~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
Our vacation cabin is actually in Lovell,Maine (next town over from Fryeburg)so we never go past North Conway when we go up there.:lmao: We might go to Santa's Village though, depending how we feel:santa:
I have been a few times but I really don't get the attraction:rolleyes1 But I think it had to do with all the hype when my mom first bought the house. Everyone kept talking about the "Fair" and how great it was I just think I was expecting more.:confused3 Have you been before?
We have good friends in Fryeburg. The Fair doesn't compare to Disney does it.:rotfl: I've never been to Santa's Village-only StoryLand about 15 years ago.
I just had to hop on here and post outfit #49... Jasmine.
th_aIMG_1893.jpg
Love it! Every outfit amazes me with how perfectly you capture that character!
Awesome that the military dad is staying home - us girls need a trip of our own once in a while. I've always wanted to do a Disney cruise - but man, they are expensive... I would have to sew non-stop for a year just to pay for it. The girls really want to stay at the Poly for sure, and that's almost as expensive as a cruise... I sure hope they like POFQ - it will save me a lot of $$ if we can just keep staying there. LOL
Thank you... I know - I just hate to take a whole day off. But we never have, and we just come home exhausted. Besides, I'd really like to check out DTD - and the pools look like a lot of fun too. I'll probably get anxious and want to go into a park... we could always add another extra day to our passes and sneak into a park in the evening to take on the show or fireworks at one of the parks???
DH update: He did go back to work this morning. He said his back has loosened up (from the meds, I am sure) but he still has a lot of pain. I hope he takes it easy - like he said he would - and doesn't make the situation worse.
On to outfit #48 today, after I get the girls off to school.
Also, I woke up with an idea of what I want to make the girls and I for our trip. Of course, it will have to wait until I finish all these outfits, but my best ideas come to me when I am laying in bed trying to fall back to sleep... and if they are really good ideas - I can't fall back to sleep because I am so excited - which is why I am up much earlier than normal this morning. Hopefully, I can eek out enough time that I can get the girls' made in time for Christmas. :rolleyes1
D~
I'm sure your girls will love POFQ! We take a family trip once a year and that is more than enough for DH but not nearly enough for me so I take the kids one at a time too-not all 3 on one on one trips every year. Those family trips are nice but the one on one trips are really very special. Your trip with your girls will be very special!
You can easily upgrade your tickets if you decide to go to a park that night.
:wizard:Hope DH continues to see improvement and takes it easy!
Can't wait to see what is next and what you create for your girls and yourself!
Good job with jasmin. You are moving along well.
Just wanted to chime in about the dining plan. We have done it every trip since it has been available. We love it, and are also big eaters. I never understand how people can share meals, they just aren't big enough for my family to share. Although, I can see a family of 5 ordering 4 combos at pizza planet and sharing that, as you get a fairly large size individual pizza and a large salad and a beverage for each combo.
I will gladly answer any questions also, as I have dined AT all of the places you are trying to get ADR I think.
I totally love the Jasmine outfit. Great job.
THank you Chiara! :lovestruc
Maybe Disney just expects you to send them $20 every time you sell an outfit :confused3
LOL I called them today, and the CM I talked to said that frequently happens on th website - she said I chould just call in, I'd be better off. So, that's what I will do.
I love jasmine :lovestruc How did you find such a perfect color fabric?!
Thanks - I have no idea... I just eyeball it. :confused3
I think you are selling outfits faster than you can make them.
Oh, and I LOVE all the photos you posted from your earlier family vacations! They are awesome!
Thanks. :lovestruc
so cute! love the details!
happy to hear your DH is feeling better, hope he takes it easy!
Yes, he's getting there - he's still pretty groggy from the meds though.
we are planning a down day too! only buying 6 days of tickets for our 8 days, since we are doing MNSSHP will stay to POFQ that day to swim, laundry, hang out until 4pm then head to MK to party :banana:and then pick another day to resort hop/DTD. buy not buying tickets for each day will force you to take it easy.
I know, but it's so easy to say to yourself... for only $x - I can get another day in the parks - since it gets cheaper the more you go. I have to not tell myself that.
Love it! Every outfit amazes me with how perfectly you capture that character!
Thank you. :lovestruc
I know, it's so easy to do that...
I hope he does too.
