SERIOUSLY - has our family the 'Magic" to ourselves on 6th August 2011 Med cruise???

I'm in the midst of packing and am very overwhelmed. Does anyone know if the character breakfast is on the day at sea? Thanks in advance!

Hey I can only speak to last years 8 night Med repo and our character breakfast was on our last sea day - actually the day before we disembarked from memory. Kids enjoyed it. Plenty of photos and autographs.

Anyone have a suggestion for converting some US dollars to Euros for spending money on the trip?
thanks,
Randi

Hey Randi

Not sure how your bank cards work. I know last time I was in Chicago I just used my normal bank card in an ATM and withdrew $$ straight out of our current/checking account.

I have done the same in Disneyland Paris - got Euros out of the ATM in the Disneyland Park and my own bank.

Not sure if that is any help or if it works for Americans travelling here, I just know I have done it travelling the other way across the Atlantic to you guys!

I use my ATM card, but be sure to check with your bank regarding its foreign transaction fee (can be as high as 3%). Some US banks have ATMs overseas which charge no fee to use - the transaction % is still added.

I have an account with USAA and they have a 1% transaction fee.

Check with your bank.

Hi guys,
How much do we spent AND do we give gifts to everyone in the stateroom?

Hey Melody

Not sure what the answer to this question will be. I'm guessing we will all have spent a different amount. I will be delivering gifts for everyone in the room but whether the husbands wlll actually get or want theirs might be a different story - but I am hoping the mums and kids will make use of the goodies. As for how much I have spent - I haven't actually worked it out! Don't get me wrong, its hasn't been a forture, I've made use of some offers online but at the end of the day, its not the value, its the thought that has went into planning the gifts. For all Disney fans among us hopefully I will have chosen well. I'll love whatever you get us no matter the cost.

Anyone else wish to through in their answers so I know whether my assumptions are correct????

Can you believe its getting soo close.......... I'm going to be on such a downer when its all over - made worse by the fact that the Magic isnt back in the Med next year, boo hoo.

I am good with gifts only for the kids. They are really the reason for me for the exchange. I had the same question about how much to spend. I also have to consider how much I can pack and what they weigh.

Should we say no more than $5 or $10 at the most (convert to your own currency). I know I like to go overboard sometimes so it will help me if we have a limit.

Thanks,
Mertz

Great ideas but too late for me - I've got all my FE gifts done. I think everyone should just do what they feel comfortable with.

Hey Michelle

There were no hard and fast rules for our FE exchange. I've only done it once before and if this time is like the previous then people do what works for them. Some folk are very creative, others give gifts specific to their country. Some keep to Disney themed ideas and still others come up with their own individual ideas. Whatever you have planned - go with it. I'm sure for the kids the surprise and excitement will be the same no matter the cost - kids like gifts, period (thats my experience anyway!).

Looking forward to meeting you all soon.

My mum said to me this evening - "Is it next Friday we go? I would need to be getting organised" - considering we booked at the start of February shes had long enough to get herself sorted! My kids are all away at a sleepover on Saturday night so I am going to have the house to myself from teatime and plan to get 80% of the stuff into the cases, fingers crossed!

The threads got very quiet, is everyone else busy packing and not getting time to post????????

If anyone is out there tell the rest of us how excited the kids in your house are getting.......

Yes, the board has gotten very quiet. Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I have been out of commission. I went to a Dr's appointment on Friday and just got home today! Ended up in the hospital....telling any Doc or Nurse that would listen that I had 7 days to get better and get out, there was a Disney Cruise hanging in the balance (and two possibly very disappointed boys)!

I was discharged this afternoon....and we leave in only 48 hours! So all is well (lol). Just trying to make some last minute adjustments to reservations.....like needing a fridge for medication.

Thank goodness I was somewhat prepared ahead of time....I now have one day to get ready. I am sending the boys off to daycare tomorrow and putting my head down and finishing my FE's, packing and figuring out what I have missed!

Hope everyone is doing well. Can't wait to see all of you and Mickey!

Oh my goodness Heather, I'll bet you WERE telling the Dr's and nurses about your cruise - they'd have had to tie you to the bed to keep you in hospital when you are soo excited about getting away on your holidays!! I hope you are well enough to enjoy your time in England with family before you make it to Barcelona.

Definitely on the count down now! Only a few more days in work. Then need to get the packing well underway at the weekend and some Euros sorted. I have put american dollars on my prepaid credit card so dont have that to worry about. I am trying to budget for the photos CD from shutters - I am a photo-holic and will take loads of my own but love the professional Disney ones too (except the ones with me in!!!!).

Right, its 1am here and I have work in the morning!

Night everyone

MrsMac

We are getting very excited here too! My 15 year old dd was with her grandparents in California going to a surfing camp, and apparently all she talked about was the cruise! Silly girl. My 4 year old is excited too, she keeps saying "we need to pack babydoll, and my princess costumes, and my princess shoes, and a crown, and and and" pretty much everyday. We are flying into Barcelona the day before so I am ready for next Friday to get here! This weekend we're having a housewarming party (we just moved), and then we'll go do some touristy stuff local on Sunday, just to fill the time. I'm determined to NOT pack until next week, as the suitcases sitting there full will make me batty with anticipation!

Question: How many formal nights on this cruise?

I will be buying for everyone!
There is just 1 formal night on then cruise with 2 semi formal xxxx
We are EXCITED.com!

We have a London leg first, so we're leaving in a few days! Crazy busy, very excited ... Did we ever determine where we can meet up? I'd just hate to not get to meet people after posting all these months! Maybe at the Goofy Pool after boarding in the mid afternoon? I just wish we knew the schedule better...

By the goofy pool mid afternoon sounds great - how will we all know each other - apart from looking like stalkers eyeing other passengers up!!!! Can you just imagine it! Remind me again who all is in your party Roberta? Just to save me going back through all the thread!

I'm sure you are looking forward to London. I hope the weather lets you do all the sightseeing you want to.

Let me know how to spot you all!!

It was so wonderful tonight to read all the updates and how excited everyone is. I'm jumping for joy (inside only of course) that one week from now we will be on a plane flying over the ocean to Europe. We arrive in Barcelona Friday noon and I just can not wait!

Mid-afternoon goofy pool sounds perfect. I agree that it would be good to have a way to know each other - what about everyone wearing a blue wristband/hairband or something like that?

Heather: really sorry you were in the hospital and here's good wishes and a hug across the ocean that all is ok with you now and especially for the cruise :)

My 6 yo DD is excited but the cruise also means the end of summer camp here and she is a bit sad about that. I just cannot believe how fast this summer has passed.

Empty suitcases are lined up in our front hallway as I don't know which we'll need - but no packing until Wednesday for me although I will admit I've got a "cruise corner" shelf in our library/office that has a pile that has grown over the past months.

Did you all set up for Mickey to call your children before the cruise? I saw it on the website and set up for Mickey to call my dd on Sunday morning. Cool idea if you haven't done it yet.

Go to your reservation on the disney website and there's a link to it.

bye for now,
Randi

1 hour and counting....

We are off to the airport in an hour. Finished my FE gifts this afternoon and the packing is done.

See everyone at the Goofy pool mid-afternoon. My plan is to find Jude (I know what her girls look like from the pictures) and hopefully find the rest of you!

See you all in a week!

Can't wait:banana:

I'll be easy to spot, I'm very fair with short red/blonde hair, I have a 15 year old daughter that looks almost exactly like me, and my 4 year old daughter is Korean. If my husband is with us his left leg is a prosthetic. Y'all should have no trouble spotting my crazy family!:lmao:
