Hello all

We're toying with taking a trip at the end of January and figured that rather than buying AP's this time(as we don't know when we'd next visit, plus the prices are so cheap currently with tickets) we'd join the shareholders club. I was toying with just getting the 20 shares to save the renewal fee. Is that the most cost effective route? or is it cheaper to get the 5 and pay the fee?

Also I went to sign up for the halifax account and they wanted me to deposit £100 upfront. Is that right and was I choosing the right account? I chose the share dealer account that lets you deal in real time. Also is there a better company or alternative one to use for the share purchase?

Also how long has it taken folks to get their shareholder card once they apply? we'd be going the end of January so I figure that'd be fine but thought I'd ask.

Any other pitfals I should watch out for when buying them?

thanks folks :)

Rhys

I bought my shares yesterday. I opened a Halifax Stocks and Shares ISA and didn't have to pay anything upfront. It's brilliant! Not only do you get discounts etc, you get the knowledge that you own a little bit of DLP!!

As for how many you buy, you'll have to pay a £17.50 broker fee when you purchase them so 21 shares cost me £97. It's possible cheaper to buy 5 and pay the membership fee but I believe you have to pay it every 2 years to renew so it's probably cheaper in the long run to buy 20+

seems I was choosing the wrong account then :) which is the exact one I want?

if you are planning on going back again then it is a great way to save money. you would roughly have to spend 750 euros there before you start making any clear discounts.

salon mickey is a great perk as well. i am not really a breakfast person so being able to go to the park for emh and then to salon mickey for a bite to eat is wonderful.

I'm sure other have just opened a normal share trading account & had to transfer £100 into it before they could trade. Then that is the money they will use to buy the shares. As I understand it a Stocks & share ISA is a stocks savings account, where you invest in companies. This is only needed if you plan to invest in many companies. If your only buying shares in Disneyland Paris then stick with a normal share trading account.

Yes I had to transfer £100 into the account when I opened it - but the shares cost about £85 then I transferred the other £15 back into my normal account.
So I think this is the right account

Hi Everyone,

If you are a shareholder what sort of benefits does this entitle you to? I keep hearing people mentioning being a shareholder and I've no idea what you get apart from owning some shares.

If I bought some shares now would I get any benefits for my trip at the beginning of Decmeber or does it take longer than that to sort it all out?

Also does anyone know how I buy some shares in the Republic of Ireland? Halifax pulled out of Ireland earlier this year.

Sorry for all the questions!

Paula

Me again!! After I made my post above I found a really long 14 page thread which answered most of my questions except where I can buy my shares in the Republic of Ireland as Halifax is now closed here. Could I open an on-line account with the UK Halifax even though I'm in the Republic of Ireland?

Any help would be grately appreciated!!

The £100 upfront account is definitely the right one. This isn't 'extra' money that you have to pay, it is the money that you are going to buy the shares with. I did what lola did - I put in the £100, bought the shares and then withdrew my change back into my bank account (though I only got £4.75 change!)

going to be doing this once I get paid :) thanks all
