couldn't finish :<

Via Napoli - I have heard that if you are on the DP that sharing is not allowed here. We split one appetizer, the family salad, and then one individual pizza. We just ate everything family style.

Both servers didn't bat an eye and were very courteous.

That's the entrée my sister and I were thinking of splitting! I might order an extra side, since I wouldn't consider the bone marrow a side, but I am really interested in trying it, and I know my sister would be as well!!

Hopefully we will get no grief like you even though we are on the DP.

If you tell the server in advance at any TS restaurant, many times the meal will be split in the kitchen by the chef and presented on two beautiful plates.

DS and I just split an entree & dessert at Whispering Canyon. It was a full rack of ribs and a piece of pie. (Not part of all you can eat.) We were not on the DP, so not sure if we would have gotten a different answer if we had been.
