Shaken, Not Stirred, With a Twist of Pixie Dust! A Food and Wine Trip!NEW! Pgs.75,76

There are a few recipes I plan on trying including the one for Sachertorte -- after reading the recipe, I wish I had tried it at Food and Wine.

Oh Sachertorte! YUM! If you try it, let me know how it turns out, that brings back some really great memories for me.

Love the souvies. That poster is great! I'm so glad the two of you had such a wonderful adults only weekend!

Oh you should totally take advantage of the GF dining! I was really happy with the 1900 breakfast... we had a late "brunch" it was perfect. We are booked at Narcossee's this time around... if I can spell it! HA!;) Looking forward to your PTR!!!!

Hi CP...

I know I haven't been around on one of your PTR/TR's in awhile (I think since your June 08 trip...you did go then right? :confused3) but we seem to have many of the same Diser friends and I agree that are some of the best friends I have even though we have never really met...:goodvibes

Had to jump over and read this latest TR from your couple's only trip for you and DH and for the food & wine F. ... :thumbsup2 thanks for all the handy links.

My DH & I are hoping to go on a 15 yr anni trip just the two of in 2011 and have been recently thinking more about going in the fall for the F & W F...more the food part than the wine part for us though.

So glad you had a good time and it was a fun read and pictures to look at! Your next trip sounds great GF on a discount and for a sweet b-day surprise...princess:

couple quick questions:

is the little gift card wrist band to pay for all the food/wine choices? How much did you budget if you don't mind me asking?

and how does the DDP play into this? (if you know), I saw the icon by some of the choices in some of your pictures. Would it be considered a snack credit only ?

Thanks,

Scrappie J~

Oh and the Dis-never's Eaten at Le Cellier Club still rocks :rotfl: (from PracPerfPatricia's last TR)

I love the print you got also. That is so great about GF!! So Charles is glad about just 5 days huh:lmao: It looks like he really enjoyed your "Adults Only" time though. I'm sure you will all have a great time. Do you know what ADR's you want yet?

Hi Jackie!

Your souvenir pics are great. Good choices!

Yay for a birthday trip at the Grand Floridian! Chelsea is a lucky girl!

/
Don't you just love it when you have a trip to plan for? Even better, a surprise trip! :yay: Our trip to AKL that we just returned from was a surprise for our DH11 and the reveal was perfect. If you don't already have a plan, I can tell you what we did.

My DH is not addicted to Disney like I am, but he is developing a soft spot for Mickey and the AKL. He actually encouraged me to book the Bounceback that was in our room. :woohoo: I think he felt bad b/c we had to cancel our night at Epcot (CP Package and all) due to thunderstorms. So, I booked a return trip to the AKL for the 1st week of Dec. 2010. :cloud9: After we got home, he decided that he really wanted to wait until the beginning of Feb. 2011 (hot weather months are out of the question). He teaches high school and college classes and Dec. is tough for him to miss with exams, etc... Anyway, I'm not cancelling the room for AKL yet, the rate is just too great to pass up for now. Hopefully, when rates come out for 2011 this summer, I can find us a great code for Feb. If not, maybe by then he will rethink December. ;)

I'm planning on reading along on your PTR. I get excited for anyone who has a trip on the horizon!

Isn't Mad Hatter the funniest? I don't know how he comes up with it all so quickly but he had us in stitches the last time we ate there....

He is great! I can't wait to see what he does this summer!

Oh I can't wait until the last day of my TR.......you will LOVE the story about our Mad Hatter experience.....it was TOO cute!

I am looking forward to hearing about it and Megan's reaction to his craziness!

What color are you thinking? Are you going to do it yourself? Hmmm, I sense another reason to head over to Home Depot for Mickey head paint chips :rotfl: I love painting, but have had enough after painting my classroom in August. Teachers where I work usually paint their own classrooms to get rid of the institutional colors. My room was the color of the psych ward of a hospital I volunteered at in college. That was NOT going to work.

