Sex Offenders Living in Hotels

I understand that but the OP said she doesn't want to frequent a hotel that houses them.. I'm just wondering if that would be all hotels in a sense. Since if they go on vacation they could be next to her room and she'd have no way to know.. if this isn't making sense I'm sorry. I had a very long sleepless night :rotfl:

No, you are making sense, it was me who was confused :)
I wonder if the hotels are required by law to notify the guests if any registered sex live there? I think the hotels that do this upstate require a permit from the town which would be public record so an individual could check themself and call the hotel directly.

Of course they could, but a hotel that knowingly houses them and doesn't disclose it to the guests, no thanks.

Unfortunately, the sex offender lists are so large in many states and cover so many people they are rather useless.

What we need to know are where the sexual PREDATORS are, not where the guy is who slept with a 15 year old when he was 16 and got branded for life.

That's what I was thinking -- you need to define sex offender that you are looking up. I have no idea if the laws have been changed yet but sex offender has a VERY broad net and unless they have narrowed it.

I just keep thinking back to my teen days and YIKES.

Thanks for posting about the hotels, I didn't realize it but it's good to know some actually house them. I am always cautious anyway because you never know who is in the hotel with you but them being so familiar makes it more scary I think.

As for people living in the house, I had my own bad experience as a kid so I always speak with all parents myself, tell them who lives in my house then ask who will be in the house with my kids. If there are any older siblings in the house I do not allow sleepovers and tend to do more visits at my house and here's why. When I was about 14 I went to sleepover a DF's house. I knew this girl since I was 10 mind you, but was really growing to be more... how can I say it delicately... feminine. So anyway, I sleep over and while I'm there her 24 year old ENGAGED older brother decides to hit on me. My DF made herself scarce and I found myself alone downstairs in the kitchen with someone who plainly had designs on me. I was too young to really get what he was up to but I could sense trouble because he wasn't talking to me like I was a kid. He was asking if I wanted to go see a movie, if I liked Chinese food, did I have a boyfriend, what my curfew was, did my parents work... all sorts of weird stuff. Well, luckily the Mom came up from the laundry and I took off for my friends room and didn't step out of it until it was time to go home the next day. I never went back and I never told anyone about it either... it was one of those things where I knew but didn't have proof so I never spoke up. :sad2: Now I wonder how many of my friends other friends had the same thing happen to them? I know this guy was never convicted of anything because I would have heard about it. Also, after this night there were a few times when my DF would call me then hand the phone over to her brother... VERY CREEPY. Now she was the same age as me so she probably had no idea what he was up to... or maybe she did, she had a huge crush on one of her brothers friends and I often wonder if maybe it was more than that.

Personally, I have too many stories like this of my own and from friends to count. Because of them I tell my kids #1, that if they feel funny to listen to that feeling, and #2, I will always believe them no matter who it is. Most people are fine but some are just so twisted

This happened to me with a bday party. DD goes to school with a girl "Mary", all socialize in the same group. Mom told me stepdad & little brother were spending the night somewhere else, didn't think nothing of it with a house full of girls. Well, Mary spends the night with my dd a lot, luckily I didn't send dd there b/c they smoke in the house and dd didn't like it there. Anyways, a teacher friend advised me to lookup a certain location on watchdog when she noticed my dd was hanging out with Mary a lot. Her stepdad is a child sex offender and I wasn't told about it and didn't even think to check out my kids friends parents. DD gets invited to another bday sleepover and I come up with a lame excuse and finally got the guts to bring it up to other girls moms. Turns out we all found out about it at various times and didn't know how to address it. One mom said the year before my dd became friends with Mary, they send out invitations for the whole class to come to a costume Halloween party at their house. Scary....
