SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

I know there are areas within the resort where the cell signal/Wi-Fi are not that great. Has anyone had success in getting a ROTR boarding group from your room? We will be there in July, and I was wondering if I would need to attempt this from the lobby, or outside. We were also planning on walking over to the Poly to catch an earlier bus to DHS, has this worked out for anyone?
Oh gosh, I'd forgotten about that! I'm interested in hearing experiences too. IIRC, it's a little better service in Magnolia wing.

Our DHS day is one we are planning to drive, so no experience using the Shades bus. My concern was they'll go to AK first, then DHS like they have in the past (but this may have changed since the pandemic/reopening). Does anyone have any recent experience?

I was able to get a boarding group the second time I tried from our room. I stood near our balcony door on the second attempt and got one.

From what I can see on the SOG bus schedule, the first bus to DHS departs 45 minutes prior to park opening, which IMHO is not early enough. Not to mention the first bus could fill up, and we could possibly have to wait for another bus. That said, I think we may stand a better chance over at the Po!y. Thought about driving, but from what I understand you can no longer park until a designated time. I have seen photos of long lines of cars waiting to get into the lot. I was also a bit concerned with a very long walk from the parking lot if the trams are not running. I know I'm probably overthinking this.

Last trip I got 3/3 boarding groups under #20 from the room. Room was in wing by garage.

we drove every day to the parks when we were there in February. We got to the parking lots right around an hour before rope drop. A line does form at the parking booths but it moves quickly. If you are there that early you’ll get a close parking spot generally so the walk isn’t bad. Just don’t get there too early. We had a couple of instances where they made us leave and circle back around until it was 1 hour before.

Yay! Were you in the Palm or Magnolia wing?

yeah, 45 minutes wouldn't be early enough for me either! :).

In February we stayed off-site and drove to both MK and DHS. DHS let us line up just a couple of minutes before exactly one hour before opening (something like 7:57 for a 9 a.m.) b/c at 7:50 they made us circle. Tollbooth opened at 8:15 (so would be faster than the Shades bus?) Being that early, we didn't have a far walk, but they were directing cars to every other space then.

It's a lot easier to time MK than DHS because they simply just let you line up early at the toll booth and both days started letting cars through exactly one hour before opening. I think next month we'll drive to DHS but probably walk to Poly or take the SOG bus to AK and MK. If not too hot, maybe even walk to MK.

Good to know, thank you so much!

I think it may be faster than SOG bus, it would probably be leaving the resort at 8:15.
I have fingers crossed that the Poly's monorail station will be completed by mid July, it would make it so much easier. :)

Is there a reason none of the bigger rooms are available? I keep checking 2/1-2/11/2022 for their larger rooms with kitchens, and they're never available. I checked my actual dates and a bunch of random dates around that time and I'm just not finding anything. Anyone know why that is? I'll have a party of 6, definitely going to need a kitchen for all these people or I'm going to lose my mind.

The only time I've ever seen them available has been during the pandemic when military restrictions or no one was traveling. From what I understand, there are very few of them.

I don't know, but I'd speculate people probably book them the day they become available (1 year out).

Try calling them. From my own expierience, there have been times when I have not found rooms online, but they had something available when I called. There may also be an event planned for some of those dates so they are booked, but I would certainly give them a call.

Just saw on another thread people staying at Disney-owned resorts mentioned an email. Our SOG reservation is in DH's name and he did not get one. I also have a 2-day Coronado stay after we leave Shades in my name and I didn't get an email either.

I wonder if they are going to offer Boo Bash Tickets at SOG? We got our Halloween party tickets in 2019 from them.

I was on chat with WDW this morning and they said SoG was one of the select resorts.

I don't know where my brain is today, we probably wouldn't get an email anyway :). We were thinking of booking a long weekend in the fall but never did it LOL. My reservation is before the Boo Bash would start!

I called Shades and they said they weren't selling them, so I called WDW back. It turns out, Shades WILL be selling them, WDW just hasn't sent the info over since it was just announced today. They should be on sale there June 8th.