I would like to do a pumpkin custard kind of color. What color did you do your classroom?

When's your ADR date? I see 1900 Park Fare may be on the list. I should post a photo of the cake I ordered there for my parents' 35th anniversary. It's not expensive and would make a perfect 13th birthday cake. Maybe I should save that for your PTR :goodvibes

I would love to see a photo of the cake. I might want to do one of those Mad Hatter cakes for Chelsea.

Our ADR date is January 19 -- can't wait! Thank goodness for the online ADR system -- I can make them all before leaving the house that day.

Our ADR date is at the end of February and my family leaves that to me. I have to figure it all out this week because once I get back to work, it's Wizard of Oz casting, rehearsals, set building, and costumes. I'm seriously considering another PTR so I can get help with the planning details :lmao:

Hmmm will the PTR start before the new year?

The Wizard of Oz? You are going to be so busy!!! You should do a PTR -- I would come over and play!

I was thinking I might start the PTR before the new year, but now I am aiming for before I go back to school on Monday.

Jackie come and play on the new thread.....

Come one come all, it's started!

And your TR is already a happening place! :thumbsup2

Some how I lost your TR, glad to have found it again & have been doing a lot of catch up. I'm hooked on TRs, find a link on one & I'm off on another.
How neat to go to the GF, that is where I would most like to stay. I have loved it since it was built.
Your daughter will be so happy & I for one will enjoy reading all of the plans that will be made! :cloud9:

Welcome back!!! I love reading PTRs and TRs, too! So many fun ones on the boards!

I love your framed print! It is so cute! We were at Food and Wine in 2008. The weather was sooo nice. The Grand Floridian sounds wonderful! I would have a hard time keeping it a secret.

I would love to get back to Food and Wine again! I just wish we had more time off in the fall!

I am going to have the devil of a time keeping it a secret!

All caught up! And just in time for your last post it looks like! Sounds like you had a great trip! Congrats on your upcoming trip! Sounds like a great Birthday surprise!

We did have a great trip! I am going to have lots of fun planning this birthday trip!

I really like that print! You're right, it's a nice way to remember your trip and it's not all screaming "MICKEY". I'm looking forward to your PTR and seeing how you manage to keep a secret like that from your kids!

Come to my TR and see my tiny secret I kept from my kids. It's in the next episode!

Thanks! I will head over to your TR! I love reading about other people's surprises!

Love that print! Great choice for a souvenir.

Thank you! I truly adore it!

Oh Sachertorte! YUM! If you try it, let me know how it turns out, that brings back some really great memories for me.

Oh, do tell about your memories of Sachertorte. The recipe looks pretty straightforward -- I just need to get up the nerve to try it.

OK CP. You talked me into a TR! I can't believe I actually did it! So since you convinced me to do it, you should come on over and join in! I'm not as creative a writer as you are, but I will do my best!:) Hope you can drop by. And any other CP readers are welcomed to join in as well!

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=34802198#post34802198

Your TR is great so far! You are a natural at writing them!

Love the souvies. That poster is great! I'm so glad the two of you had such a wonderful adults only weekend!

Thank you! We did have a nice time away!

Oh you should totally take advantage of the GF dining! I was really happy with the 1900 breakfast... we had a late "brunch" it was perfect. We are booked at Narcossee's this time around... if I can spell it! HA!;) Looking forward to your PTR!!!!

I have been trying to decide if we want a before park breakfast or a late breakfast after a couple of hours at the Magic Kingdom. Decisions, decisions.

Narcoosee's looks yummy, but I don't think we are doing any two credits this time around.

Hi CP...

I know I haven't been around on one of your PTR/TR's in awhile (I think since your June 08 trip...you did go then right? :confused3) but we seem to have many of the same Diser friends and I agree that are some of the best friends I have even though we have never really met...:goodvibes

Hi, Julie!!! Thanks for coming over!

