Serious Matter -- Daughter's Account Robbed

Hi! I hope to get some information from someone. My daughter's entire account and contents were robbed from VMK this afternoon. She sent a note to the account administrator, who basically brushed her off and told her that it was not their problem. This is a young person who has been a player for over a year and now her entire account with contents are gone, even her inferno. We had made plans to visit Disney World this June and now she does not want anything to do with Disney because of this incident. She was robbed and the administrator of VMK will do nothing to restore her account.

How can I get her account restored and possibly find out who stole her stuff.

Would appreciate any help because she is very upset.

My suggestion is for you as the parent- to send the message to VMK and explain what happened-

There may be nothing they can do- because someone found a way to access her account

There have been individuals going around scamming people by offering special things like inferno, blue ears and other items but ask for the individual's account information first- claiming they are siblings of staff members or whatever...

Do you know if your daughter uses public computers to access VMK or if she chats on IM or is an active participant in any of the boards- or does she have any real life friends who may have gotten her access information (I know my dd always shares that stuff and shouldn't) those are all ways someone may have gotten account information from her...

Did you use the contact us on the VMK main page or the button in the game?


Also there has been a rash of these scams happening and your child may have fallen victim to one of them.


Please see the warnings posted here on the forums and do a search for the other threads on this they may help you.

They are also asking on IM what seem to be innocent questions...

Do you have any pets?
What are their names?
what is your favorite color?

etc...they already have what is probably the email you used to set up the account and her user name they just need password access.

If so, VMK is not likely to do anything for her because it is against their policy to share your password. (http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/help/index?name=SafetyVMKWayPage)

You do have the consolation of knowing that they will ban the person who scammed her.

I'm sorry if this did happen to your daughter. It is an awful thing for a kid to experience theft. Please let us know what happens.

Is there anybody else in the house that plays vmk? Your browser may store the passwords so that anybody with access to the computer could log in as her.

Can you figure out what caused her account to be compromised? Giving specific information to VMK might help.

Maybe if you want to post a list on the trade board of some of the things she lost we as a community can help out.

It will be impossible to replace it all or to probably erase the injustice of it but we can all do what we can.

check again tommorow it may not be all gone, their were major problems with vmk today, double check again, then never give out passwords , i had this happn to my son, he gave someone claiming to be staff

anyway a good talk about internet safty will help.

That is really awful! I'm so sorry that she lost everything. As stated, if you can find out any details as to how it happend, VMK could help.

Also, please note what charstar said, It might actually be back tomorrow. Who knows.

But if that does not happen, please feel free to do what LisaInNc said. Make a post in the trade forum and I'm sure there will be some DISers step up to help replace some things.

coachman - check your daughter's account again today. Yesterday, VMK was having all sorts of problems. In fact, when I logged in again after my character disconnected, she had absolutely NOTHING in her inventory - no pins, no furniture, no clothing!!! I am just assuming it was a glitch, though now you have me wondering.... But I have never given out my log in information so I couldn't have been "robbed". (but I'm waiting for 10:00 EST so I can log in real quick to double check!!) Hopefully, your daughter has not either, and that this was just some sort of weird bug happening yesterday on VMK. Please let us know today!! If she was really robbed, we can all try to replace as many of her things as possible...

well the first thing you should do is changeing your dauters password by

going on https://secure.disney.go.com/disney....com/disneyland/en_US/home/home?name=HomePage and log in with her reagular vmk account.

once you do that click on My Vacation Then Click On My Profile than Update My Profile and one you typed in the new password click on save.

And Once you changed the password it will be her vmk password.

I Think you should write the letter to vmk not your dauter and mabey they will listen to you.

Well, there isn't anything anyone can do. Just hope for her that she can recover some stuff by possibly some nice frineds who would want to give it. P.S.: It is impossible for her to have played over a year, VMK did not come until May.

Yeah, I'm with this theory. It's happened to me, and boy did I freak out soooo bad. Thats my advice, so just check again. Then we can assume the worst.

The same thing happened to my niece. We think we figured out what happened. She played VMK at her friend's house during a sleepover. She probably had her password stored in the computer. We suspect her friend's older brother "robbed" her of most of her belongings. He was spotted in VMK wearing a sea gull hat all of a sudden. That hat was one of her favorite VMK posessions. Can we absolutely prove it? Probably not. We just have to chalk it up to a hard lesson learned.

I'm not sure if this applies, but is anyone here familiar with VMK Pal? I heard about it but I don't know what it is. It sounds like it's a program that interfaces with VMK. My guess is that it isn't provided by or sponsored by VMK. I don't want to jump to any conclusions but I do wonder if this program saves sign on information, thus becoming a weak link in the privacy chain.

Yes, VMK Pal does have a sign on password store capability, but you can
opt out of that if you want. If she used a computer that had VMK Pal
set to storing passwords, then I can see it happening.
