For those of you who have stayed at SOG pre-renovation, was the resort nice? Any pictures you can share? I'm trying to decide whether to go back to WDW after December 2003 (after SOG reopens) or go back before December and stay at the CR through SOG. Thanks for your help!

We've stayed in both. I'd go with CR while you have the chance just for the experience, plus its very handy to MK if thats important to you. SOG quite satisfactory, different type of experience, not as busy, definitely a good value.

We haven't stayed at the "real" SoG yet, but we are making a total of 3 trips to the CR while it's being renovated. We figure that we will never ever again get the opportunity to stay at a Disney-run deluxe resort for such an amazing price. We really, really enjoyed being there this last September.

Our family has stayed at SOG three times and love it! The difference in staying at SOG and one of the other Disney resorts has to do with the "feeling" of the place. There is a quietness to the hotel that you will not find at the others. The rooms are so spacious compared to other Disney properties (AKL was nothing compared to SOG). The bathrooms are large and roomy with everything you need (coffee pot, hair dryer). Irons and ironing boards are tucked in the closet.

The staff has always been very friendly and helpful (just like the regular Disney resorts). My daughter is now 10 and as much as she likes to "visit" the other resorts, this is the one she thinks of as "our hotel".

That said, we too are making the trip this year and staying at CR, but in 2004 we will be back "home" at SOG.

We've stayed at Shades of Green but never a monorail resort. I think that I would prefer the CR. SoG was very quiet and removed from the Disney excitement. You can take their bus, your car, or walk to the Polynesian - quite a ways - and take the monorail there. I think having the convenience of a monorail right at the resort would be a big factor for me now. Either way you go I know you'll have a great time! :)

Thanks to everyone for your replies!

KatRob, I loved your description of SOG. The "quietness" of SOG is exactly what my husband would like after a busy day in the parks or golfing. Plus, at SOG golfing is just a step away for him, which keeps him happy for awhile! We stayed at FW cabins this past April/May and Polynesian concierge last month and my DH said he liked the cabin more because it was peaceful, so I'm sure he'd like the fact that SOG is quiet and removed from the Disney excitement, as JohnTBap put it. Decisions, decisions!
