SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

I really hope they start construction on the Mickey pool soon! I'd love it if both pools were complete in time for our June trip. I know they are waiting on approvals.

Hope this helps! Have an absolute blast.

Thanks for all the info! I'm so excited! I have such great memories of Shades because that's where we stayed for DD's very first Disney trip. We've gone back a few times since and then stayed other places as well, but it just feels right going back to Shades now.

Ok, so I have a few questions since we have never stayed at the Shades before... Sorry if these have already been asked, I just really don't have time to read through all the pages...

Ok, if we get our hopper tickets there... We will NOT be able to get the bands or hook them to our my disney experience, right?

What is the best ways of getting to each park?

How far is the Polynesian if you walk to it for reservations?

What times do the buses run?

If we get 2 rooms, will they be together?

Sorry for so many questions, just want to make everything easier when we get there

Are the stairs right next to the elevators? DS4 and 2 are scared to death of elevators:(

We will be at SOG in 19 days!!!

There are stairs by the elevators. There are stairs in quite a few locations. Elevators can be scary. I have a very detailed pdf map that shows the locations but can't figure how to share on here. If you want to message me with your email address I can send it to you.

You only get Magic Bands if you are staying at a Disney owned and operated resort. As Shades of Green is an Army MWR activity they don't participate in Disney's the Magic Band program. The hopper tickets can be linked to a magic band if you are staying at a Disney resort and Disney has provided you a band. However, as you are staying at SOG your park ticket can be used to secure Fastpass + ride reservations at any park when you get to the park.

The best way to get to the parks from SOG is to use their free shuttle bus service. It will get you to all the parks, water parks and Downtown Disney.

It's about a 10 minute walk to the Polynesian.

The buses start 30 minutes prior to the park it services opening time and run 1 hour after park closing.

You can request rooms close together or connecting rooms by calling reservations. However this is a request and they try to honor it if the resort is not too busy and there is space to accomdate your request.

Absolutely love your trip reports! pixiedust:

Has anyone rented an ECV through one of the Disney-preferred companies? I will be renting one for the week for my mother and wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions as to which company would be best. As of now, I am leaning towards Best Price Mobility...

Getting excited...:hyper:
We use Apple Scooters for my Mom when we come to Orlando. You can make your reservations online, choose the type of ECV ( 3 wheel/4 wheel, etc) and they deliver to any hotel in the Orlando area. They will have the scooter waiting on you at the front desk or concierge area and you just pick it up! You leave the scooter at the hotel as well. Very easy and nice quality scooters. The scooters we rented also broke down easily so they were easy to load in and out of the car. You would just take the battery into the room at night to charge for the next day. Hope this helps!

Best Price Mobility provides this service too and works well with Shades of Green.

I leave for SOG in 5 days!!!

I leave in 15 days... Yay for us.. Can't wait to see the new additions to Shades but worried about the the changes to the FP's.... So loved it when we could get there early and get as many FP's as we could before we left in the afternoon..

Be there a week from Sunday! :cool1:

With a WDW virgin in tow! Can't wait to show her all things Disney and show her what has made me such a Disney geek. :lmao:

I've been to SOG twice before (2011 & 2013), both times in February. The "heated" pools felt quite chilly . Can anyone comment on the warmth of the new pool?

We were there in mid-December and it was what I would call "very warm". There were usually kids in the pool until closing at 10PM. I always thought both of the pools were heated, but after this visit, most guests said there was a world of difference in temperature between the mill pond or "Mickey" pool and the Magnolia pool. The hot tub thankfully continues to be about 105º. The only downside is that it now closes at 10PM, and there is no way around that. The pool /hot tub area is now fenced, and the gates are locked at 10PM. The good news for folks with small children is that the pool now has lifeguards.

We were there in December also. I felt that both pools were fairly warm. I asked one of the lifeguards at the Magnolia Pool if the "Mickey Pool" would also have lifeguards once it had been resurfaced and had the slide added. He told me that the Mickey Pool would also have lifeguards when it was completed. I wonder if that pool will also close at 10:00pm?

The hotel says both pools are heated to 80 degrees

Rolling in on the 15th! Hopefully first floor, new wing. Weather better cooperate.

Last time we were there the pool heater or whatever they call it wasn't working. Hopefully next week it will be.
