Sharing food

I am trying to figure out a food budget for a future trip. It will be me, DH, DD(6) and DD (4). Just wondering if at some sit down meals, is it possible to not have to order 2 adult meals. Maybe just one adult meal, appetizer and kids meal. Like at Whispering Canyon, I think it would be a waste for us to order 2 all you can eats. Would it be okay if one of us just ordered and appetizer? Thanks

Do this often since I'm diabetic and most time they split and plate it before bringing to table.Sorry I can't answer you question on WCC. :goodvibes :sunny: :wizard:

wow! that's such great news cuz DH :smooth: and I like to share, :love2: then
if we are still hungrey (unlikely) we can share a desert! So the restaurants
(Yachtsmans SH, SCI FI, Narcoosees) do not frown upon this??? Please let
me know cuz that would be soooo great!!!!! :drinking1

DH and I split meals all the time in WDW, especially at the pricey places. They are used to it. Like the other poster said, you can do it anywhere except buffet/AYCE places. Just tell your server you are splitting your meals and they usually will split it in the kitchen and serve it on two plates. We've never had a problem. If you are still hungry and/or don't think the entree will be enough for 2, remember you can split an appetizer or dessert!

We usually split a salad a meal and a dessert so we can try a bit of everything. I know sci-fi is cool with it as is prime time we don't eat at a lot of the resorts though so I'm not sure about those

We're hoping to do this too. One meal between DH and I and a kids meal each for the boys and the baby can have some of everyone's! lol I dunno about Whispering Canyon though. Is that 'family style' where they bring out the food on a big platter. So in that case, would they charge everyone? Maybe it's not family style. Anyone know more about this?

My Wife and Myself split meals at alot of the restaureant at WDW. We have never had any problem with doing this. Most of the time they will bring it to your table already split.

WCC will not let you share the skillet, supposedly. I did, however, order the rosted chicken from the menu and then sample to my hearts content from DH and DD7's last year :) I think that as long as you order something; even just a soup or appetizer they won't yell at you. What they do is keep coming by and replensihing what you ask for on the skillet. I know DD9 ate her kids meal and then helped dad and sis with theirs too

At most places at WDW, sharing is not a problem. (With the exceptions listed above - buffets and all you can eats). The Whispering Canyon skillet is different. Since the skillet is AYCE, you really can't share. Although I remember reading once on the boards that you can ask for the skillet and say you don't want it to be AYCE and then share that. I dont' know. I didn't do that personally. When we went to Whispering Canyons, DH got the skillet, DD12 & I shared the roasted chicken and DD9 got the PB&J. There would have been enough on my roasted chicken plate for me and both girls, but DD9 won't eat chicken. So we had to order her a separate kids meal. DD12 did sample a rib from DH's plate, but for the most part he ate that. The only thing he asked for seconds on was the corn bread.

Thanks for all the great info! I just don't know if Whispering Canyon would be worth it for us because I think it would just be a lot of wasted food!

You don't have to have the AYCE skillet at WC. They serve plenty of other good food. At lunch, their hamburgers are excellent. I also have enjoyed their chicken quesadilla appetizer as a meal. Yummmm!

Oh my gosh...I know everyone said they give you lots of food at Disney but I nearly died when I saw the size of the kids PB&J above!!!!! That is enough for both my kids for lunch AND dinner (heck, and probably a snack too with the grapes and chips!)...
WOW!
