Have a dear friend who has an adult son with a disability. I have been attempting to come up with a meaningful way to help her & others; am wanting to sew some reusable / washable WATERPROOF bed pads for them. Have bigger idea of engaging my church's sewing club to crank out a larger volume to donate to local family run disability help group. I've worked with my friend to get a clear idea of a pattern / dimensions but am struggling with waterproof fabric ... I can't find anything remarkably absorbent to sandwich in between outer layers of cloth & can't find anything soft to put on the underside of pad to provide waterproof barrier that is cost effective. Vinyls and coated fabrics are expensive & will cause "sweating". Anyone have experience making something like this - maybe for a newborn or even an elderly parent? I could use some help!!! Thanks

Not sure if this helps or not. But if you have a Joann's store near you they have some very nice waterproof material available. My local Joann's has an aisle located next to the buttons/ribbon section that has patterns and waterproof fleece/material for making waterproof diapers and pads. I'm not sure how expensive the supplies are. But they do accept competitor coupons like Michael's and always have those 40% off coupons online that you can print and use.
