Serious Computer Help Needed

I don't have another PC at home. Money is an issue....but if I don't find the backup discs to my pictures it isn't anymore. What you guys have suggested is over my head though......I'm willing to try anything though.

if at all possible, take your time to relax, figure out a game plan with great help from the folks here. then go at it at your pace.

you can also go buy a new antivirus software package at a local store (support your local businesses and stimulate the economy, hehehehehee). then when you start the computer with the CD/DVD in the drive, it will take over before the computer fully starts and will scan with your prompts.

that should eliminate the problem of the computer rebooting during downloads or online scans.

Don't panic and start reformatting if you do not have everything backed up. It's not like your computer is going anywhere. you have time to figure this out.

See if you can do an online scan directly from the Trend Micro website. They have fixed many problems for me. They are also free. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Also try in in Safe Mode if you can. There is an option that lets you be in Safe Mode and run your networking (Internet) connection.

If that doesn't work, try registering and asking the compu-geeks at Fatwallet.com Computer forum here: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/computers/299439

Make sure you follow the instructions about giving the brand & model of your computer and all the specs.

Have you attemtpted System Restore? I'm not talking about a wipe of your hard disk. This takes the computer back to a specified date (you pick) when the popup did not exist. The only drawbacks are:

a: It is not a guarantee to work, but it works more often than not, and

b: Not every day is selectable to go back to (when you run it, you'll see which days are available), and

c: Anything installed since the day you select would have to be reinstalled, as System Restore resets the Windows Registry back to that date.

Find out more here.

My husband had a similar virus last week, and we have AVG loaded and I also ran Adaware and Hijack This and they did nothing. We ended up downloading Malwarebytes (free from Cnet.com), and that finally got rid of it.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone! I finally gave up last night and just turned the stupid thing off. I'm not in a hurry.....well I'd like my computer back, but more importantly I want to make sure I have everything. I did try a system restore and it didn't work. I even tried a system restore in safe mode and it didn't work either. I will definitely try some of these other things tonight or tomorrow....the computer isn't going anywhere.
