SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

We have reservations for our first stay there too! Reviews are outstanding, even on Trip Advisor. We've done Disney moderates for 6 trips and it's time to take the plunge and give SOG a try. We are going at a very expensive time-peak rates at Disney resorts so I think this will be great-at least I hope so!!!
Exciting!!

We have also done moderate and deluxe. Very excited about prices. We are going end of March high peak time also when will you be going?

I think you will be very pleasantly surprised. After staying several trips at FQ and then one at an AKL 1br... I can honestly say that our most recent trip staying at SoG was the best... The rooms - as far as set up, are very much "poly like" - the rooms were built with the same "build off site and slide the box/room into place" construction as the Poly and the Contemporary... And even though these rooms are bigger than either of those resorts - it still has the "feel" to it. We stayed there once in 2008, before I started doing my girls trips and staying at WDW resorts... and I honestly had forgotten how big the rooms are, and how easy and convenient it is to get around WDW with SoG transportation combined with Disney transportation... We are all so fortunate to have this resort available to us... While Disney prices keep going up - SoG is the only reason that my family and I can still enjoy our trips and actually go. I hope you all love it as much as we do! :lovestruc

Thanks for the info:thanks: I am very excited. I actually just got done reading your trip report. Looks like you guys had a blast!

Has anyone seen any discounts for January? Usually by now they have something.

On their main page - there is a discount for the end of Jan - not sure when you are going. I check the discounts almost daily - as they are always changing. Through the months, I was able to apply several discounts to my upcoming trip in October, and I've managed to get discounts on every night of our stay except for 2 nights. I think, at this time, I have 3 different codes applied to my reservation... So, I'd keep checking and call to apply the ones that overlap your dates, and keep your fingers crossed that more discounts will come out. :)

I'm so glad you posted this! I didn't know they did that, as this is our first time staying at SOG. I'm still learning all I can about it. Gosh I think the rates are fantastic just as they are, but I will definitely be on the look out now:rotfl:More money for Mickey:smickey: Thanks again, I love Disboards you can learn so much from them.

got a question, the sunrise package, is that for only 2 adults or for everyone in the room. Im guessing 2 adults but wanna make sure, kind of a buy one get one deal.

I was just able to have a discount applied for 2 nights of our stay-it saved about $11 off the room for 2 nights but we get breakfast buffet for free 2 mornings! The girl on the phone said to keep checking as the discounts do change and come and go and if I see others I can call. I'm glad you posted this because I didn't realize they could apply more than one discount to a stay so this is great news!

I also really enjoyed your trip report and especially appreciated all the different ways to get from SOG to parks and back again! I am wondering if after Wishes it would make sense to walk to the Contemporary and then monorail to TTC and grab SOG bus back to avoid monorail and ferry crowds at MK.

Awesome! I am glad I could help! I know - when I went with my dd this last January - I believe I snagged a $69/night room rate (gosh, it's been so long, it could have been $79/night) - regardless - it was fantastic... For 10 nights... It's so awesome. I agree- the rates are great as they are, but to get a discount on top - it's just icing on the cake. enjoy your first stay there- it's remarkable. :)

Yay - I am glad you were able to get a discount - I am all about doing Disney as affordable as possible... Cheaper rates means more trips later. ::yes::

I am glad you enjoyed my TR - I am excited to get started on writing my next one! I love writing them and I love sharing our trips with all my Dis friends - it makes the trips last longer for me. :lovestruc

Hmmm... :scratchin Excellent question - it's entirely possible that might be the best way to go??? I am always one who likes to sneak out of the park before Wishes - I can't stand those crowds... Maybe this time I will stick it out and see how it goes? I will say - that SoG bus at the TTC is a godsend... There is nothing better than knowing that one comes exactly every 20 minutes, so you'll never have to wait longer than that. And what's better than dropping you right at the doors to the resort? LOL So, no long walk on that end either. ::yes::

Enjoy your trip!

$79 a night?!?! WOW!!!! We pay top tier so $145 for us but still seems like a great value in comparison to Disney resorts plus NO TAX! Maybe, just maybe another discount for my other dates will come out!

I believe so... Otherwise you can have your boarding pass emailed/texted to you & they'll just scan your phone. Love flying SW! :)

Always check back 30 days prior to when you want to go. That is when people have to cancel by in order to not lose a deposit. Also I have found that they do reserve some rooms (especially the suites) for last minute reservations.
The only time I have not gotten a room 30 days prior was during the Invicutus Games this past May. I had a 5 night stay prior to the games starting and was never able to extend another night. I didn't even realize what a big deal the security was for all that.

Got another question:sunny: my Dad is sponsoring our rooms at SOG. Will we have issues getting onto SOG property or to ride SOG busses if he is not with us? After we check in of course. THANK you

Once you are all checked in, you're fine. You'll have your Shades of Green room keys and KTTW cards once you get to the parks. You won't need him to ride the buses or get in the security gate at the resort once checked in. He will need to be with you for getting your park tickets, you have to do that at Guest Relations to validate your tickets. You need ID for that as well.

We will be at SOG 9/21-9/30 on a special that includes bkfst each day. My DD isn't a morning person--so she likes to sleep until the last minute to have time to shower and dress. I'm not sure if we will get coupons for bkfst or something else--but will I be allowed to use her meal ? voucher to bring a bagel or something back to the room for her?

Still hoping for info.