Oh, you should definitely go during the Food and Wine Festival -- fall at Disney is my favorite!

So glad you had a good time and it was a fun read and pictures to look at! Your next trip sounds great GF on a discount and for a sweet b-day surprise...princess:

I am very excited about it!

couple quick questions:

is the little gift card wrist band to pay for all the food/wine choices? How much did you budget if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, it works just like a regular Disney gift card and can be used at all the food kiosks. I think we ended up spending about $200 total on our Food and Wine stuff, but we did drink a lot which adds up quickly.

and how does the DDP play into this? (if you know), I saw the icon by some of the choices in some of your pictures. Would it be considered a snack credit only ?

Almost all of the food offerings were considered snack credits on the dining plan. We didn't do the dining plan on this trip because we knew we wanted to graze the kiosks more than sitting down and eating any Counter Service or Table Service places.

Oh and the Dis-never's Eaten at Le Cellier Club still rocks :rotfl: (from PracPerfPatricia's last TR)

:lmao: I agree, but I do hope to fix that on the July trip -- I guess I will have to resign my membership if that happens. ;)

I love the print you got also. That is so great about GF!! So Charles is glad about just 5 days huh:lmao: It looks like he really enjoyed your "Adults Only" time though. I'm sure you will all have a great time. Do you know what ADR's you want yet?

We will be there for six days instead of eight this time and Charles thinks that is a better length for a trip to Disney.

I know all of our ADRs that we want to make, but I am saving that for the PTR. :goodvibes

Hi Jackie!

Your souvenir pics are great. Good choices!

Yay for a birthday trip at the Grand Floridian! Chelsea is a lucky girl!

Hi!!! How are you feeling these days? Did you have a good Christmas? I am absolutely bubbling with excitement over Chelsea's birthday trip! :goodvibes

Yeah for the GF trip

Thanks! I was pretty pleased with that 40% pin code!

Don't you just love it when you have a trip to plan for? Even better, a surprise trip! :yay: Our trip to AKL that we just returned from was a surprise for our DH11 and the reveal was perfect. If you don't already have a plan, I can tell you what we did.

Oh, yes, please tell me about your reveal! I am always looking for ideas!

Hopefully, when rates come out for 2011 this summer, I can find us a great code for Feb. If not, maybe by then he will rethink December. ;)

I bet Christmas at AKL is just gorgeous!!! I hope you are able to go again next December!

I'm planning on reading along on your PTR. I get excited for anyone who has a trip on the horizon!

Me too! I will make sure to link the new PTR here!

This is how our surprise trip reveal went...

To help throw my DS11 off course, we started having Family Disney movie nights about 4 months before the reveal. I decorated and themed the meals to the movie and we always took pictures (this way it wouldn't look obvious when I had the camera out on the reveal night). ;)

For our reveal night dinner, our movie was Kung Fu Panda. We made homemade egg-rolls and did Chinese Take-Out. I went by the restaurant the week before and grabbed a handful of fortune cookies. I carefully opened them and extracted the fortunes with tweezers (it was like the game Operation) and then replaced the fortunes with some that I had designed. The fake fortunes read: 1) A magical journey is in your future. 2) When you wish upon a star your dreams come true. 3) A dream is a wish your heart makes. On the backs of the fortunes, I had our Lucky #'s as 12 04 2009 (this was the date that we left town).

My DH is very smart and we were certain that he would figure it out immediately, but he didn't. He caught on that they were Disney quotes on the fortunes, but he thought that it was some freaky coincidence. He said, "It's almost like they knew we were having Disney movie night!" "Did you tell them or something?" :lmao:

Anyway, the final reveal happened the next day when he got home from school. I had a big box waiting addressed to him on the front porch (return address was that of AKL). When he opened the box, up floated a huge helium Mickey balloon. Tied to the bottom was a fabulous note designed by someone on the DISign Forum. It had Mickey and the gang saying..."Guess who's going to Disney?" Then it said..."You are, Maddox!" It had the AKL logo on the background and fortunes cookies, too. It also had our travel dates. :wizard:

Believe it or not, he was still confused. :confused3 He kept saying things like: "What's happening?" "Who did this?" "Did you guys know about this?" It was hysterical. Also in the box was our trip itinerary, a countdown calendar (15 days out), and a Disney gift card.

