Shanty Town Ocean City MD

Does anyone know the details about why they demolished Shanty Town in Ocean City Maryland?

I did a web search and saw some city council minutes about it.

We are here in OC right now and miss the village.

I had no idea they demolished it!!!!
I haven't been to OC in a couple years, but I loved that place, it was so neat.

A builder bought up the property and they have built multi million $$$ homes there. I guess the Shanty Town ownes saw a way to make some good money. They were barely surviving there as it was.

No they are selling the lots where Shanty Town was. No homes built there yet.They built multi million dollar homes over on Stinky Beach and by the harbor. There used to be a marina where you could rent boats and that is gone but they are building townhouses or condos there.

We were there today taking pictures where the stores were. That was a nice quaint area and loved the shops there.

A friend of ours bought a lot from the builder who bought Shanty Town property. He's putting a $5 million home on it. He's nuts! LOL!

It didn't say when they demolished Shanty town though.

Over on Stinky Beach they are building 6 bedroom 5 bath, with elevators, etc. they are in the 5 million range. Beautiful homes but a shame because that was a natural beach. Those people really do have a million dollar view.

I thought I saw Shanty Town gone in the summer of 2003. We go to OC 2-3 weeks every summer and were so used to spotting it as we came into OC. I believe it was 2 years ago at least that they tore it down. It wasn't there in 2004 and I kind of remember it being gone the year before that too.

We haven't been to OC since 2000. It has been interesting to see all the things that have changed.

As you can tell I love my Disney but I also LOVED OC But now I can't stand it down there anymore then a couple of days .I use to drive down just for the day from B-More.The parks are bad the ,beach is getting worse,evrything has just priced itself right out of the market.This was another big decision for me to Buy in to DVC.With cheap Air I can go to WDW for almost the same price as OC and get nothing in return.I loved Shanty-town and all the Old OC Charm but they polished it to platinium and I just can't justify the expense anymore.
I'll still go for a weekend or so offpeak (if there is such a thing anymore)but no more 6 or7 times a year.

Once we found WDW we didn't go to OC as often. It was cheaper for us to go to WDW than OC. A business opportunity in DC allowed me a few days in OC. Rates are quite reasonable this time of year. Today was beautiful on the beach.

I agree about what has happened in OC. It's a shame.

I like it down this time of year also and OCD11 loves the boardwalk so it great.but we leave for WDW on FRi.and can't wait
Enjoy and get some fishers pc and saltwater taffy no OC trip would be complete without it

We leave in the morning. For us it was Thrashers fries, Caruso pizza and Phillips. Dumsers ice cream was my daughters favorite.

I agree about OC being overpriced. I laugh whenever I read someone complaining about WDW's deluxe hotel prices. I pay less for the Poly then I do for a hotel in OC. I do get an oceanfront room in OC but that is nothing compared to a hotel in WDW with a view of the castle! If I didn't blow so much on souveniers at WDW then I'd probably be spending more at OC just due to the fact that everything little thing costs. Whereas I can go to WDW for the day and be totally entertained for a measly $50. I have an AP so it really works out to less then $15 a day! People that complain about Disney's high cost just don't know how much of a bargain WDW truly is.
