Service Charges

If anyone one has been on any of the disney cruise line ships could they please inform us if there are any service charges onboard the ships.

You are expected to tip your stateroom host, server, head server, and assistant server. Additionally an automatic gratuity will be added to any beverage purchase.

The "suggested" tipping amounts add up to about $11/day per person. A 15% "auto-gratuity" is added to all drinks purchased at the bars and in the dining rooms. You can add to that at your discretion. There is a $5 surcharge if you eat dinner at Palo, the adults-only alternative restaurant. Palo also has a champagne brunch which costs $10. And, if you order room service, you should tip the person who delivers for you (if you order drinks via room service, the 15% auto-tip applies).

Other things that cost extra include the arcades, shore excursions, spa treatments, photos from the ship's photographers, wine tasting, and probably a few other things which escape me.

Soda is free in the dining rooms with meals, but costs extra from the bars and room service.

In addition to paying for the excursions, you might want to give out some tips too, depending on which one you do. For example, when we did the stingray snorkeling, I think we tipped the guide on the boat (he earned it...handed out the stingray food, helped us hold the rays for photos, etc.). On the horseback riding excursion in Cozumel, we tipped our guide and also the man who gave a really neat show with his trick horses after the ride. On the safari jeep tour, we tipped the guide and the people who made the lunch. It probably sounds like a lot of people, but all of those excursions were great and I thought they earned it.
