Thank you! I will try to read over the mounds of info in the previous threads so I can make the best choice for us. So happy to have the pin- really opens new possibilities for us.

Kathy

Thank you for the info on the culinary tour, it sounds interesting!! I hope to make time for it in November. Do you just show up at 4, or do you sign up for it earlier?

Hi, sorry that I was not back on here sooner. Yes, you just show up at 4. By the time I got down there at 4:07 no one was at the Jiko podium but hostesses were at the Boma podium (they're almost side by side) and I asked there if I could join the tour in progress. I have a feeling it had just started a minute or two before I arrived as they had not yet gotten to the beginning of the buffet.

As I was reading All Ears tonight I found the proper description to what we were served on the Jiko part of the tour. It was one of their appetizers: Taste of Africa, which features four different dips to accompany the Lentil Pappadum and Whole Wheat Lavosh bread. The Lentil Pappadum is a wafer-thin cracker, perfect for dipping!

....I spent the whole morning at a seminar learning about a new computer program installed in our school computers....

It's not AKL, but I'm so sad right now about Davy Jones. :sad1: I remember watching the Monkees when I was little and I swear it was one of my first albums. So glad I got to see him at Epcot a few years ago.

I know, and he was supposed to be at the Flower and Garden Festival in May. So sad.

Well, unexpectedly, we will be staying at AKL this August! I say unexpectedly b/c we were looking to try CSR (it was full) and the only other option was a pirate room at CBR. We weren't that interested and when I figured out that with the military discount it was only about $30 less than a standard at AKL, I went ahead and booked AKL. We are very excited. We stayed there about 7 1/2 years ago and loved it, but that was without kids. So I have several questions. I've been pouring through the threads, but haven't seen answers to everything.

-Is the culinary tour something it would be appropriate to take a 7 1/2 year old on? Or is it adult only?
-When do they typically do the story hour? After sunset? I'm trying to figure out a good time for Boma reservations so we don't miss the story time. Also, isn't there a time when they do a dance through the lobby with drums etc? (we happened upon it a few years ago when we were there for dinner)
-How much of a trek is it from Jambo house over to Kidani to go to the pool? Is it worth the trip? (I see from the pictures they have a water play area) Would you *have* to take the bus?
-We have never stayed in a standard room there and I realize that it could be a view of the parking lot. Is there anything I can say that will make it less likely to be a view of a loading dock or something? Is asking for "close to the lobby" a bad thing?

We are chilling out before our eastern Caribbean cruise :yay:, and will be hanging out at the resort rather than going to the parks. So any suggestions for things we can do at the resort are appreciated.

Thanks for your help! Getting really excited about the trip already!

Congrats!!!

It is NOT adult only - and you can bring your child - I brought my DS who was 10 at the time - he enjoyed it.

There is an activities board right next to the check in desk - it will give the times of everything going on that day - make sure you check it!!! BUT, typically the story is at dusk. Yes, it's the primal parade and as far as I know it's still going on - I'm thinking it was around 8 ish? Can't remember exactly, but, again, it'll be on the activities board.

That depends on what you consider a trek!!! LOL - I know they used to run a golf cart during the day back and forth till around 4 pm - I'm not sure if they still do it or not (or if they EVER do it in the summer) - but taking the bus over isn't a big deal - it's easy if you don't want to walk that far!! I can't comment on the "is it worth it" - my DS loves the Jambo pool - so even though we usually stay at Kidani - he wants to go over there - your child may love it though - so, try it at least once!! :)

We are DVC - so maybe someone else can give you advice for this!!

We are chilling out before our eastern Caribbean cruise :yay:, and will be hanging out at the resort rather than going to the parks. So any suggestions for things we can do at the resort are appreciated.

Again, ALL the activities will be listed on the board - I do know there is FREE cookie decorating during the day, your child should enjoy, there are activities out by the pool (ds built a birdhouse one day), the night vision goggles, etc... etc... I'm pretty sure they still do the night time pool movies - but just check the activities board - again it's in the lobby right next to the check in desk!!! :)

Thanks for your help! Getting really excited about the trip already!

:)