Well, I hope the next one turns out better than this one. Again, it looked better in my head than what it turned out as. :confused3
Good job with jasmin. You are moving along well.
I am just trying to stay caught up. I only have one day off of work next week - so if I don't make up for it this week, I won't be able to stay caught up. :rolleyes1
My only concern... OK - well I have a few of them... So, I go to a CS place - order our meal - and give them my KTTW card? And that's it? Do we have to order dessert at the same time as our meal, or do we go back later to get it? I guess we'd have to order it with our meal, since it's not seperated out on the KTTW card???
I am still concerned that we won't have enough food. Both girls and I are both 3 meals a day type people + snacks... I am pretty sure I will have to do an OOP meal a couple of times.
OK - then for buffets or TS meals... again, just hand over my KTTW card and we are good?
I could use a Magical Express review please.... I've never done it before... will it be hard to navigate with just the girls and I. I guess I am more worried about getting back to the airport after our vacation is over...
D~
I am not very happy with how this one turned out. :confused3
First of all - it didn't photograph well at all. The red is actually dark pink. And the dress isn't lopsided - I promise - I just can't take pictures. :rolleyes1 I do love how the hair clip turned out though - I was actually in the mood to make those tonght (I usually procrastinate so long on hair accessories that it can set me back weeks)... I figured I better do as many as I could while I felt like it. :rotfl2:
Anyways... #48:
Dining Plan is super easy when you are there. Yes, at a cs you just order your food and hand over your card. If it is you and the girls, it will show 3A on the card, meaning that there are 3 adults on the plan (well, Disney adults) at cs you will each get to pick a combo meal, which is usually burger and fries, or pizza and salad, or sandwich and something. You will only be able to order 3 meals at a time, and yes, you order dessert with your meal (not a lot of dessert choice at cs anyway).
At ts you tell your server you are on dining plan and they will tell you what it covers, cause it does not cover certain add ons, or specialty drinks usually.
We like 3 meals a day too, but I don't snack often ( the boys do). We usually had to pay for at least 4 beverages and 1 or 2 snacks each day. I usually used my snack for a big muffin or bagel for breakfast.
Well, you might not be happy with it, but it is ADORABLE. I love it. And the hair clip is fantastic. I am still facinated how you scaled down patterns, especially the feliz. You are awesome:woohoo:
the minnie dress is adorable! love her expression and the butt ruffles!
dining plan....yes just give them your card, at CS you order your dessert the same time....I have heard though if you get ice cream, keep your receipt then go back to get it after you are done eating, make sure the CM marks the receipt if you do.
ME is SUPER easy, make sure you put your luggage tags Disney sends you about a month out on BEFORE you leave home....when you arrive at MCO the luggage will get picked up my disney and delivered to the resort....you go down to the ME area, think its on the 1st floor, info will come with your luggage tags and paperwork....check in there, they tell you what bus to go on (keep your carry on with you) they take you to the resort, luggage will show up and get delivered to you room within a couple hours.
when flying out....check in at the resort (if you airline is included for that) when you are ready to check out of the resort...ME will schedule you to be picked up 3 to 3 1/2 hours BEFORE your flight...if you check in at the resort when you get to MCO all you have to do is go through security, ME will deliver your bags to the airport!
hope this makes sense....it is really easy and saves you having to lug your bags at MCO!
Thank you so much for answering my questions. :) So, what kind of things to people normally buy with their snack credits? Anything? I guess, what I am asking - especially snack items - are these things marked at the stores/stands that they are considered a snack. Or are you just supposed to know?
Thank you. :lovestruc I am working on something much more fun today (and maybe into tomorrow morning)...
I am also debating on scaling down another pattern. Don't get me wrong - I love the Feliz - but I can't keep sewing it for the rest of my life - so I will probably end up redrafting another pattern soon. :wizard:
Hard to believe that you are not happy with this. My younger dd just walked by the computer and she said, "That's an awesome doll dress!"
Thanks. :) I dunno - :confused3 - I guess I am just not a Minnie person - every time I go to make anything themed after her, I just can't get beyond the pink... and I know she does't wear much pink (originally) but otherwise she will look just like Mickey. LOL
the minnie dress is adorable! love her expression and the butt ruffles!