It was the first time in my life I had ever done a big surprise, but it was VERY stressful. I was worried that someone would blow it (only grandparents, my principal and my best friend knew, but we had 2 close calls). I also didn't like having to plan, etc...while hiding back in the bedroom. Once, he almost saw my countdown ticker, but I snatched my laptop away from him like a crazy woman. I was soooo happy to finally have it out in the open. I think the headache was having to keep it a secret for so long (8 1/2 months).

Sorry if this post was too long! :rolleyes1 I can't wait to hear what you decide to do.

Hey Jackie,

you have such lovely taste...there isn't a souvenir in the bunch that I wouldn't have chosen/coveted either...:lmao:

I can't wait to read about your plans for Chelsea's 13th...:cool1:

I'm hoping to get some ideas for Em's 16th...

(I need to seriously getting thinking about it...:confused3...I have to plan DLP/Paris and as soon as we get back at the very beginning of April make ADRs... so I really need to know what i want before we go away in March...;)

I looked up Tres Leches Cake and it sounds yummy...if one wasn't doing a Disney Christmas-I think that Santa Fe would also be a lovely place to be...:goodvibes(what Mexican food did you make for before the cake....?)

:surfweb:

Oh, do tell about your memories of Sachertorte. The recipe looks pretty straightforward -- I just need to get up the nerve to try it.

Post college backpacking through Europe trip with my then boyfriend. In Vienna, went to the opera (all in German, didn't understand a word but oh that Opera House was something else) and then to the Demel's for the original Sacher Torte!

I think we may have also tried it at the Hotel Sacher but I can't recall, I know we hit Demel's more than once.

Oh it was yummy!!!!! I could go to Vienna and live on desserts. But I can still picture that Sacher Torte and almost taste it!

Sigh....

I would like to do a pumpkin custard kind of color. What color did you do your classroom?

I would love to see a photo of the cake. I might want to do one of those Mad Hatter cakes for Chelsea.

Our ADR date is January 19 -- can't wait! Thank goodness for the online ADR system -- I can make them all before leaving the house that day.

The Wizard of Oz? You are going to be so busy!!! You should do a PTR -- I would come over and play!

I was thinking I might start the PTR before the new year, but now I am aiming for before I go back to school on Monday.

Pumpkin custard sounds lovely! If you paint, you must post pictures.
My classroom is VERY bright. I used snow cone green, fairy tale blue, tangelo, and sundance. The yellow (sundance) is only one one part of one wall. On that, our librarian's son, who's an art student, did a Pippi Longstocking mural. Since our social studies theme is global communities, Scott painted Pippi visiting different sites around the globe, including the Sistine Chapel, the Sphinx, and the Sydney Opera House. I really need to take pictures.

I'll upload a pic of the cake and post it on your new PTR. It's one of those castle cakes. It was beautiful and tasted great. I've been tossing around the idea of ordering a Mad Hatter cake for my nephews since this will be a kindergarten graduation and 2nd birthday trip. Can you pick the colors used?
Whatever you order, Chelsea is going to LOVE.

January 19th is right around the corner. Can't wait to see what's on your ADR list.

The Wizard of Oz is going to wipe me out for the next few months. Trip planning will be my escape :goodvibes As for a PTR, I'm strongly leaning toward starting one.

Can't wait for your PTR to start :yay:

Love your new ticker!!!! How will you keep Chelsea from seeing it?

Hey Jackie!

Christmas was good. We were in Charleston with DH's family. I love that city!

