Well, I heard that they expect it to strengthen to a CAT 1 Hurricane by the time that it hits the FL coast. But, they are also saying that they models are all over the place. One shows that it will go across FL, and then run right up the WEST coast (which is NOT good for me).

My aunt is in Brooksville and I remember calling her last August. I hadn't thought about the idea that it might not have been the best time to call since they were under a hurricane watch. But, I could hear the panic in her voice as she was trying to tell me where they were evacuating too. I felt really bad, because that wasn't the reason I was calling it just happened to be bad timing on my part.

That was my only first hand experience with how it must feel to go through the experience.

Amy, stay safe! :goodvibes

Oh, I remember the drama!!!

Yes, Amy, stay safe!

My grandfather lives on that barrier island in West Palm Beach that got hit pretty bad last year. He also has a vacation home in Vero, that got hit even worse when the next storm hit. He has lived there almost 30 years and that was the first time he ever got a direct hit. It really was a bad year.

Isn't that a joke? I guess we're posting too much.

As long as they don't take our smilies away because of it. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It can get a little dicey sometimes. Last year, Charley was headed STRAIGHT for us. We boarded up the house and headed inland to Lakeland, where I have lots of friends and my MIL lives there. Anyway, we get to Lakeland and find out that they storm turned and was headed for Punta Gorda, where my aunt lives. Well, my mom calls my aunt and she had put up her hurricane shutters and the power was out, but she didn't evacuate. They had NO idea that they storm had turned and was headed their way. She was going to go open the garage and have a BBQ on the driveway. :earseek: Anyway, we're watching the storm (from Lakeland) and realize that now we have gone right into the path of the storm. And, there was nothing we could do, because the outer rain bands had started and we didn't want to drive home in it. So, we stayed and watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics. We never lost power at my friend's house, but we did lose the cable. Everyone that I knew was ok, but there was a LOT of damage. It was quiet scary! That's the closest that I've come to a hurricane.

Okay, I know Mary knows what I'm referring to, but who else has been on the DIS long enough to remember someone trainwreck of a cruise gone bad? :rotfl2:

Is she still around???

When we went on our Sept 2003 cruise, Hurricane Isabelle was approaching. On our cruise thread a few were discussing their concerns - for those that lived on the East coast and whether or not it would effect our cruise. Normal concerns and no one was getting overly worked up. She actually posted on our thread and told us that we had nothing to complain about - that we should try having our whole cruise cancelled. You can imagine how that went over.

They did change things around - we went to CC on Monday and Nassau on Tuesday. Wednesday was our sea day and the Captain told us we would be getting alot of movement after 11 PM (by the way the hurricane was hitting SC/NC at this time) and we were feeling it somewhere between the Bahamas and Florida. We rocked all night long!

WOW! Amy, that sounds really scary. Do the kids know what's going on at all and sense the tension? I'd be worried about them getting upset as well as us being upset.

I still can't believe that she posted on your thread!! What a JOKE!!! Whine, whine, whine. Like it was a personal attack on her and DCL did it just to mess with her vacation.

I remember being a kid and living in Staten Island near the beach there was a really bad hurricane, in the 80s, don't remember the name. I remember them coming down the street with a bullhorn yelling to evacuate. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, so I'm guessing kids don't have that fear?? Or I was a crazy kid?? I'm guessing the latter.

Aghhh slow down some of us are running :cool1: (ok my rendition of running) to catch up! Work is crazy right now so I can hardly jump on during the day and had to read about 15 pages tonight - lol.

Ok um psst - tell me the story on the ship too of the cruiser who was cancelled.

Well, Maddie was a baby, so she was clueless. But, it wasn't fun for me to have to worry about what I needed to take for the baby. As for Emily, she thought it was cool that we were putting boards up on the windows. Actually, because so many of the hurricane's came one after the other, we left up a lot of the boards, so we didn't have to put them back up again.
