~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
Hey D~ did you notice how close I am to 1500 posts?????? I think I should spend all afternoon filling up your ptr so I can get that task taken care of today.
Let's see.....I need to think up some things I know about you that you haven't posted on your ptr. When is the next backyard movie night? I can post your address for everyone so we all can join you popcorn::
The next outdoor movie night was supposed to be Halloween... but D~ got into the wine. :confused3 However, my next door neightbor and I decided that next Halloween, we are going to do a "haunted house" on our road. We are going to set up a canopy, and we are going to sit in chairs on the edge of it, give out candy and say "boo"... After all, we are pretty scary looking - we may just be able to pull it off. :rolleyes1
Sooo... The next outdoor movie night... Not so sure when that will be. I don't get into outdoor sports (or lack there of) in the winter time. I prefer to be indoors as much as possible.
Mr Rocket is a PITA - in case you were all wondering. I've done so many adjustments on him today - everything I do makes him worse - nothing ever makes him better. The only thing I can say, is that I can always get him back to my sub-par standards, but I can never get him to do anything better than that.
The girls and I are going to go organize the bathroom (Yes, I know, I was supposed to do that last week)... and then they are headed to church for youth group - so I am going to try and talk DH into taking me out for supper. Maybe we'll invite Mr Rocket to go with us, and I'll drop him out of the car window on the way. :confused3
I am lucky, my sewing room is on the second floor, so once something gets pushed out the window it meets its demise. My serger almost went out one evening. Grrrr! That got me thinking, the beautiful willow was outside my window and I loved birdwatching while sewing. We have a new tree planted, but I think it will be about three years before its branches can hold a cardinal.
Anyway, Mr. Rocket needs a new name. How 'bout "Mr. Money out of my pocket?" Or "I'd rather stick my finger in a socket." "Only good for a picture in my locket???" "Can't sew so might as well mock it?" The only other thing I can think of is a spin on the movie "The Focklers" so I best not mention it here :rotfl:
So - church with my bestie ROCKED! Literally - the band was a rock band and one of the songs was Coldplay's "Death and all his friends"
I know y'all don't know me well enough to really understand this comment, but I was comfortable enough at this church to go up for Communion! And, after we'd gone up for Communion and were sitting while others went up for their's, I looked across the arena (This church meets in an old warehouse and that's what they call the sanctuary) and my old college roommate that was a horrible person (he chased me and our other roommate around the house with a carving knife because we wanted him to actually give us money to pay his share of the bills, among other reasons for why he was not a good person) - seeing him in the past would actually make me sick to my stomach . . . and I just looked at him and didn't care - I could let it go.
So, between the great experience I had and the fact that Phalen as already asked if we can go every week, I think we've finally found our church!
I am NOT happy about these Mr Rocket reports! Doesn't he know he's supposed to be on his best behavior and he was adopted into the best family for vintage machines EVER? Skipping stitches is NOT acceptable!
I went to Joann's (again - and I LOVE that I can just pop in there whenever now!!! It might be one of THE smallest Joann's ever, but it's still right there and clean and organized!) looking for buttons - no luck, but I did pick up a Christmas ornament for an ornament exchange (holiday items are 50% off) and 4x6 photo albums for our park planner and epcot excursion pages :)
Then we went to Walmart and bought buttons :)
I'm off to get the boys to have "quiet time" (heaven forbid we call a spade a spade and say "naptime" :rolleyes1 ) so I can get more sewing done!
Oh! D~ I picked up two small backpacks at Walmart while I was home - $7 each - they might be a good starting point for an idea for your boys park bag...
I took a picture with it on top of the Figment bag so you have an idea of the size. . .
Love the names you are coming up with... I've come up with a few myself... How about... That sounds awesome that you've found your home church. :lovestruc
I like your backpack idea, but I don't think I am talented enough for backpacks yet... I like the size though and I will try and come up with something fun for boys.
We are back :sad1:. MK was great today! Low wait times!
If we weren't so tired we would have stayed a bit longer. Hard to sleep with a 3yr old kicking you in your side all night!
Sorry Mr Rocket is giving you trouble :headache:!
I have been very tempted to throw my machine a time or 2!
