My DD has albinism so standing in the sun for the full parade viewing is not the best idea. Does anyone know if there are some good shaded viewing spots?

Thanks

I had noticed that across from Crystal Place towards main street and to the left there was a building which blocked the afternoon sun. I wish I could describe it better, check with a CM. :cool1:

At MGM, there are some trees that give a little shade on that parade route. We were not able to find any shade for the AK parade though.

The maps at the parks have the parade route outlined on them - near parade time, (like an hour or two before?) you might be able to walk the route to find a shady spot. Just keep your eye on the direction the sun is traveling in the sky to make sure the shade will stll be there a few hours later! We had a shady spot staked out one afternoon, but by parade time it wasn't shady anymore.

How about bringing a shade umbrella with you? Or does it need to be cool too? Maybe you could stand near the entrance to one of the many shops along the parade route and catch some of the wonderful gusts of AC that burst out when the doors open? We love getting a spot in front of a store!

I use Tour Guide Mike touring plans and he points out what spots are the most shady and least crowded. I actually avoided the parades and fireworks until I started using his advice cause it was always such a hassle - LOL!

Just noting that in case you are also in the market for a good touring plan site ;)

I'd recommend doing looking around for a shady spot too. If you have a day when you are in the park at that time and are not planning on going to the parade, that would give you the best idea. The position of the sun at different times of year might change exactly which spots are in/out of the sun at that time.

I don't think you would be allowed to use a shade umbrella during the parade, but it would be a good idea in the parks in general.
This thread about staying out of the sun and might be helpful. It includes some links to clothing that is protective against the sun (you may already know all this, but more information is always useful).

I also wanted to add that if walking around the parks is also going to be too much sun, try the route throught the stores - the ones along Main Street at MK connect a lot in between, especially on the Emporium side. We also like walking through the shaded areas beteen Innoventions at EPCOT, but it was hard to find a shady route through World Showcase. MGM shop areas also connected in some areas. The air conditioning is also very, very nice, especially when we go in August.

Actually, we go in August because of my need to stay out of the sun. The parks are open well into the night, and we take a long break during the afternoon to avoid the heat and sun. Also, it rains a lot in August (those great afternoon thunderstorms), which blocks some of the sun (not all of it though - I still gob myself up with SPF45 sunscreen)
