I am planning a Disneyland trip from Sept 9th through the 15th. It's been a little difficult for a few reasons. First of all, there are four of us total but 3 of us are flying out from PDX and one from OKC. We are four adults looking for two rooms in an economy hotel that is somewhat close. I kind of like the Menage hotel, has anyone stayed there? Also, if possible we'd like to use a military discount but I think the only one available is expiring in June. Where should I start with my planning?

Yes, the Salute to the Armed Forces expires June 12th. But, you can go to your MWR/ITT office and get discounted tickets. Most, if not all, hotels (including the DL resorts) have military discounts on their rooms. When booking your hotel, check on how far it is from the parks. Sure the rate is great but is the distance worth it? Shuttle or no shuttle, do you want to hassle with it? I highly suggest going to your commissary and stocking up on what ever you can fit in your suitcase that doesn't require refridgeration.

These boards have helped me tremendously on planning our family trip to DL. You are in good hands!!!

Hi, Luverly, my favorite hotel is HoJo, which is closer than Menage. It's one block up from the park entrance. HoJo is a favorite on these boards because of their Entertainment book rate, which is $59-79 a night on certain dates. I just checked, and the Ent rate is available for every night of your stay. This is the best deal on Harbor. It's the nicest hotel available at that rate within walking distance! Here's the link with the dates and more info: http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14

To get the Ent rate, you need to call the hotel directly at (714) 776-6120, and ask for IN HOUSE reservations (not the national reservation line; they can't help you with the Ent rate). Call between 9-5 Mon-Fri, pacific time. Jennifer or Lorealle will help you. You don't need an Entertainment book to book the rooms; you'll just need to show the card when you check in. If you don't have a book or a card, you can order it online-- in fact, the cards are available by themselves on e-bay for just a few bucks.

Menage is nice from what I've heard, but it's too far to hike. I mean, it's do-able, but you will already be tired at the end of the day. HoJo is a 7 minute walk, and even it looks SOOOOO far down the street at the end of the night! Menage is a good half-mile or more farther.

Check around a little on the boards, here, a few pages back; there's been some reviews and pictures of HoJo that people have posted lately.

Hope that helps! :)

We are going around the same time too. 9/11-16. We ended up with a Kids suite since there are 3 adults, 2 children, 1 toddler, 1 infant in our group. If you are a member through costco, check their website. Also Getawaytoday.com has great deals too. We are staying at the Portofino Inn & Suites which is about 1/2 mile away, they have online specials too if you got to their website and click on e-specials. I heard Desert Inn is also very close. Definitely check HOJO too.

That does help a lot! Will they ask for any sort of a card number when I call?

Nope, they don't ask for a thing when you call to make the reservations. Just ask for the Entertainment rate. All they want is to get a gander of the card when you check in; they don't even take down the number or anything. In fact, I got the impression when I checked in, that if I hadn't said, "oh, you'll want to see this," and flashed the card at them, they weren't going to ask for it. The guy just said, "Oh, yeah, ok, thanks." :)

In order to secure your room you need to provide a credit card number - but they don't charge it. And if you want you can use a different card when you actually get there - I have done this before and it is just fine.

Unless you were asking about the Ent. card number and then ... Never mind!
