Sever allergy to shellfish.

I hope this is the right place to post this.

I suffer from a severe allergy to shellfish. I can't have anything that is cooked in the same pan as shellfish. If I do, I could have a serious reaction. Usually when I go out to eat at home, I request that anything I order be cooked separate from the shellfish.

Most of the time I don't have a problem. In fact once, the manager came out to talk to me personally.

My question is this: I know it is an allergy to only one thing, but when I call to make my ADR should I tell them operator that takes my ressie? I hate to be a bother, but I don't want to end up in the hospital during my vacation.

Thanks in advance for any help....

Yes, tell them! Also, there's some info in the 'stickies' at the top of this forum, and in there you will find the phone number of Brenda Bennett (sp?), at least I think it's listed in there. There's more info about when to call the restaurant too, etc.

I am severely allergic to all seafood. My reaction is so bad that on one occasion where I had to be taken to the hospital was after a work Christmas party that I arrived to late because our server died and since I’m the computer specialist I stayed in the office to make arrangement for new hard drives to arrive and then went to the party. One of the managers in the office got my meal for me but by the time I got there everyone had finished eating. There was a napkin leaning on the bottom of my glass of water I picked up the water and drank it not knowing that the person that had been in the seat next to be had whitefish. So you can see I don’t even have to ingest it to get a reaction.
That being said I have never had a reaction from any Disney restaurant or on a cruise ship because both have separate kitchens or area and refrigerators where the fish and other foods never meet.

Please tell the CM when you make your ADRs. It's no bother at all. The chefs like to know dietary requests in advance. It will make it easier for them to accomodate you and you'll have a better, safer trip. :thumbsup2

ditto to all the pp's: also, be sure to carry your epi pen also, just in case

Thanks for all the great words of support. Sometimes my DH and DS get tired of me having to explain my allergy. They are understanding, but sometimes can't understand why it is so hard for others to understand.

I always carry my epi pen with me whenever I go out to eat. You never know when something could fall into a soup or a pot.

As a side note. Has anyone ever heard of shrimp in wonton soup? The family and I went out for dinner at a chinese restaurant one night. Well, I ordered my food. REquested to have clean dishes to cook my food. You would have thought the waitress would have thought to tell me that the wonton soup had shrimp in it. Thank goodness I didn't eat any of it. Sitting right on top was a huge piece of shrimp. I promptly set it aside and waited for the waitress to come back. I showed her the bowl and she had the nerve to act upset. She took the soup and brought some back. I couldn't eat it though. I was too nervous thinking about whether it was actually a "shrimp free" bowl or if she had just taken it back and scooped the shrimp out.

Catniprules:

I cannot have bread and ordered a sandwich no bread. I got a cheesy sandwich with bread. Note the cheese. He had the audacity to rip the bread off and send it back out. I learned long ago that when their is a fly in your coffee you put a ton of salt in the coffee. "Here is a fresh cup of coffee, sorry about the fly." and then I am spitting salty coffee. If I get something like breaded fish or a sandwich with bread I make sure I pepper, salt and ketchup it to death so it is inedible. They also do not understand that no bread means the veggies and potatos that touched the bread are now tainted so please do not spend time making me new meat with old cold taters.

Some people just do not get the dangers of cross contamination. The last year I was at DLR I was always given the best GF meals and the table restaurants really did care.