Interesting... I can see where that would be very beneficial. Although, my girls would't care - they'd be thrilled that they got to eat their icecream before dinner. They are already ecstatic that they get a refillable resort mug with the DP... I'll be the only person in the world who doesn't use it and get their $$ worth - because I make my kids get water. :rotfl2:
This sounds amazing! I am going to try to squish the girls and I into one shared suitcase... I am debating if I chould pack it with an empty one, as well? Does anyone ever do that? I can't imagine that we will bring home that many souviniers... Most of what we will be using is what we have purchased on previous trips.
I think we will be flying Sun Country... just because I like the terminal they fly out of here better (only 12 gates) and they are non-stop to MCO. From what I've read, they are not a participating airline. So, I would have to bring all of our luggage on the ME with us, on the way home, and then check in at the airport as usual? Can I still do online check in at the resort - do they have a pc available for that? Or will I need to bring the laptop and pay for internet access? :wizard:
Thanks so much everyone for explaining to me how all of this works. I am a very detail oriented person, and my biggest fear is to get somewhere and not know how something works... You should have seen me when planning to go to The Netherlands - I was a wreck! :rolleyes1
So, I started on outfit #47 last night (I just realized I forgot to change my ticker).... This one is a character I really enjoy doing, so I am having fun with it. I really want to have it finished today, but I have to go in for a short shift and get groceries afterwards - so, it's very possible that I won't finish this next one until tomorrow. I've been going at a pretty good clip, so far, and I can't sew an outfit a day forever, so I will just have to deal with it. :hippie:
Off to change my ticker. :thumbsup2
At one point, in one of the discussions people had a running list of all the different things you could get at the parks and hotels using your snack credits. Some of the "snacks" were enough to make into a meal. I tended to schedule us for an earlier lunch and a slightly later than normal dinner. Then we used the snack credit in the afternoon.
I always pack a collapsible duffel bag inside our suitcase. That way I have options if the kids buy some souvenirs. We've had the experience of needing to buy an additional bag in order to get home!
I can't wait to see what character outfit #47 is based on!
I just love this outfit D~
Yah - I am pretty new to sewing... It's the whole "wreck it if you got it" technique. LOL Makes me unafraid to try new things. :lovestruc
I know - I love the Runway too, it's been so much fun - just too time consuming though.
I'm working on that "wreck it" thinking myself. PR has pushed me WAY out of my usual comfort zone! It has been time consuming but on the bright side I'll have all for DD3's outfits for our Nov trip done because they've all been PR entries, so I'll just have DD10's coordinating outfits to finish.
I hope you enjoyed Patience's restoration. If you are ever interested in restoring a vintage machine, I'd be happy to pass along several links I used in restoring Patience.
Patience is beautiful and you put so much into her restoration! I'm working on polishing up my great-aunt's old (1940s, I think) Singer but she was still using it until she moved a few years ago so it doesn't really need restoration. I just have to replace a missing bobbin holder thingy and she'll be good to go.
If you sewed you'd go into Walmarts.
Unless, like me, you get past your aversion to Walmart just to find that the closest one with fabric is an hour away in a direction you NEVER have reason to go. I still haven't gotten out there. :sad2:
My only concern... OK - well I have a few of them... So, I go to a CS place - order our meal - and give them my KTTW card? And that's it? We're fairly big eaters but found the dining plan to be plenty of food. We did order a case of bottled water so that we weren't using snack credits for drinks, and some bananas, pop tarts, and other grab-and-go breakfast items to have in the room because we hate taking the time to start our day at the food court. But quite a bit of the food we had in the room went unused or ended up in the backpack to eat on the plane ride home.
Most CMs are very well versed in the dining plan and will be able to tell you exactly what is included. At counter service, some locations will stamp your receipt to allow you to come back within an hour to get your dessert if you want ice cream rather than a packaged dessert. And if you aren't in the mood for dessert, ask the cashier if you can substitute fruit or a bottle of water for your dessert - at most places this seems to be allowed and is a great alternative to another chocolate cake cup.
Magical Express has been wonderful for us. We've used it on every trip since we started going as a family and only had one semi-long wait for a bus. The pickup when you're returning to the airport will be about 3hrs before your flight, which we've found to be a pretty comfortable margin to get through security and get to our gate. We usually have between 30 and 45min to spare so I wouldn't want to cut it any closer just in case of security delays.
