SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

Ok my family of 6 is going and getting the 4 day promotional tickets at SOG. And I know that in the past and now that we all have to be there with my dad (the military sponsor) at the guest relations office of one of the parks to get our tickets activated. So now my question is this? When those tickets are activated, is that when you lose a day or do you lose a day when you put them through the machine at a theme park to enter the park? (I hope that makes sense).

I ask this because we are going to be there 4 and a half days and my sister is thinking of going to a park on the half day (our arrival day), but the rest of us dont want to go to parks til the first FULL day which would give us 4 FULL days on the tickets. So if my sister goes on the half day, is she the only one that loses a day on the ticket, or does it affect ALL of our tickets?

Thanks in Advance! :flower3:

Your tickets are not actually activated till you go through a turnstile at one of the parks. Your sisters ticket will be the only one affected if she goes a half day. (If you have a half day then I would go to DTD..It really is a great place to go and free.):thumbsup2

Hi, sorry for asking such a silly question, but I can't seem to find the answer here so far.

Can someone please tell me the current prices for the laundry facilities?

Thanks so much! looking forward to my stay in one month! :goodvibes

They were $1.00 a load for washer and the same for dryer. I buy the Purex 3 in 1 laundry sheets at Wal Mart and bring those. They are cheaper than buying detergent at Shades and they are flat so they don't take up any room in your suitcase..

Hi! We just got our form through email to order our park passes. From what I understand, they will be available upon check in. I believe we have to go to activate them at guest services at one of the parks or downtown disney, is that right? Also, can we activate them the day BEFORE we are going to go the parks so that we don't have to waste time when we are trying to make rope drop? Thanks for any advice you may have!

Your tickets will be available at check in.. I had to ask for them as they did not keep them at the front desk. We activated ours at DTD this past April as they have a guest relations near Ghiradellis. Quite honestly, It only has ever taken us less than 5 minutes to activate them at any park and we have activated them at all the parks except DHS.. I would suggest getting to the park 10 minutes earlier than you had planned and you should be fine. :)

Yeah that's what we were all planning to do was go to DTD with exception of the sister that wants to hit a theme park. Thank you for your reply!! :worship:

Make sure you have some crisp dollar bills too..You need to get tokens in the laundry room for the machines and sometimes I would have to put the same dollar in 10 times before it would work..(Now I just bring an envelope of crisp ones.) :)

Does anyone know if there is an actual kiddie pool at SOG? Looking for my two non-swimming little ones to get some water fun!

Also, we will have a car for one day in which we will be driving to hollywood studios. They open at 9 that day. Can anyone give me an idea of what time we should leave SOG to get there, park and be in position for rope drop?

thanks again for all your help!

I'm pretty sure they had a kiddie pool when we were there, or that the Mickey Pool was really shallow.

I would plan on leaving about 7:30, which would get you there just before 8 by the time you park and gather your belongings, stroller, etc. Then you still have to get through bag check and ticket stile after that, so you'll be in line by 8:15 or 8:30 for RD.

Yes there is a kiddie pool plus 2 bigger pools (one shaped as Mickey's head) all are heated.

I have a car question, having never rented a car at WDW before (and specifcially never at SOG)

So these are my questions (thanks in advance to anyone who can answer)

1) parking rates at SOG? I seem to remember someone said they are no longer charging a daily rate. Yes/no?

2) You must pay to park at the parks - is this right? They're no longer letting SOG guests park free?

3) Do you pay to park at water parks?

4) How about DTD? Cost to park there?

5) How to we park at places like Animal Kingdom Lodge or Boardwalk for dinner? AKL we'll have ADRs but at Boardwalk we will not. Does it matter? Is there a cost?

Thanks again. My trip is getting closer and closer and almost happily we're having nasty disgusting heat and humidity up here in the northeast. By the time we hit Disney next month we'll be fully used to 90+ degree days and 70% humidity. LOL.

Some of these I can answer for you.

You do have to pay to park at the 4 major parks (MK, EP, DHS, AK) but not at the waterparks or DTD. There is a sort of round about area where you can get to the TTC at MK and avoid the ticket booths, but we just waled to the Poly the days we went to the MK.

For AKL and BWI, you can just tell the gate attendant that you are there for dining purposes and they may give you a pass to put in the vehicle window, that gives you 3 hours to park there, but that is hit or miss. It's free for regular parking. We use valet parking, it's so much easier, but I can't remember how much it is, it's free if you have a handicap placard.

Thanks Suzanne. :)

We'll probably not need to drive to MK since we're right there anyway, but I was thinking of possibly driving to AK or HS as we tend to do short park days there and the timing of buses can be a challenge and we only have a few days this trip so we're trying to maximize what we can.

The same with the water parks and DTD. Sometimes it just seems such a hassle to get a bus if you're there at the wrong time and you really just want to leave...now. LOL. And we have a really early arrival and a really late departure so I think it will just easier to have a car this time so that we can take advantage of that time without being tied to a random schedule based on the car service.

So thanks!

I know exactly what you mean. We do this sometimes, too, even from the Disney resorts. Be cautious of DTD though, it gets really busy in the evening and parking can be hard to find.

Just a suggestion.

AK & HS run busses to the TTC and they run more often than the SOG bus. We've used those to our advantage rather than wait around. HS bus is right next to SOG and AK is a couple behind at the TTC.

yes. That's a good point (and we've done the same).

About to lose my mind with excitement....four more sleeps and we are on the road!!! Hoping to arrive at SOG by about 2ish Sunday afternoon.

Quick question...if my dad (military retiree, ressies in his name) isn't there when we arrive, can we even park in the garage or use the pool? I'm betting no, so I'm wondering if we need to adjust our departure time. It's pretty fluid right now, as my parents will be in Gainesville GA and leaving there "somewhere around 7-8am Sunday" to head for Orlando, so I'm guessing they won't arrive until 3ish? We were hoping to arrive about 2, I know check in isn't until 3 but that would give us a bit of relaxing time by the pool first...but if they won't let us even use the pool or anything, then we may leave later Saturday night. After driving all night, I know DH would NOT be happy to sit in that van one more minute longer than he needs to.

Since you are staying there, I wouldn't think it would be a problem to go park and sit in the lobby. I don't know about checking in though. We were just going over htere one time to pick up tickets and they let us in, no problem.
