Several Questions

Ok, I have asked versions of this before - so I am kinda prepared. However, the experts (you guys) know much better than me - and I am in a quandary. We are actively trying to add on points at CC. Our Use Year is April. There are not a lot of 100 point April Use Years that pop up. So far, in the last two months, we have had two taken by the RORF lady. That has me considering a contract with an October Use Year. We only travel once a year (at most) but may increase our frequency in a few years when we retire. The new contract will just allow us to extend the amount of time we are there, most likely half the time at the Polynesian and the other half at CC. In that instance it seems like one Use Year would be best, right? But it seems like it would be do-able with two Use Years, especially if we traveled in April. Would you do the second Use Year?
Also, I just read on the ROFR thread that CC points are actually hard to rent - unless they are for the Holiday season. We would not be renting points often but we might from time to time. This would seem to make the October Use Year more valuable than the April one. Does that change the equation?
Who knows, maybe I just have addonitis so bad I can’t stand the wait. 😂. What is best wait and get the April Use Year, or chance it with a second c
Membership and October Use Year?

I have two Memberships and two different UY. Too me, it's not a bother, easy enough for me to mange the banking/borrowing deadlines and keep track of all the points.

It really just depends on you as the person. If you just want to easily book and not worry about too much details, than I wouldn't do it, and just get same UY at same resort. You have to decide whether it will just end up being to much work or just some minor inconveniences. Too me, if I can get better pricing on a different UY, it's way worth it, and I would do it. But I know many others feel otherwise.

Good Luck on your decision.

Great3

I would consider a couple of other options before getting a different use year.
1) You might be able to buy the use year you want direct from Disney (but this is expensive)
2) Buy resale Poly in the use year you need. The first year, you bank your poly points and stay at CC. The next year you bank your CC points and stay at Poly. Or do split stays.

I bought 2 resorts with 2 use year , one BLT and one BCV. The price was the reason for this combinaison. The two are easy to rent. If you buy 2 use year , I would buy two resorts.

UY doesnt matter for renting as you still would be booking the same time regardless.

If your plan is split stays, the having the same UY isn’t as big of a deal and your April travel does work with both,

The hard part is when you don’t want to split stay, or need a few extra points from the other.

That will require a transfer, which means you have to call first. Being different resorts, you can only use them at 7 months so at least you don’t lose the extra hour online if you have done it ahead of time.

These are totally opposite UYs, so this doesn't make sense to me. The upside of two UYs is you use one for one half of the year, the other for the other half. If your'e using both in one trip one time a year, one of them is going to be in a bad position for banking. You could get a two similar UYs, no big deal. But I don't see why you'd get an opposite one if you only go once a year.

I'd never make any of these decisions based on renting out points.

If you're staying at Poly anyway, now is an awesome time to buy Poly.

We have 4UYs and multiple resorts - however - we don’t have any resorts that span different UYs - transferring can get complicated if you want to combine points and it’s never been worth it to me. If you get a second UY (or third or fourth), I recommend you get a different resort from your first. If you like Poly - it may be worthwhile to wait for the new Poly tower or you could consider an Epcot/HS area resort to give you an option with quick park access other than MK…

It feels like CC inventory is low right now. We’re looking for the same thing. April use year. 100 pts. We also got bit by ROFR recently. It’s tempting to try a different use year just because there is nothing to even bid on. Fingers crossed for more inventory soon.

I agree with what you said exactly. However, we already own Poly points (April) and trips at that time of year have worked perfectly for us. However, and I should have mentioned this earlier, as we near retirement we may want to travel in the fall or during the colder months when we don’t have to worry about being back for work. For those trips our April Use year is horrible, the reason we are considering a fall Use Year for our second contract. Granted, for the next 4 (maybe 5) years we would have an awkward combination but after that we have the full calendar available for banking points with Use Years 6 months apart. (FWIW, I am leaning towards just sticking with a single Use Year, I just find those extra fall dates tempting.)

I wouldn't buy points for years down the road. I'd just wait. I consider DVC in flux right this moment, with the AP weirdness and Disney decisions overall. If I'm considering selling, I'm not the only one.

Or, heck, just wait a year and buy into Poly2 if you plan to hold for retirement.

This is where we will have to agree to disagree. I think now is the exact right time to buy in preparation for a few years down the road. The only thing that happens if you wait is that the price goes up. Also, we are in a position where we could retire tomorrow if we so choose. We continue to work now because we both love our jobs. However, we each could decide at any time that the time has come to call it quits. We want to have our second membership in hand when that happens.
While I agree with you that some of the decisions by Disney management leave me shaking my head, I don’t count the AP status as a reason for us to buy or not buy. We don’t have to go to the parks anymore (at least every day) to enjoy or vacations. (Our kids are a different matter 🙂). I do think you are right that some will sell. But I think that most say that but when it comes right down to it they don’t. Look at these boards, I have seen a lot of people say they’re going to sell for months. However, despite all the management decisions they are still members.
We are solely looking to add on at Copper Creek because it is my DH’s favorite resort and he wants 11 months home advantage. Poly 2? Well…I am kinda ambivalent about this development. We are happy with our current Poly contract. If Poly2 is a new association, so be it, I am quite happy with Moorea or Tolelau. Plus, I can just imagine how horrific the new points chart is going to be. So, I imagine we add CC to our current April Use Year - but October is still a possibility.

IMO, assuming DVC in general holds value, CCV will continue to hold value as SAP because of how long the contract is. And then there's the chart!

I don't even like CCV, and I've seen more than a few CCV I was tempted by. It will always be at risk for ROFR. So, you have to decide whether you want to be patient or just pay more right now.

Disney and DVC could be in a very different place a year from now, if APs as we know them are eliminated. I know I wouldn't have even looked at DVC, if that had been the case at the time.
