Seriously considering buying this month at AKV, but have a question

To me the incentives to buy at AKV looks great. We are taking a 10 night trip in 11 days. I want to make an appointment with our guide to buy. I even have DH talked into it! But I read in a thread that these weren't that great of incentives and people should wait until Dec. or Jan. to buy from Disney or do a resale. What does everyone think? I think the 160 points at SSR, 160 2008 points and the 160 points 2009, with no dues until May 2009, and the $10 discount doesn't sound bad.

Should we buy now or wait? We have gone back and forth or this decision for years and I thought we had finally made it, but now not so sure.

Recent reports suggest that SSR will be selling out within the next few months and may not be available with any incentives by the end of the year. None of the sold out resorts presently have incentives even though they are still available thru DVC directly.

AKV will likely be selling for a much longer period of time, but no one knows whether the current incentives will be extended or replaced or when the next price increase will be made (it's been over a year since the price has been changed).

Good luck beating the present deal. When there's a better one (or if there's ever been a better one comparatively and proportionally speaking), I'd like to see it.

I bought this deal a month ago and have no regrets whatsoever. Already booked my incentive trip for the first week of Dec at SSR.

Frankly, I think waiting until later in the year to buy AKV will be a huge gamble if you are thinking you might get a better incentive. I think the current incentives are good, and the price always goes up. As Doc said, we haven't had a price increase for a year, so it's time.

I booked mine this past Monday for 11/30-12/5. Had no problems whatsoever. Since it was an incentive based booking, it's still sort of in "limbo" while they do all the special paperwork involved but I have been assured that my room is done and reserved.

We'll see. They said it should be official 15 days from Monday and I'd get my confirmation paperwork then.

Thanks! I was thinking it was a really good incentive. Plus, we always wait and guess what????? It has gone up in price so much since we started looking. I believe they were selling VWL. Wish I'd listened to my gut then!

We were thinking the first week in December too. You have any problems getting in?

The first and second week of December are extremely popular this year. (This may be normal but this is my only experience since I bought at in May of last year.) There is at least 1 night (12/7) with very little availability. AKV is completely sold out for that night plus most of the other resorts are full. I ended up moving my reservation over to SSR because I could get a 1 BR there for 12/7. I am not trying to scare you off, I just wanted to let you know in case you are thinking about December of this year. You may need to waitlist in order to get a room for some nights.

We just booked last weekend for Dec. 8-12 at SSR. When I called MS told me that there was one studio left at SSR and one left at OKW. This is our first trip as members so I booked the SSR studio because I wan't in the 7 month window for OKW. We're very excited about going. We were at WDW three weeks ago when it was so cold so we figure early December couldn't much worse!