I'm feeling pretty good, thank you for asking! Only a little more than 12 weeks left till our due date!!!

What a great reveal!!! That's too funny that DS never caught on even when opening the box! I love it!

I think I am going to find keeping the resort secret a bit stressful. I already find myself looking over my shoulder while I am on the computer hoping Chelsea doesn't spy the countdown. I can't bear changing it though since it is probably the only time I will be able to have a Grand Floridian ticker.

Hey Jackie,

you have such lovely taste...there isn't a souvenir in the bunch that I wouldn't have chosen/coveted either...:lmao:

Why, thank you! :goodvibes

I can't wait to read about your plans for Chelsea's 13th...:cool1:

I'm hoping to get some ideas for Em's 16th...

:surfweb:

It was quite good. We had burritos and enchiladas along with chips and salsa for the main meal. Yum, yum, yum!

Mmmm, I am completely smitten with desserts so that sounds lovely. I read a book set in Vienna where they ate the Sacher torte on Christmas Eve and that's what sparked my interest in it.

Pumpkin custard sounds lovely! If you paint, you must post pictures.
My classroom is VERY bright. I used snow cone green, fairy tale blue, tangelo, and sundance. The yellow (sundance) is only one one part of one wall. Whatever you order, Chelsea is going to LOVE.

From what I have seen, you can pick the colors on the Mad Hatter cake.

Did you custom order it from Pat? I have been lurking over on the Cake Chatter Thread and see her name mentioned a lot.

January 19th is right around the corner. Can't wait to see what's on your ADR list.

I can't wait to have our ADRs squared away. I always feel like the trip is more real once we have dining reservations.

The Wizard of Oz is going to wipe me out for the next few months. Trip planning will be my escape :goodvibes As for a PTR, I'm strongly leaning toward starting one.

Lean all the way into it, Jen! :rotfl:

Can't wait for your PTR to start :yay:

Love your new ticker!!!! How will you keep Chelsea from seeing it?

By a combination of stealth, cunning, and luck. ;)

Hey Jackie!

Christmas was good. We were in Charleston with DH's family. I love that city!

I'm feeling pretty good, thank you for asking! Only a little more than 12 weeks left till our due date!!!

Was it your first visit to Charleston? How I miss it especially at Christmas!

Only twelve weeks??? You'll have a new baby before you know it!

Happy New Year, Jackie!! :goodvibes

Happy New Year, Becky! What are y'all doing tonight? We are having the in-laws over for fondue and games.

I think I am going to find keeping the resort secret a bit stressful. I already find myself looking over my shoulder while I am on the computer hoping Chelsea doesn't spy the countdown. I can't bear changing it though since it is probably the only time I will be able to have a Grand Floridian ticker.

Oh I bet! I was stressing about keeping the April Cal trip a secret but now that August is out of the bag I can safely make April a full surprise as if they see anything...it's about August! Nice ticker though :)

I need you to seriously start thinking about Em's 16th, too, so I can steal some ideas from you. :lmao:

And I will steal from both of you for K's 14th!

Mmmm, I am completely smitten with desserts so that sounds lovely. I read a book set in Vienna where they ate the Sacher torte on Christmas Eve and that's what sparked my interest in it.

Ooh, that sounds lovely!

From what I have seen, you can pick the colors on the Mad Hatter cake.

that's what I've seen too, I need to relook at the cake situation since it will probably have to be at Ohana...if I do one

I can't wait to have our ADRs squared away. I always feel like the trip is more real once we have dining reservations.

me too

Lean all the way into it, Jen! :rotfl:

Ditto! And when you do put it in your siggie so I don't miss it or blatantly mention it on my PTR lol!

Happy New Years Jackie and family!
Yum, fondue!
Marc just told me about your ticker so I had to buzz over and take a look!
Love it!
Ahhhh So glamorous!
Keep Chelsea away from the computer when you are DISing or the cat is out of the bag!
