"Seven Seven 07" 20070707-11 Night Mediterranean Cruise

Hi Danielle,

Just wondering if the shirt fit? I was going to order ours and saw your post.

I'm going to keep the one we purchased/received for DS10. It fits him right at his hip bones. I'd say it's about 2 inches smaller than most of his other shirts, but it looks great and as long as he doesn't grow too much in the next 6 weeks, it will be fine. DS6's shirt fit perfect at size 6-8 and mine fit well too. DH and my MIL haven't tried theirs on, but I'm sure they'll fit. The colors all look nice (white, red, gray, navy, light blue and chocolate).

Looks like our cruise list is up to almost 100

Now If we could just get our passports:confused3

When did you submit them? Were they new or renewals? Expedited?

DH applied for a renewal and my sons and I applied for new ones on 2/22. It took DH's 2 days shy of 10 weeks. The rest of ours came 10 weeks and 3 days after submission. They all came in individual little priority mail envelopes. The boys birth certificates were in with the passports and my expired passport was in my little priority mail envelope. I tried the online passport checking link every day and they weren't even entered until a good 6 weeks and still do not even say they were sent.

OK - Here you go::::cool1: I'm reporting back with our room assignment::

If you didn't know, we were originally booked in a Cat 9 on deck 2 for this cruise, - and we decided to roll the dice, and switched to a GTY Cat 12 – last week, when someone posted about incredible Med prices. WE SAVED @ $5400.00,   and I just checked DCL’s website, and it says…….:rolleyes1 ..... drumroll please.....

Ship Accommodation: Stateroom #2504 :cheer2:
Catagory 12: Standard Inside Stateroom

2504 is a Category 9 – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom!!! Woo Hoo! How lucky is that!pixiedust:

My only concern is that it is very very forward on the ship. :sail: We have always stayed mid-ship in the past. Anyone have any experience with a room in the front of the ship in the past? Is there more motion???

Also – can anyone confirm that all Oceanview rooms on Deck 2 have the large porthole window?

Either way – I am MORE than HAPPY that the dice rolled in our favor and we got bumped up to a Cat 9!

Wishing GOOD LUCK:tinker: to anyone else who decided to “downgrade” and take advantage of the unbelievable savings!

Oh - we ordered our shirts tonight from printfection - pistachio for me, stone blue for DH, Ice Grey for DS18 and Gold for DS12. And I ordered a Pac-Safe Metrobag 200 for carrying around at the ports, along with a neck wallet for the passports - this sight had the best price: http://www.mountainsports.com/MSmain.asp?Option=Detail&Detail=051954
plus free shipping!

Happy cruising!:cool2:

Sher

Congrats Sheryl ... I'm glad things worked out for you ... I thought about it, but there being only 2 of us, I probably would have got a cat 12. I'm just 3 floors above you in one of the SPR rooms. I got a porthole and didn't spend as much money as a cat 9. I'm trying to determine how I'm going to stuff everything in two suitcases now, as that is the limit for the ABD I'm booked on before the cruise. Mind you , they didn't say what the size limits for the bags were. It's going to be tough, but doable. I'll have to be sure to bring lots of laundry soap  I'm also going to try and pack a suitcase in my suitcase or at least a canvas carryons in my suitcase for souvenirs coming home. I'll figure it out somehow! I've also decided to bring my laptop. My mom had a stroke 11 months ago, so I want to make sure there is a means of contact if needed. I've checked out the cost of internet access and read my daughter the riot act if she goes over the time limit. :rotfl:

Hi Sher,
We also have our room assignment. Originally a cat 11 on deck 6. Saved $4000 and are now in a cat 9 on deck 2:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: We'll be a few doors down from you. We stayed in the most forward cabin on our last cruise and didn't have problems with the motion. Of course, DH was wearing his patch and he's the only one who's bothered by motion.

Thank you for posting the information here. I don't think I would have known about the discounts otherwise. :thanks:

Found this on the DIS cruise line page:

Category 8 and 9- Both category 8 and 9 have large portholes and can accommodate a maximum of either 3 or 4 guests. Category 9 staterooms are found on decks 1 and 2. (The category 9 staterooms on deck 1 feature two smaller porthole windows in lieu of one large one.) Category 8 staterooms are located on decks 5, 6, and 7. Both categories feature a split bathroom.

See you soon!
Kathy

Sher

Just found this on the DIS room reports page about your cabin:

Was listed as a noisy room, but was very quiet. The room was a longer cat. 9 room by about 3-4 feet. We loved it!! - from 2004

Our 3rd cruise; the other 2 were in 2508. More room than 2508; great location with plenty of quiet. Only problem was the bow thruster noise at 5 am on the last day. Great room other than that. - from 2006

Extra room for your boys!!:cool1:

I checked yesterday afternoon and no assignments :sad2:

:tink: was busy lastnight! I just checked and we are in 2638 and 2640, :cool1:connecting Cat 9s!:cool1:

Just wanted to pass along that I ran across some men's cargo shorts at Wal-mart. What's nice is that the back and leg pockets are buttoned and have a flap over the buttons, and they were around $7-8.

Also, there are clear, sealable pouches on lanyards at the men's wallets for 97¢ We bought these for our last cruise and they were great! There is zippered portion for a few $ and a sleeve part that holds the KTTW card. (Will probably pick up some more, but I heard that CC members receive a DCL one as a gift.)

