September 29, 2012 - Ropin' Some Magic in the Western Caribbean

I was wondering if we got luggage tags. That's pretty much the only luggage tags we have-Disneyland...Disney World...Disney Cruise! :)

Maybe I should ask...Do they come from Disney or the travel agent? I booked straight through Disney, but they've always sent me luggage tags every time I booked a vacation with them.

These are not luggage tags that you will use permanently like the WDW ones. These are like airline luggage tags. They send them so when you arrive by air Disney can retrieve your bags and take them to the ship. If you don't want Disney taking them from the airport then don't put them on until you are ready to check in at the port.

My grand kids are going to WDW tomorrow and they got the coolest luggage tags... in 3D! I so wanted one... wish DCL would issue carry on tags like that.

We are homeschooling this year. DD is in 1st grade. We started last week and having a great time. My SIL homeschools her two as well.

I would love to have a home schoolers chat on the ship :) We have my daughter (kinder) in a split 2 day a week classroom 3 day a week homeschool situation and this is my first homeschool attemp. I would love to learn from you more experienced moms.

Mine is starting Kindergarten... so instead of pulling her out for 8 days, only pulling her out for 5 since she only goes 3 days a week. Starting to wonder if we are the only ones that DON'T homeschool on this cruise :P

Don't feel that way at all.. We are actually doing both right now. My oldest boys (9 & 7) are in 4th and 2nd at a traditional public school. My daughter (4) is in private school because she was too younger to go to kinder and too advanced not to go so we have her in a school that does group classes twice per week and homeschool 3 times per week. My 4 yr old son (her twin) was not ready for school and is going into mothers day out. :grouphug:

Hi Cruising5 - sorry I was off Disboards for awhile and I'm trying to catch up. Glad to see older kids in this group. My kids aren't homeschooled but are on Fall Break for two weeks so this is our favorite time to vacation!! Yeah, Belton isn't that far away; we live in Pflugerville just north of Austin. Are you driving the day of the trip or going to Galveston early??

Hi Kimmy!
I am playing catch up too. Since the surgery its hard to type but I felt like I was missing too much fun! We are up in Georgetown just north of you. Nice to see some more locals.

Well I was TOLD she would only be going MWF, BUT now I find out she's in school full time :P Ah well.

Hi there! Just came upon this forum and joined. We have had this Disney cruise booked since the first day it came available in early 2011! Can't believe it's only a month away now!

Just learned about the FE, sounds so fun! I've added our names to the list!

See ya'll soon!

We have a lot planned for this cruise. You got in just under the wire for the FE latecomers group. Just sign up on the bottom of this page:

You can also sign up for cruise bracelets in the far right columns. They will be $4 and are specially designed for this cruise.

We are also having a Beauties and Beasts champagne and beer tasting for the adults.

Our DisMeet is in the Promenade Lounge at 3 p.m. on the first day of the cruise. We will get to know each other and let others know if room numbers have changed (which they sometimes do until the time of sailing.)

Welcome to our group.

Piper - thank you for the information. What do the wrist bands look like?

Also - the fe thing sounds fun but before I commit I want to be sure I understand just what it is and what it is for? Are we responsible for placing goodies in the bags of all the people on the list under the "latecomers" section? I dont want to do it "wrong":sad2: if I am committing to it. This is our first so any info anyone can provide would be appreciated - thanks

Welcome! Here's what you do... put your names/cabin number on the latecomer's part of the list... then you make/buy/create gifts for the other cabins/people in the latecomer group and they will make/buy/create something for your cabin...basically a gift exchange. Some people provide one gift per cabin, and some people provide one gift per person... I am in the latter group... I am giving one gift per person but that is up to you to choose (if you join).

As for the FE itself, it can be anything... most people use canvas shoe holder like thingys with pouches or make their own... I took an easy route, went to Hobby Lobby, bought 3 little black purses and we decorated them as that's the limit of my creativity :P

There is also a wine/beer tasting group and pre/post cruise reports... a meet and greet the day we embark...not sure what the wristbands look like, I believe Faithfullyeeyore is ordering those. :)

A homeschooler chat sounds like a good idea! I'm sure we could plan something for an at sea day. The dining rooms aren't very busy at lunch time. I think most people go to the buffet. Maybe we could meet up for a homeschooler lunch??? That could give us a chance to sit and talk.

I've only been on a 3 nt. cruise and the dining rooms were practically empty during lunch. Someone who's been on a 7 nt....is it that way on the 7nt too? Not sure how long they are open for lunch. Maybe we could do a late lunch when there's not a crowd.

I'm just throwing ideas out there...any other homeschoolers interested??

Oh, ok...thanks for clearing that up. I was thinking the cool permanant ones because that's what we've gotten in the past when we went to DL and WDW. I hosted a Disney Cruise house party a couple of years ago and one of my hostess gifts was 3 Disney cruise luggage tags. They are shaped like Mickey heads and have the names of 3 of the ships. (The fantasy wasn't out then.) We got really cool 3D Disneyland ones last September when we went there and we still have our WDW ones from our vacation in 2009. So, you can see that I don't really NEED anymore...I just like opening that package and seeing them! :)

I'm in. Sounds like fun!

Ran across this site today. It has menus for the specialty meals like the Pirate dinner and Character breakfast. I haven't seen those on the Disney website.

The link is doing something weird when I post it. I've edited several times and can't get it to work. The ******** are taking the place of "disney cruiser . info " if you want to just type it in. :)

Homeschool chat sounds great!

Isaac is making a track right over our home. :( So glad that I am not there, but it will still be a long night of watching this play out.

I have a question. This is our first Disney Cruise and I was wondering if children are able to order from the regular menu? Or if they are limited to the "children's menu"? My daughter will be age 4 while on the cruise and we don't normally feed her "kiddy" food i.e.: nuggets, pizza, fries...etc.

Everytime we visit All-inclusive resorts and go to the specialty restaurants, we order off the menu for her... I guess we can share but that seems silly.

Thanks!

Kids can order off the adult menu and adults can order off the kid menu.... ;) it's all cool with them. Sometimes my kids will order off both!

Awsome! I don't want her to spend the week eating mac n' cheese :)
