SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

We are exploring the possibility of taking the shuttle service from SOG to Universal, and I'm looking for feedback.
Just wondering if it was a positive experience, and if you arrived at Universal prior to park opening.

If it's worth $90-$100 (for 5) not to drive to Universal, consider Orlando Shuttle Service (I have not used them but am considering them for airport transportation later this year). On the Mears Transportation site, their taxi service fare estimator one way from Magic Kingdom to Universal is $39.82.

Thanks! Yes it may very well be worth it to avoid the drive on I4 in commuter traffic.

Hi all, we are booked here for spring 2017 for our first time at this resort! We usually stay at a Disney moderate but we are looking forward to mixing it up a bit! Shades of Green looks beautiful and peaceful and very convenient to the Poly. The new pools and all the new renovations throughout look to be awesome and you can't beat the price for what you get. Would love to see any pictures or trip reports from those who have stayed at SOG. Any insider tips welcome as well:)

SOG is a beautiful, and peaceful resort. It has it's own little friendly vibe going on; like coming back home after a long day at the parks.
Compared to Disney moderates, the rooms and bathrooms are quite large, both pools are wonderful, and each room has a balcony (I love a balcony).
You just can't beat the location. Yes, it is very convenient to the Poly, and Disney transportation, about a 15 minute walk...but if you want to save your feet for the parks, you can ask bell services for a ride on the 'Shady Shuttle' to the end of the driveway. We love Kona Cafe and Trader Sams at the Poly. Having a Starbucks in the SOG lobby is wonderful, and they
also sell some very tasty ice cream at this location.
Our last stay was April 2015, and we are very excited to return to SOG in less than 2 weeks.
You will love it, have a fabulous time!

Totally agree! Probably the biggest complaint is the "lack of Disney feel" and honestly it is welcome and appreciated after at least 12 straight hours of total Disney immersion . By Disney standards SoG is a small resort so I would also ignore the comments about the size or distance to the rooms from the lobby. Amazing resort! We have stayed in the first room in the Palm wing (2101), I worried about noise and was pleasantly surprised! Lobby level Palm wing is our favorite!

capegirl and WDW 3, THANK YOU so much for your comments! I have heard and read so many wonderful things about Shades of Green. I don't think the moderates scream Disney other than a hidden mickey here or there and buses that say Disney. And I agree, a nice break from it all, a vacation within a vacation, sounds good to me! Starbucks in the lobby will be a welcome change from the nasty Disney coffee. We like the idea of a calmer resort and yes, will ignore the comments about distances. Also super psyched to have a balcony and get some fresh air.

We will be staying at Shades of Green in 10 days. Has anyone stayed since Evergreen's refurbishment ended and have any information on the results/menu? Thanks.

We'll be checking in this weekend, and we may try out new the Evergreens this Sunday.
The menu is up on the SOG website, but I have not come across any reviews since they reopened.

I did a trip report for our January 2016 trip where we stayed at SoG for 9 days... lots of great info in my TR, well, I think so anyways. Lol. Link is in my siggy. :)

Looking forward to another 9 days at SoG in October! You'll love it!

For those who are wondering about the 'new' Evergreens pub... we are at SOG right now, so I thought I would share my first impression.
The bartender takes your order, and you can can eat in, or get your food to go. We tried the tower of onion rings, buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese dressing, burger, and chicken caesaer salad, and everything was very good. I also tried a frozen pina colada daiquiri with whipped cream and a cherry on top, and it was an excellent drink. The menu is small, but the prices were quite reasonable. They also have pizza, which we will try this week, and a kids menu. Evergreens is great if you want a quick bite, and a good drink.

THANK YOU!!!! Your trip report is outstanding! And very helpful! I hope you do another in October!

Question... for those of you who have eaten at the new Evergreens... can you still order inside and eat out by the pool? I know that used to be an option, just wondering if it still is... thanks! :)

I'm packing and I'm very picky about coffee so my own is coming with me. What type of coffee maker is in the room?

Yes, you can! They have a take out window.
We are at SOG now, and we had pizza by the Mickey pool yesterday. The pizza was just okay, nothing special, but we really enjoyed all of the other food on the menu at Evergreens.

Sooo excited to have Evergreens back! I've been waiting (not so patiently) for 8 years! It was such a nice relaxing restaurant once upon a time, hoping it's truly back to it's former glory.

I have a ticket question. I'm going to be there for a quick trip with a couple friends - staying off site, not at SOG. I know that I can still purchase tickets there, but if I want to take my friends to a water park for the day, can I buy tickets for myself and my friends at SOG or can the tickets only be used by military? I know they can not buy their own tickets there if they are not guests of SOG - just wondering if I can buy them for us all.

Military salute no regular tickets yes or at least that's what was explained to me

The qualified military member (or spouse) can purchase Salute tickets, waterpark tickets, Universal, Seaworld tickets etc--for themselves and up to 5 others in their party. You don't have to be staying at SOG to purchase them. I'm not sure if this is what you are asking.
