Sept Rebel Alliance - Back to the Jedi Academy

Saturday was a great day (for me). I did my last day of Week 1 of C25K and was still feeling good after that so I decided to walk some more. I ended up walking another 4 miles and doing it at about 4.7mph. That is GREAT for me! So I was happy. It is awesome how great a good day out wogging can make me feel!

Welcome Back Diane!

Hi everyone! Glad to hear everyone is doing well and out there moving. You're inspiring me.

This weekend I did 3 miles Sat morning and 4 miles Sunday night. I know I broke the rule of taking a day off in between but with this "great storm" we were having up here I had to get some activity in when I could. BTW, the great storm was nothing. Some drizzle and colder than normal.

Question- Last night when I got back I felt like I had done about 1000 crunches. My abs were tight and really felt worked. This morning I have that post workout soreness in my abs. I have never experienced this before. While I love that I felt like I had really worked my core, it was surprising. Is it possible that I have adjusted my form? Is this a good thing?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Feeling it in your abs is a good thing.. at least i think so! It means your core is getting stronger now and you'll need it on those longer routes!

Manda.. Yay for the progress!!! You're rocking that walking time!!

As for me, I did a spinning class this morning, yesterday I went to the Seahawks game (ugh.. they lost horribly) but I took all the stairs and walked a ton around the stadium). :)

Thanks Suzann! I'm excited to know I'm getting stronger.

Anyone have any other recommendations for running books? I read marathon for mortals (and refer to it almost daily), but I'm looking for some other suggestions to teach me more.

Happy to say I got some more miles in yesterday. Only 3, but I was happy with those. I did W2D1 of C25K and I am still feeling pretty good about it. I added an extra walking mile on the end just to increase the time I am moving.

Suzann - Sorry about your Seahawks. No fun to go to the game when they lose. That is why I just watch my team lose from the comfort of my couch:laughing:

Good evening,
It is back to reality (which means work) after 3 weeks of vacation. It was the best vacation in Florida. But I am not sure that I could live there during the summer: it was so hot.
I really liked doing Disney' Race for the Taste. Running through the parks was the best but I was a bit disappointed by my time. I know it was hot and humid but I think I have found what happened. I was hoping to run around 72 minutes so I was in the 11:00 to 13:00 minutes at the start. But not even 2 minutes after crossinig the start line, I was stuck behind people who were already walking. I think I spend too much energy going around people who were walking so I have decided that in January I will take it slow and easy and enjoy the fact that I am at Disney. I can imagine what it will look like with 22,000 persons. So instead of stressing I will relax.
12 weeks left before Donald and the training is going ok as I am doing my long runs. I did 12k on Saturday, 5k on Monday and 4k today. Tomorrow is a day of rest.

Diane

I am out of my head in taper madness and work craziness right now. I had an awful 2 miler this morning, but I know that a bad run before a race can sometimes be a good omen to a great race. Fingers crossed.

Katie - I'm sure it will work out. Best of luck to you.

Heading back out tonight for a short run - 35 minutes. This week got crazy with work. so I'm a bit behind and juggling days around. Trying to do another short run on Sat and then I have a 5k on sunday as my long run. Supposed to to 4 miles so might just do the 5k at training pace and then put another mile on around the park afterwards.

The weather here is amazing. So can't miss the opps to run really.

Had a better 2 miler this morning. My Garmin was dead so I went out without it and just did what I wanted to do. Came back stretched some and headed off to work. Two rest days and then it is race day. Heading to the expo tomorrow.

Went out of town for a couple of days.. but did lots of walking around (including the zoo!!!) Sounds like everyone is doing well!!

Diane~ Glad to hear the RffT went well.. its ok about your time.. you're going to rock it in the Donald!

Bonsoir,
I am getting ready, mentally, for my long run saturday morning. It will be a
13k at the bike trail. It also will be my longest run of the year. It is supposed to be rainy and windy so it should add to the fun.

Katie- Good luck this week-end.

To all- Have a nice week-end.

Diane

 My long run of the week is done and it went good. It was 38F, cloudy but no rain and no wind so I am pretty pleased. Now I will relax for the rest of the week-end and watch some football.
Monday, I begin to add hills in my training starting with 3.

Diane

Katie - What a great blog! You really keep it real. And I love that you really focus on what an accomplishment it really is, regardless of kinks in the day.

Here's a funny story - yesterday i did a 5k that i have walked with my friends for 6 years. I planned to do the 5k as a training run, and run back to get them for the last mile to meet my 4 miles. Well, we got there 20 minutes late and missed going off with everyone else. Oh well, it's for charity and I'm not doing this for time. So I go and start to do the course, about a mile in i realize they reversed the course this year and the runners are coming at me. :scared1: Oh well - I continued on my backwards journey, met up with my friends about 2.5 in and walked back with them to the end. Not how what I had imagined. We kind of just laughed at the whole thing. Everything was going wrong, ipod was skipping, garmin was not picking up a satellite and there's me running the wrong way. Oy!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Oh no Jane! LOL I can't even imagine what I would do if I had done that.

Bonsoir,
Well, I have started doing hills work and I have done 3 today and it wasn't too bad: we will see how I like them when I have to do 9 :rotfl:.
Katie- I have read your race report and what an accomplishment. Congratulations.
Jane- Your story remind me when I was young (a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away) I was doing competition in combined events ( with my horse :upsidedow ) and the first cross country course I did, I was lost in the wood and arrive on the wrong side of a jump. I can tell you that after that, when I was walking a cross-country course I was paying attention.
This week is an easy week with a 6.4k run tomorrow.

Diane

Hi All. I am back from the funk. I have started week 2 over on the C25K, because I slacked off so much the week before. So, I am back, and hopefully doing better.

bonsoir,
Another month is over and I am pretty pleased with my mileage for the month: 65 miles. I did use the spreadsheet for the month of october. 10 more weeks and I will be in Orlando to do my dream race. And the training is going well.
Tomorrow I have a 14k to do.

Diane

Glad to hear that everyone's training is going well right now. Got out this weekend for an 8 miler. Tried to keep the pace down so as not to injure myself. I was afraid to take too much time off as I have Goofy right around the corner. Did end up icing my knee some yesterday but it is feeling pretty good today.

I did my hill work this morning: 4 hills done. I have to get up to 9 in my training program and it will not be fun. I just hope it will help me in January.

Tomorrow is a day off because I will receive my new refrigerator (the old one died this week-end after 14 years and 2 months of loyal service) and the Sears guy is coming to repair my snowblower  : I have to be ready for the snow. I have already put my winter tires.

I am now watching the New York marathon; it sure is better than watching the news.

Diane