:welcome: Kay. Just wanted to point out that you were the :cheer2:900th :cheer2: post

AND this is my party: 100th party:

You guys are all so lucky, I did the same. Changed from Cat 8 to a 12. Save 6500. Couldn't resist the savings and was willing to gamble on a room. Our dice was not as hot. Cat 11 Stateroom 6039. I wonder if they gave Castaway Club members better rooms, this is our first cruise. We are OK with it because we knew the consequences and now our DCL Mexican Riviera is paid for, but I was still hoping.

Hi Kay - our first DCL was in an inside room ( cat 10 on deck 2 ) and we had no problem with being inside. The only difference in your room is a small "porthole" mirror instead of the real thing.
Although the large window is very nice - in my opinion - there is no window in the world worth $6500!!! Oh - and you don't have the split bath, which is convenient - but we cruised on the Voyager of the Sea - 4 of us in one room - one bath - not split and survived 9 nights with no problem. As one poster mentioned somewhere on these boards - if everyone taking a shower to get ready becomes an issue - they said the showers in the spa or gym ( I forget which - but I am sure you can easily find out once on board) are VERY nice and can be used by anyone.

And most important to remember - how much are you really in your room after all!! And the beds are all the same! AND - you've got 2 cruises for the price of one!

Take care!
Sherri

Hi All,

Kay - I hope I can make you feel better by telling you that not all CC members got the better cabins. The Med will be our 5th DCL cruise. We sort of rolled the dice, too, but in a different way than everyone else. We were all set to share our Cat4 cabin with our two adult children but, when the Cat12GTY price dropped, we decided to book a separate cabin for them. :woohoo: We cancelled them from our original cabin and still received a $1,000 refund after paying for the new cabin for them! :cool1: We were hoping they would end up in an inside cabin fairly close to our Deck 8 cabin, but they ended up being assigned to an actual Cat12 on deck 2. :sad1: So, here's an example of two 4-time DCL cruisers who ended up without an upgrade at all.

Just think - just six short weeks until we'll be sailing the Mediterranean! Are you all as glued to the trip reports and blogs as I am?!?!?! :surfweb:

Hi Deb! Sorry things didn't work out differently for you guys - but a cabin of their own for $1000 less isn't too bad - besides - they are near our cabin - so if you need us to do room checks at night - just let me know :thumbsup2 LOL :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ! AND - Cat 12s on deck 2 are right below the night clubs, where they will probably be spending most of their time any way :woohoo: :woohoo: - so it will be a short walk downstairs to their room at night!

Yes, I too have been glued to the blogs and trip reports - can't wait to hear from the first Med Cruisers!! WOW - 6 weeks! CAN'T WAIT!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day all!

Take care,
Sher

Well everyone ... I'm happy for some and sorry for others. To Dad of lost boys and APinCa and Shercara .. Congrats. To Kouris family and adult children of Deb T ... think of the money you saved, $6500 is a lot of money and so is $1000.

On a side note, I was speaking to DCL about shipping a parcel to the ship and here is the info I got.

  1. You can only ship packages or gifts. You cannot ship luggage, beverages or food.
  2. You must include the contents of the package on the packing slip. You must also include your name, sail date, ship, and cabin number on the packing slip.
  3. You must ship the package to the following address at least 10 days in advance.
Address
Bluewater Shipping Espana S.A.
c/Atlantic, 109-111
ZAL. Zona Actividades Logistica
08040 Barcelona

phone 34-93-295-4848

Hope this will come in handy for some of you. I checked, and for me to send a 15 pound parcel would cost around $250 Canadian. I think the charge for the overweight luggage may be cheaper.

On another note, I asked her about our chances of seeing the new HP movie on the ship, and she said they were pretty good, as they have aired other HP movies. The new one is being released July 13, on our at sea day. If they show it at midnight then at least we can sleep in the next morning. I'm not going to hold my breath on this one, but I'm a little more hopeful!

Have a great day all!

Oh yeah - we're most definitely happy that our adult children have their own space! Our daughter has lived on her own for five years, and our son has lived on his own for three years, so having the four of us in one cabin for 11 nights might not have been the ideal situation. :crowded: And we were thrilled with the $1,000 refund, too! ::yes:: It just would have been nicer to have them a little closer for when we're setting up meeting times, like before meals and before the shows.

You cracked me up about the bed checks at night! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

See you in six weeks!

Thanks for the encouraging words, I know it will be great. I am so excited.

Hi, I just tried to fill out the forms required online. The first form requires that you list where you are going after you get off the cruise. It requires that you choose a US State. We are staying in BCN. ANy ideas how this works and what I am doing wrong???? Thanks for your help.

Can't believe the trip is coming so fast! I am going to check out some lighter luggage tomorrow, but LL Bean is looking good from the catalogs.

Hi Carol,
I was going to call DCL about that. I had the same problems. The computer kept changing my times as well. I did as much as I could and gave up. That reminds me, I still haven't called.:confused3

Everyone else must be having the same problems.
See you soon,
Kathy

I remember that problem, I think I left it alone and it corrected itself as I hit the last button. Just fill everything out as much as you can and hit submit.
