Sharing at TS restaurants (not on DDP)

I'm asking on behalf of my best friend who is going to be surprising her kids, and husband with a trip to WDW from 2/14-2/19.

Is sharing a meal permitted at a table service restaurant if you are paying out of pocket? Like say at 50s Prime Time for lunch?

I searched the thread for this topic but going back a few pages and then clicking other random pages, I couldn't find anything.

Thanks!

Yes it is :cool1:

In fact my daughter and I do this every trip! From my experience, Disney serves HUGE portions and we both have no problems filling up with one plate to share..

And if for some reason we are still hungry we can now afford dessert!:woohoo:

Perfect, thank you. I thought I read that it was OK, but DH and I do the dining plan when we travel and I know it's a little more challenging to share a TS credit, right - easier when it's being paid for out of pocket? This is perfect, and like you said - then you've got room for dessert.

Thanks!

There are actually more than one current thread running on this subject.

You cannot share at buffets, at all you can eat family style restaurants (like Ohana or Garden Grill), at fixed price, fixed menu restaurants (like CRT or Akershus) or dinner shows. You also cannot share the all you can eat skillet at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Anyplace else it appears to be allowed. There might be a few restrictions on the dining plan, but there's no dining plan involved here.

If you tell them when you are ordering sometimes they will even split the food before it is served to you. This way you are not making a mess trying to move the food from plate to plate.

My wife and I always split meals at WDW. We just came back from another wonderful trip where we split many of our meals.

When I travel with my sis, we always have a designated Moocher...far better to have room for desserts, as the pp have said.
It's harder when I travel with DH, b/c he always thinks he wants his own thing, but I always try to - it saves a lot of $$$

Is this allowable at the Signature type restauarants? OH and I love a great steak (especially when we come to the USA!), but when we look at the menus the sizes are very daunting! We hate being overfull and would rather share for example a 20oz steak (1 each seems so huge!) and maybe add a couple of extra sides. Is this allowable in places like YHS, Shula's etc?

We did a lot of entree-sharing during our last visit; no problem. Some places split the plate for us, others just brought us an extra plate.

Yes, at Disney restaurants. Be careful if you are on the dining plan. We did have one report (and only one) that California Grill did not allow a child to share with an adult on the dining plan; the child had to order their own entree.

I believe Shula's, which is not a Disney restaurant, charges a plate-splitting fee.

Thank you. We're not on the DP, so that's good. A plate-splitting fee sounds reasonable to me. We just really didn't want to waste so much food.

My husband can eat like a horse and still not gain weight or be full so he likes his own appetizer, entree and sometimes dessert. I have to watch portions and carbs because I am diabetic. My daughter and I frequently split table service meals and appetizers. Keeps me from overeating and leaves her enough room for dessert. As Bicker said, some restaurants split the plate for you if they know you are sharing, others just bring you an extra plate and you divide it yourself.