As for the "boy bag" maybe more of a messenger style...or the newer modern style bags? http://www.onlineshoes.com/mens-ameribag-healthy-back-bag-tote-microfiber-xs-black-p_id130362:confused3
Those are intersting bags... Hmmmm...
Bummer that you couldn't stay at MK longer, but I am glad you had a good weekend.
Mr. Rocket got a bunch more adjustments... I did not sew one single stitch on one single item that I was supposed to. Nope, I wasted my entire day trying to adjust him - and I am not happy about it.
Finally, I think I got him where I can use him - he is not skipping any stitches at my most common appliqueing setting, but if I go a hair over, he starts skipping. I hate to say it, but I might actually have to find an Old Sewing Machine Guy and see if someone else can fix him. As much as I would love to use him for my appliqueing - right now - I just don't like how his stitching looks, so I am going to have to resort to swapping out all the bobbins again. :eek: I dunno... Maybe I can use him on simple appliques, but if he wrecks the one I am working on right now, I think I will blow a gasket.
Anyways, a thoroughly wasted weekend - I didn't accomplish a single thing, except learn how to set the timing on a sewing machine, learn how to set the needle bar height, learn how to take off the gears and put them back on, learn how to measure the bobbin settings in various locations with a handy dandy tool that I don't know the name of, learn how to check the threading 1 million times, learn how to insert every type needle I own, learn how to set and reset and reset and reset the tension...
I'm so glad you found a church you like. I am not a church person -- I was raised going to church every Sunday but our church was so hypocritical that I couldn't stand it. Once my sister and I got confirmed my mother finally had enough as well and we dropped out. My dh is Atheist so I never really have looked into rediscovering church. I have offered to take my dd as she has inquired, but after going to a funeral she quickly lost interest (It was a really nice funeral too at a modern church, but my friend passed away at 50 yrs leaving behind a 5 y/o adopted dd so it have been a bit too much for my dd.
Your old roommate sounds like a horrid creature! Bravo to you for not being phased by seeing him. Part of the reason I don't have a true fb account is because of a strange stalker I had in grad school -- I would freak if I saw him again and chances are he wouldn't harm me, but still bad associations.
One of my friends buys those backpacks and embroiders on the front pocket. I looked for them when it was bts time and they had one black and one hot pink one with no tags on them and the last thing I wanted to do at Walmart was wait an hour for the yahoos to figure out a price. My friend stocks up on them and gives them as birthday gifts. She has some fabulous embroidery machine though that's way better than mine. She also has a personal trainer, a hot wardrobe, a housekeeper, etc. Not that I'm jealous :rolleyes1
I think your names are highly appropriate. I am sorry you didn't get a thing done other than take Mr. Rocket apart and put him back together a few times. Kind of like playing with legos? Let's hope we both have a more productive week.
Just bouncing around some ideas...
As I am trying to price out airfare, I am noticing that during the month of March - it is very expensive to fly out on a thursday or friday... If we leave on tuesday - we save almost $300 p/p one way... So, $900 total. So, I am seriously debating adding 2 more days to our trip... Even if we come out even in the end - that's an extra 2 days at WDW.
Since I've never stayed at WDW before... is it difficult to add extra days on to an existing reservation with free dining?
I just don't know what to do... I am all about saving $$, but this doesn't really save us any $$, it just gives us more bang for our buck. :surfweb: And I am having a hard time paying for this trip as it is, so adding the extra $$ on to the total due in 2 months is going to be really a lot of pressure. I don't think I will have any problems paying for the existing reservation... I have some extra $$ coming in at the end of the year - and the airfare I can always buy when it gets closer to leaving = which gives me extra time to save (but I am a little freaked out that I don't have airfare yet). I just need to be able to make my decision soon, since the free dining offer to book ends with in the next month. I just don't know what to do. :confused3
It all depends on availability and the actual dates of the free dining...adding dates at the end is always easier than at the beginning...call you TA or Disney to see...Small plug here...if you need a TA for Disney...check out the auction on HS facebook page
Marianne - Love the pictures you took of your Figment bag, the fabrics look great and I can't wait to see your skirt. Glad you are able to join back in, you were a good girl waiting for your surprise.
I can imagine it would be a little exhausting doing Disney on your own with two little ones. Glad you had fun.
