SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

Thanks for your input. This is exactly what I suspected. We only have one day at Universal, so we'll need to be at the gate for RD. The only free day we have is a Monday, so we were trying to avoid driving in the height of the Orlando commuter traffic. Oh well.

We used the shuttle and were able to schedule when we left and we did arrive before Universal opened . Had breakfast at City Walk while we waited. We called when we wanted to be picked up. This was a few years ago.

Thanks. This would be perfect, but something tells me they may do one pick up /drop off, but I will definitely have to look into it. Both Universal parks will open at 8am in July, so It would be nice if we could head out by at least 7 am.

We are exploring the possibility of taking the shuttle service from SOG to Universal, and I'm looking for feedback.
Just wondering if it was a positive experience, and if you arrived at Universal prior to park opening.

We went in December and used Uber to go back and forth. You'll need to walk down to the guard shack to get picked up in the morning. We walked down and made the request about 1/2 way down. The longest we waited was 5 minutes. It was easy to use and not at all expensive. We'll be using Uber again when we go back this December.

Thanks for the tip! I wondered if Uber would be allowed on SOG property. We may have to give this a try!

I'm arriving at SOG about 2pm and check in isn't until 3. Is there anything we can do until our room is ready? THNX

If you don't want to wander too far from the lobby, you can grab something from Starbucks. They also sell ice cream at this location, and it's very good; we usually enjoy our treats sitting out on the back deck that overlooks the courtyard. You can also do a little shopping at the AAFES store, or you could check out the pools. The last time we arrived early we walked over to the Poly for some dole whips.

THNX can you use the pool before 3?

Our experience is that our room has been ready as early as 11 am about 75% of the time. Otherwise, you can use all the facilities even before your room is ready. They will give you info on everything and you have full use of the facilities. We've stayed at least 6 times over the last 18 years and have left and used WDW and SOG transportation to grab lunch or shop or tour WDW resorts.

We're staying in December and haven't stayed at Shades in well over 15yrs. How do the couches sleep? Does the golf cart that will take you to the end of the driveway run often? Any tips for good room? Anybody have experience being able to see fireworks from a certain room?

We usually arrive around 12:30 and our room has been available about half of the time. If it's not ready, we change our clothes in the restroom, check our bags with the bellman and take off for lunch in a park. We pick up our room keys and luggage when it's time for bed

Wow! I guess I have been in the minority with really bad luck! I have never had a room ready early...even the time I had to sit in the lobby for hours with my 3 year old DD running 103 fever. I wonder if it's because I always go in the summer when it's busy.

Anyone stayed in the poolside rooms? Would you recommend them? Are they noisy? Is it nicer/better to get a room in the Palms section? We'll have a 12 yr. old and 4 yr. old, and will be at the pool A LOT, so I was leaning toward getting a poolside room... but those renovated Palm rooms look so NICE.... I'm struggling... Is it a terribly long walk from the Palm rooms to the main pool?

We stayed in a Palm room at the end of May, if we went through the lobby and Magnolia wing it was a long walk to the pool, but by going outside it cut off a lot of the distance. I move really slow and it didn't even take 5 minutes to get to the pool outside, it took longer going through the building (but we did get lost, so that added to the time going the interior route

We are staying at SOG in November. Some of our extended family will be staying at the Marriott timeshare. I'd like to invite them to come to SOG on our non-park day to have lunch & swim. Is this allowed? Is there any visitor parking at SOG?

Finally....just got the famous ticket email from Shades, and faxed our order today! Almost time to book our FPs, and I have fingers crossed that we can get FEA at the 30 day mark.

When does this usually arrive? We aren't going until Sept but I'd love to know when to expect it

You should receive an email from SOG approximately 45 days prior to check in. The turn around time is pretty quick, once they receive your information. I faxed the ticket order form to them, and the following day they called me to confirm the order.
