I now feel I could go on Tower of Terror after some great tips you guys gave for reducing any impact. I thought it would be a great idea to see if you all have ideas that could help me and others go on rides we didn't think we could do. Could we share our favorite ways to reduce the physical stress of rides?

For Tower of Terror the suggestions of bracing during all the drops and sitting on a sweater appealed to me.

I have a disintegrating disc right where the bra strap is on my back. I avoid dinosaur, indy jones, body wars, back to the future, etc type rides as most are just too rough on my body. I was in pain for a long time after doing indy for about the 5th time in my life at DL. NEVER EVER AGAIN.

For simulators like Star Tours I try to ride with the simulator like prepare for the turns and jolts. I brace my back to the seat and try hard to not make those sudden turns.

I love roller coasters and started on the Bobsleds at age 3. I brace myself, make sure safe equipment is tight enough and then try to be one step ahead of the turns.

Kilamanjaro safari sit up front, again the pain oh the pain of the back rows that are over the wheels. I barely made it through that ride it was so bad.

Kilimanjaro is rough. I usually sit as close to DH as I can and he helps keep me still and helps to prevent jerkiness.

I found that on Big Thunder when I squeezed in one car with my two DDs (DD8 was scared) I didn't move around nearly as much. It was better than the first time - that time it was just me and DS and I was jerked around ALOT!

Also on Splash DH and DD and I all squeezed into one seat. Again this really helped.

Star Tours - I brace myself there to. Scoot bake into the seat as far as I can and hold on. Of course now I know the ride so well I know when to expect things.

I had no problems on Everest or Rockin' rollercoaster (other than my own fear of going upside down :scared1: )

Another tip - after you see a show (Fantasmic, Indy, Beauty and Beast, etc) wait for most of the crowd to leave. The worst injury I had was leaving Indy - some woman couldn't control her ECV and slammed into the back of my chair. She thought it was funny. I hurt so bad it brought tears to my eyes.

Also the trolley tracks along main street are killer!! Be very cautious around them!!

If I think of anything else I'll let you know!

It seems like for some rides that pushing back into the seat and doing your best to keep yourself braced and locked in position may be enough to keep from being hurt for some. I would think it would be harder on the dark rides though.

It depends on why the person has a back problem. I have scoliosis, shoulder and hips go right while ribs go left. The scoliosis is not affected by rides. The disc is affected by the jackhammer type of rides when you bounce hard as in Indy. The disc is affected also when I make sudden movements at the waist. By bracing myself and riding with the the tracks I can avoid suddenly being flung to one side.

Yes darkness does not help as I look for the tracks and surroundings as a guide. Right turn ahead is what my brain says so I am flung to the left side. I wish Indy and other rides had a non joustling version so I could actuall enjoy the ride.