What a bummer that Mr. Rocket doesn't want to cooperate. Probably because he is male he needs a little more TLC. You don't want to ruin any appliques since you work so hard on them. I hope he decides to be nice to you and stops skipping stitches. I hate when you are ready to get some stuff done and it doesn't work out.
As long as the promotion is still running and there are rooms available at your hotel you shouldn't have a problem changing your reservation. If there is no availability you may have to switch to a different hotel to get the additional days. The FD has to be available on the Tuesday or Wed that you want to check in or you won't have it for those days of your trip. It is crazy that the airfare is so much. I can't believe the end of the year is already 45 days before your trip, it is coming quick. I hate that airfare prices change so much and you can't get a good feel to see if they will change. I am always worried that airfare will go up so I try to book it when I can. Maybe you can just hold out for another month to see if the airfare goes down and see if you are closer to your money saving goal? Sorry, I am no help. A few extra days in Disney sounds great but I wouldn't go into debt over it!
In my experience ... Disney is pretty flexible with you making changes to your package (so long as it makes the price go up). However, that said, it may not be possible to add days to a POFQ package. You may have to change resorts. Granted, there may be availability ... you won't know unless you call and ask.
I've even made changes to my reservation after a deal has expired, and as long as it was an 'upgrade', they allowed me to keep my deal. Granted, I think the CMs don't have to let you keep the deal if it's expired ... and if they are new, they may not know that it can be kept (and it may be that a higher level CM can do it, but not a newer one, or it may be a matter of pixie dust). Lots of "ifs" ...
The best thing to do is call your TA or WDW and just see what's available. And remember, airfare fluctuates ... you may find a great deal today and tomorrow it's $400 higher ...
I wish you the bestest of luck and can't wait to hear what you decide! :goodvibes
Ohh you should totally call Disney and talk it out! But dont add more pressure and stress! It is not fun not knowing if you're going to be able to make the final payment! Believe me!
My personal experience with trying to add days on at free dining was that I always had to cancel and rebook the package. I thought this was the standard way of going about things until when I wanted to add a day on at Christmas they easily just added it. Then again, when you are paying full rack rate, they probably make it easier on you. Hopefully yours would be an easy fix!
never booked during free dining, so no help there! have changed my dates before though with no problems.....airfare is always such an issue for us too coming from WA....call to see about adding your day's, then make your decision.
Go online and act like you're booking a new reservation with the new dates. It may give you some idea if there is availability. It is possible though that it doesn't come up as available today it could be tomorrow! People cancel reservations every day, especially around the 45 day mark (when the balance is due). If you find it available, I would go ahead and book it, then cancel the first one. You would have to pay another deposit, but you would get the old deposit refunded to you. I am soooo glad I don't have to pay airfare - I would never be able to go!
Hmmm...the problem with this idea is the whole free dining aspect. They don't have lots of free dining available all the time. Just because a room is available doesn't mean it is available for free dining...
Can't you book the free dining online? If you can't do that, then you are right! Last time I went for free dining I just did it online, but it's been a couple of years.
I guess it depends on if the free dining is still available as an option... I know some dates went away in October, and some go away in November...and some are staying around until December... I haven't looked at the dates for March in a while...
March can still be booked for FD online ... but they only have X amount of rooms at each resort available for FD. Once those FD rooms are full, then it's either try a different resort or book a standard room at rack rate (or see if there are other deals available).
For instance ... I could book a standard room, or a room with the current % off discount for POFQ, but FD was only available for CBR and CSR for my dates (when I booked).
People cancel all the time for numerous reasons ... so there's always the possibility that rooms can open up here and there (and close just as quickly).
However, I do know that if you want to modify your package, it must be done through a TA or through WDW. And odds are, a room won't show as available, but the days may or may not be available if WDW was called. The only way to know is by calling. :thumbsup2
Granted, you can always try checking online, but you'll still have to call to get your deposit moved over to your "updated" package. From what I've heard, WDW is not in a hurry to refund your money if you cancel a package (even if you're just rebooking). I totally recommend just modifying a package, not rebooking. :upsidedow
(Nini, I wasn't directing this to you, was just extending your fabulous quote.)
