My mom is talking about springing for a family trip (my DB's family and mine) next fall :bounce:

My dad was retired military...so she is thinking about Shades of Green.

First...any pros and cons. Anyone stayed at SOG?

Secondly...we will have baby #3 by then (due next month princess: ) How are those rooms with 5? My brother also has three little ones (the youngest would be 2 1/2 next fall).

Any advice welcomed :D

We got back 3 weeks ago and we got two ajoining rooms. We also had a crib for my 5 1/2 month old grandson and it was really nice.

We was in th new section and I really recomend that except in your possible case. With my 2 1/2 year old grandaughter we went to the pool and play park everyday. It was quite a hike and I generally used the stroller to bring all our stuff with us. If I could get a room by the play park I woudl have prefered that over the new section. If I didnt get one by the play park I like where we was at.

Some big pros:

Cost. The price they give you is what you pay. No sales tax

The crib is a metal crib on wheels not a pack and play. They also gave us a little baby pack with lotions a pacifier and things like that in it. (We also brought the babys bumper pad and mobile so he would feel like its his own space and he did well)

Its close enough to walk to poly if you want to do the monorail.
But the bus ran on schedule. Every 15 minutes for MK and it was pretty reliable too. (We never rode the Bus B to the oterh parks as we drove there)

The room was Huge. 2 Very comfy queens, a couch that made into a bed, 2 sinks and it was located out side the bath/toilet area for extra room getting ready.

Free refrigerator

Parking in a Garage (Less hot when you get into it that way too and no rain to get on you when you get out of the vehicle when you return)

Negative:

No microwave. My grandon learned to drink tap water and powder milk because we couldnt heat bottles for him.

No food court. But there was a fast food type place near the pool adn a place to get pastries near the bus stop in teh orning. We did cereal and Milk most days in the room since we had a refrigerator.

I heard Bus B is harder to get around with but I have no experience to give you.

We are going to SOG for the first time in Feb, so I don't have any first hand knowledge, but did you know they have suites? I think the big suite has two bathrooms, and 3 or 4 beds. Maybe the whole family could share that. Or your dad could book a junior suite for your family.

We have been to SOG a couple times now with 3 kids. The last time they were 6, 9 and 12 - so they are even a little bigger. There is plenty of room in those rooms. The beds are queen sized and the sleeper sofa is a twin. The table and chairs makes it nice, too - more places to sit! Also the bathroom has a separate area with the sinks (I think someone already mentioned that). The counter is very long with plenty of room to put bathroom stuff. It is nice to be able to have people using the sinks and mirrors to get ready while another person is in the bathroom/shower area. We also had plenty of room to unpack all of our stuff - there are 2 dressers, a nightstand and several shelves in the closet. If you are in the old section there is a half wall separating the sitting area from the bed area - we even stored stuff up on top of the half wall!

My question

I want this trip to be great- so I was wondering if we should spend a little more and stay at the resort on wdw. Maybe to be submerged into the disney fun. I don't want to miss not being part of the disney fun

plus, what about going to the park. are the other hotel the same distance. J\\\ I was wondering if the distance would be shorter to go, if we stayed closer to the park.

GBsMom,
As far as staying on-site goes - SOG is on WDW property. It is right near the Polynesian Resort. It just isn't owned by Disney, so it does not have the "theming" that you see at Disney owned resorts. The hotel is very nice, though - the renovations have made it a lovely resort. The location is great, though. You can walk to the Polynesian and hop on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom or the TTC to other parks. Also SOG has its own busses to take you to the parks or the TTC.
For the price it is worth it, I think, although you could probably pay a little more and get all the Disney theming. If location is your concern, SOG is great!
