We are having dinner with another family. One family is on the dining plan and the other is not. Is it possible to use the first families dining plan for the whole group. Each family has 3 people. Would we be able to use 6 dining credits that night? I think the answer might be no, but I wanted to check. We wanted to go to another restaurant with them on another night that wasn't on the dining plan. We were hoping to be able to use 6 credits one night from the dining plan and the second family would pay on the other night.

The answer is NO. Your card is linked to the number of people in the room - 3. So only 3 dining credits can be used.

Not at a TS restaurant. If you want to use CS credits, I had DD16 pay for two and I paid for two (it was just the two of us on the dining plan, but we had too many CS meals for us, so paid for my sister and BIL a few times -- the DP was really economical for sister, not so much for me :rotfl:)

No, the credits can be used only by the people who are on the plan. Here's the answer from the Dining Plan FAQs on the Disney website:

Q. Can I use my Disney Dining Plan to redeem meals for friends or family members who
are not included in my reservation or have not purchased a Disney dining plan?
A. Sorry, you may not use your Disney Dining Plan to redeem meals for friends or family
members who are not included in your reservation or have not purchased a Disney
dining plan.

Actually the answer is YES!!! We do this all the time. We have friends that live in the Orlando area so when we do the DXDP we always take them out to eat, at a TS! We just do a 1 credit restaurant instead of a 2. it all works out the way I see it. It's my credits I should be able to use them however I want. Like I said we have done this several times and not a word has ever been said. Some of the places we have done this have been:
Le cellier, Captains Grille, Tusker House, Ohana, Kona Cafe, 50s Prime Time, La Hacienda and Crystal Place. I'm sure there's more I just can't remember them all! We just tell the server please take X number of credits off my plan.

Every year we use the Dining Plan ,we have local relatives that meet us for dinner...Every server since 2004 has asked us which meals ,would be paying with the Dining Plan. We had 5 people on our KTTW card ...6 guest's.
Never... have any of them, let it slide.
However...We did have one server charge us for the cheapest meal. That was nice! They let us know they did that.

The Wave, Le Cellier. Chef de France, Tuttu Italia, Japanese...etc.

Hum... so am I just really lucky? I didn't even know that you couldn't do that. I do remember one time at 50s prime time, I think. The waiter said do you want me to take a credit for everyone cause its says there's just 2 in your party and I'm confused. We said oh yeah they're just visting and he said oh ok. I thought that was a bit strange but that's the closest thing that has ever happened. So on that note what's the difference if I want to go to a 2 credit TS or eat 2 meals at a 1 credit TS. By the way this has happened, there was 2 of us and we were leaving but had 3 TS credits left and used them all at the same time. So I shouldn't even be able to do that!? It's not like I haven't paid for these meals-why can't I use them how I want to.

Yep, you are really lucky. You paid for the meals, but what you bought is Disney's Dining Plan...and they spell out exactly what you get for your money. Which is meals & snacks for the people you bought the plan for. If you read the brochure that Disney gives you explaining the dining plans (all of them) it plainly says you cannot purchase meals for people who are not on the plan. Scroll up to the post #4 above that has the Q & A in red...that question & answer is copied directly from the Disney Dining brochure. You can buy 3 meals for yourself at once, yes. But you're not supposed to be buying 3 meals and giving 2 of them to people who are not on the plan.

We've been to Disney on one or the other dining plan about 12 times in last 3 years, and been to over 50 of the Disney table service restaurants, almost always with another party. Sometimes both parties have been on dining plans, sometimes not. But in all our restaurant meals only once has a server suggested all 3 meals could come off one card (when our card said 2 adults, and the other person in our party was on a solo card.)

Well thanks for the info. So you can use them for yourself, just not for other people. I honestly just never gave it a second thought, since no one had ever said a single word.

You were lucky.

Any why can't you use them how you want? Because when you bought it, you agreed to the rules that Disney has set forth for the plan... and the official rule is you can not do it (as was quoted in the PP).