The snack credit sticky is at the top of the dining plan board. You don't have to wade through the thread, JJohnson keeps the first post updated as people report back. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2640292
I love the applique and it looks very pink to me! I am however going to have to scold you for cheating on the ruffles:furious: (sorry, no smilie for scolding that I can find so this will have to do ... where is Cheryl when I need her?).
Be sure you get Zebra Domes at AKL -- snack credit. Get extras to take back to your room. They make an excellent breakfast (um, hearsay, I would never eat eat Zebra Domes for breakfast :rolleyes1).
ANd I know you are trying to be thrifty Dorine, but really, making the girls fly in a shared suitcase? Buy the each a seat please.:lmao:
We just did the regular DP and I thought there was way too much to eat. Between four of us we had over 20 unused snack credits. I really should have just packed our cooler full of zebra domes (we drive).
Unless, like me, you get past your aversion to Walmart just to find that the closest one with fabric is an hour away in a direction you NEVER have reason to go. I still haven't gotten out there. :sad2:
Not worth an hour's drive unless it was like my old fabric dept at our Walmart -- since they've superwalmarted the selection is much poorer. Though I did find the exact fabric I was looking for that I needed for week 2's PR there just yesterday -- that was aggravating! Couldn't they have gotten it in 4 weeks ago?!
a great place to use your snack credits is at the new caramel shop in Germany.....SOOOOO GOOD, yu can get a pretty good size piece of milk or dark chocolate covered caramel and their caramel corn is great too! and then you can take it home...well if it lasts that long.
can't answer your question about checking in for airlines who aren't on the ME list we fly the ones on the list....maybe look over on the transporation threads, I don't think there is a computer you can use for check in at POFQ, not sure if you can have a CM do if for you at the guest services.
Others have answered, but Magical Express is wonderful!!! SO much easier than a rental car and you can't beat free.
I love it. Dots, dots and more dots.
I always pack a collapsible duffel bag inside our suitcase. That way I have options if the kids buy some souvenirs. We've had the experience of needing to buy an additional bag in order to get home!
I finally figured that out, too, but now that I go solo I'm not so much into buying sourvenirs -- just being there is enough for me. One year I was throwing stuff out because we couldn't fit everything in the suitcases. I guess that's why they sell suitcases at the resort gift shops.
I love the applique and it looks very pink to me! I am however going to have to scold you for cheating on the ruffles:furious: (sorry, no smilie for scolding that I can find so this will have to do ... where is Cheryl when I need her?).
I'm hoping under the new Obama jobs plan the smiley people will be able to hire a staff to make some more smileys. I REALLY need a little yellow head hitting itself with a very big hammer.
ANd I know you are trying to be thrifty Dorine, but really, making the girls fly in a shared suitcase? Buy the each a seat please.:lmao:
Oooh, I can answer this one - there isn't a public computer to use to check in for your flight, but anyone at the front desk/concierge will gladly get you checked in and print your boarding passes for you. Easy-peasy.
Awesome!!! Yah - that "wreck it" mentality is huge to get over - but once you do...
I just have to replace a missing bobbin holder thingy and she'll be good to go.
Thank you - I truly enjoy working with patience - she took my "hobby" and turned it into something that's a lot less work. Please, please, please post pics of your Great-Aunt's old Singer - I would love to see it!!! :lovestruc
We're fairly big eaters but found the dining plan to be plenty of food. We did order a case of bottled water so that we weren't using snack credits for drinks, and some bananas, pop tarts, and other grab-and-go breakfast items to have in the room because we hate taking the time to start our day at the food court. But quite a bit of the food we had in the room went unused or ended up in the backpack to eat on the plane ride home.
