:cheer2: :cheer2: Good news from Miami!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Michele and her family are fine after Wilma blew threw. :umbrella: :umbrella: :umbrella: They finally have power back. Michele says there is no gas and some people still have no power. Michele is busy protecting their city and working 12 hour shifts without any time off.

Glad to know your safe. Post when you can, Michele!!!

Yeah! That is great news!

Thoughts and prayers are with you Michele while you are working helping Miami!

I'm so glad to hear that Michele is OK. I just talked to a friend a few hours ago that lives right where the eye went over. She said that they don't have power, and won't for several weeks. Her home faired pretty well this year, they only lost one lamppost (but that's because they had to rebuild a lot from last year's hurricane season, so everything is up to code now). She's heading up to Lakeland (1/2 way between Tampa & Orlando) until they get power restored. Her DH works for the city, so he's been working in the Emergency Management Offices since this all started. He's off until Sunday, so he's taking off to Lakeland too.

I just received another jury summons in the mail. The last one came for when we were on the cruise. They sure didn't waste any time recalling me.

This time for 11/22. Unfortunately, other than having to close my business, I don't have a good excuse not to go. I think Gary still has 1 vacation day coming and I still have 1 personal day. It's downtown, could be worse as to the location I'm assigned.

I've been called repeatedly since Cameron was little. I've always been able to get out of it saying I'm home with my child and have no daycare. For a Tuesday, that's true for Walker. But, I'm feeling that my luck is about to run out and next time I'll get assigned to a location I'm not willing to go. Then what am I going to do? Hope for another excuse?

It's not that I'm adverse to going. It's just going downtown by myself that's scary to me. And, finding the Daley Center. I've been there a million times with Gary, but I've always just walked with Gary, never had to do it on my own. Getting on the train, I can handle. I suppose Gary can always walk me through it and draw me a map.

Gosh, what to do? :scratchin

Ok that bag with "no name" is hilarious! :rotfl2:

Cindy - I used to work right by the Daley plaza and you will be fine during the day! Tons of people around all the time and many will walk from the train. Hopefully you will be excused.

I was wondering - what do your daycare kids do when you take time off?

Bummin'
I've been lucky so far. It seems like everytime I would get one I would just be getting out of the hospital with some major surgery and was under doctor's care or wasn't allowed to drive.
The one time I didn't have that excuse they never made it to mu number on the list.
I was subpheoned once but luckily the case was dropped!

Yea what happens to your "kids" if you have to go?

Jury Duty--I know it's a hassle and a pain in the butt. But I've been called for jury duty twice in my life and managed to make it on the jury both times. I guess I should take it as a complement that I'm so open minded. I've told everyone dreading jury duty this--It was the single best experience I've had in my life. The process itself is truly fascinating and you learn so much! My first trial was a statuatory rape case, not guilty--lack of evidence...that lasted only a few days. My second trial was a gang related murder trial that lasted 8 weeks! :earseek: Aside from seeing autopsy photos :scared: the whole ballistic evidence was amazing. I felt life I was in real life law and order. The kid got 66 years to life. I think about it all the time, how I helped keep someone like that off the streets for life. How's that for a pep talk! But I will tell you this much, if they even think you are trying to get out of it....you'll definitely get picked. I saw it with my trials. I know it's an inconvencie and scary to go to places like that, but I always think what if someone I knew or loved was on trial....I'd want a juror like Cindy on the jury! :rotfl2:

Hitting the road once again gang. :moped: I will be on my way to Delaware to spend a few fun days with sis to celebrate birthdays and then down to NC once again for the last of ds' stuff. Wish I could say I'm going to Disney World but not this time - but.... I will be able to say that right after Thanksgiving! I so need a trip back home to my DVC again - this will help the time pass for me, I guess. See ya soon - and I hope I can keep up with all the posting I'm sure you'll be doing while I'm gone. :moped:

Now, that's the way to think of it. I've been called to jury 4 times. Twice it was while I was in college, so I was in FL and not IL at the time, so I got out of it. The next time was while I was living in IL. I was called to go to the criminal courts building in Chicago. Now, that was a scary place. But, there were lots of people around, so I felt ok. I spent all day there, and ended up not getting on a jury. The last time was here in FL. I went and they took people in groups. I was in the last group and they told us all that they had enough potential jurors and we could go home.

Chris has served on 1 jury when he was living in IL. He actually thinks that it's fun. He was the foreman and really enjoyed the process. He's sad that he hasn't gotten chosen to serve here in FL.

WOW! Diana, fascinating stories. But, hey, what's with the :rotfl2: smilie about me being on your jury. Hmmmm???

Gary thinks I should try and get out of it again. I'm afraid I'll jinx myself if I do. The "scary" place Amy mentioned, the criminal courts building, is where I don't want to go. I told Gary if I try and get out of it this time and draw that location next time, we'll really be in a pickle because I will make him take me down there. I'm leaning about doing it -- getting it out of the way. I really wouldn't mind, and I think I would be fascinated with the process too. Of course, if I really want to get out of it, I could tell my experience with lawyers and courts and how it cost us our first house trying to pay for all that. But, I know my luck, I'd get selected as one trying to get out of it.

It wouldn't be a problem for 1 day. Anything more than that and I'm certain it would be a inconvenience to my daycare parents as well as Gary. But, maybe going down and presenting that if I am called would be enough to send me on my way. I don't know.

As for my daycare kids, it's not like I never close. After all, I've been known to go on a vacation or two ;) (or three or four :teeth: ). I have 5 personal days written into my contract for exactly this type of thing. I don't use them on a whim, I use them when I need to......Cameron's surgery earlier this year, helping out at school for one of the kids, one of my kids being sick enough to make me close and just be a mommy for the day. Those kind of things. I still have 1 paid day coming to me so that's not an issue.

Of course, if I get sequestored, it would put a damper on our Thanksgiving plans. Diana, still planning on coming this way to escape the inlaws? I just might be put up at some hotel someplace downtown. OMG, I'd freak. How would I survive without my family for those days? It was tough enough to go to WDW. I can't even begin to imagine. :guilty:

Seriously though, just go....the chances of you actually getting picked are slim. Murphy's law states if you try to get out of it, you'll only get sucked deeper in...and be called to serve at a place you really don't want to serve. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be and if you do get picked someone needs you to be on that jury. Boy, I'm very inspirational tonight, aren't I.

AND, just so you know....the Schenectady Court House was no picnic to go to every day. Because it was a gang trial....the entire gang community came to court every single day, some "rooting" for this guy, some against. And they would fight outside every day. They'd sit on the courthouse steps and wait in the morning before court and then after. And there I was....all dressed up (because I still had to go to work during breaks) walking through the gang. Like I said, interesting experience.