I splurged and purchased a Britta filtered water bottle - make Disney water taste AMAZING. We had one for our first trip - saved us a fortune (you can see it stuck in my fanny pack for all the pictures)... Then we misplaced it when we moved. In the process, Britta quit making them... so I searched the internet for weeks for our 2008 trip, and finally found a retailer that sold them... paid a fortune to have it shipped to me (from 40 miles away, no less)... Saved us a ton of $$ on our 2008 trip. On our last day in the parks, Alli set it down on top of a garbage, and left it there. :eek: So, when I was at work the other day - and saw that Britta started making the filtered water bottles again... I screamed with excitement and bought one right away... and the best part is - all the filters I had from all the other bottles fit. Hopefully we won't lose this one. I highly recommend them! :thumbsup2
This is awesome. I've never had a chocolate cake cup - so the girls and I will probably be delighted. :) We've always paid for our meals OOp, so desserts were never an option, unless we were at a buffet. Bring on the chocolate cake cups!!! :rolleyes1
This is good to know too. I know this is really strange, but I am looking forward to riding the ME, so hopefully I will get to see a couple of the other resorts. :wizard:
The snack credit sticky is at the top of the dining plan board. You don't have to wade through the thread, JJohnson keeps the first post updated as people report back. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2640292
Thank you so much... now, how in the world am I going to remember all of these snacks? Am I supposed to print this out and bring it with me???? :confused:
Can you tell me how to pm you so I can find out more about these outfits? I LOVE these!!!
Welcome!!! I am glad you love my outfits. :thumbsup2
Click on my name on the left of this post, and a drop down menu will appear - one of the options will be to send me a PM. :lovestruc
I love the applique and it looks very pink to me! I am however going to have to scold you for cheating on the ruffles:furious: (sorry, no smilie for scolding that I can find so this will have to do ... where is Cheryl when I need her?).
I know, I cheated. I"m sorry. :guilty: I thought the eyelet would be awesome - and it just didn't do it for me. I am glad others like it though.
Be sure you get Zebra Domes at AKL -- snack credit. Get extras to take back to your room. They make an excellent breakfast (um, hearsay, I would never eat eat Zebra Domes for breakfast :rolleyes1).
OK - now I have to go hunt down Zebra domes to see what they look like. It's a bummer that we aren't going to AKL until our last night - well, maybe that will be a good thing - then we can use up all our snack credits (if we have any) on Zebra Domes. :thumbsup2
ANd I know you are trying to be thrifty Dorine, but really, making the girls fly in a shared suitcase? Buy the each a seat please.:lmao:
Excuse me.... The suitcase is for my clothes. The girls are riding in the landing gear area of the plane. :confused3
We just did the regular DP and I thought there was way too much to eat. Between four of us we had over 20 unused snack credits. I really should have just packed our cooler full of zebra domes (we drive).
Well, you should have used up those snack credits some how... I just can't invision how we are going to have any left - we are such foodies.
Not worth an hour's drive unless it was like my old fabric dept at our Walmart -- since they've superwalmarted the selection is much poorer. Though I did find the exact fabric I was looking for that I needed for week 2's PR there just yesterday -- that was aggravating! Couldn't they have gotten it in 4 weeks ago?!
LOL - sorry, but that did make me laugh. So, did you buy it then? :rolleyes1
can't answer your question about checking in for airlines who aren't on the ME list we fly the ones on the list....maybe look over on the transporation threads, I don't think there is a computer you can use for check in at POFQ, not sure if you can have a CM do if for you at the guest services.
I will research it more... Can't be any worse than this:
Victoria packed into her seat (this is all our luggage) on the train in Europe... ROFL - no one really wanted to sit by us. :confused3 I was laughing so hard that tears were rolling down my face while I was taking this picture - people were just shaking their heads as they were walking by... and my DH - he chose to sit at the other end of the car... :confused3
Others have answered, but Magical Express is wonderful!!! SO much easier than a rental car and you can't beat free.
Oh yah - I'm all about free!
I love it. Dots, dots and more dots.
Thank you. :lovestruc
I finally figured that out, too, but now that I go solo I'm not so much into buying sourvenirs -- just being there is enough for me. One year I was throwing stuff out because we couldn't fit everything in the suitcases. I guess that's why they sell suitcases at the resort gift shops.
And those suitcases are Sooooo expensive.
I'm hoping under the new Obama jobs plan the smiley people will be able to hire a staff to make some more smileys. I REALLY need a little yellow head hitting itself with a very big hammer.
Self portrait?
OK - so I am home from work... ate lunch... time to go sew. Must finish this outfit. :woohoo:
Oooh, I can answer this one - there isn't a public computer to use to check in for your flight, but anyone at the front desk/concierge will gladly get you checked in and print your boarding passes for you. Easy-peasy.
Oooh - this is excellent to know. You are the best. :worship:
