We just returned from WDW and it was one of the most memorable stays that I have ever had and I have been going to WDW since I was 12 (August 1972)!

Everything started fairly normal. We headed out about 2:00 AM so we could get a better pick of rooms at Old Key West. This was our first DVC trip and we were really excited about going. We also had the meal plan and some very nice meals were eaten!

We started with a small breakfast from the counter at OKW, and then headed up to the studio, in building 64. The room was very nice and we had a nice view of a pond with a fountain from the deck and the spire over Spaceship Earth out the front. Very nice all around.

After settling in, we took a bus to MK for a nice quite day. No crowds, and walk-on on most rides. POTC is even more incredible than before! I love the Davy Jones effect!

In the afternoon, we returned to OKW to cool off in the pool. OKW has a very nice pool, a spa and a sauna in the lighthouse. The Mrs loved the slide!

Dinner was at Olivia’s and was also very nice. Our waiter was very attentive, and the food was quite nice.

After dinner we explored the resort a bit, but, that’s also when the trip got memorable. We were coming out of the store and walking toward the bus stop, when my knee collapse under me. I almost fell into a bush but made it to a bench. I did manage not to pass out, and all was ok after that, so I thought. We took the boat to Downtown Disney after that and my knee slowly got worse and worse. By the time we got back to OKW, my wife, who is only 5 foot (I am 6 foot) was having to almost carry me. The OKW people were wonderful and pulled out a wheelchair for me to use for the length of our stay. At this point we had two choices, to go home or to try to do what we could from the chair. We tried!

We went to EPCOT the next day. The Food and Wine festival was in full swing, and we threaded our way around the world. Never let it be said that Florida is flat! I never knew how hilly EPCOT was until we tried to get me around in that chair. We ate lunch at the Tangerine Café in Morocco and were quite pleased. Dinner was at Alfredo’s and by the time we were ready to go back to the room.

A quick vote made us decide that we would rent a ECV for the rest of the trip! We did AK next day and did quite well. The Mrs. got to be one of the photographers in Flights of Wonder and got video of the owl just about to crash into her. We had dinner at Le Cellier by way of the boat from MGM, where we ran into fellow DisBoarder Travelling Tigger. She had a green badge and I had a Home Depot Chip on my hat.

The next day was MK and the Halloween party! Crowds were again minimal and we walked (rode) into almost everything. The Halloween party was VERY fun and we had some great interaction with the characters at the Liberty Tree for supper and at the Villain’s meet and greet in front of CK. The Villain’s Dance show was very strange, but, enjoyable all the same. Odd that Captain Hook and Maleficent were the stars of the show, and the Mrs. and I were dressed as CH and M. We got a great view of the Headless Horseman from the chair parking in front of the Hall of Presidents. The Boo to You Parade was also quite fun!

MGM the next day and we had a very nice time. We got a late start, but, got to hit most things, but, didn’t get to RRC or ToT. Such is life. I got some time with Mary Poppins and ran into the guy who use to do the magic show at the Diamond Horseshoe Review. We try to find him every time we go to MGM and found him in a Dating Show in front of the Villain’s shop on Sunset Blvd. We asked if he was going to be doing his card show that day. He wasn’t, but, he said he would find us before the Parade and we would get a special show (guess he felt compassion for my condition). It was quite fun! Later we wandered around the park for a bit and before you knew it, the park was clear of people. I guess they all went to Fantasmic. We went to the Commissary for dinner and it was empty!

Our last day was short as we had to drive home. We went to Downtown for some shopping and lunch (our last Counter service) at Wolfgang Puck’s.

The Mrs. had to drive us home (usually she sleeps), but, all was well. We drove on the beach at St. Augustine and made it home before too late.

It was a very good trip, but, having to see WDW from the four foot level when you are use to the six foot level, made it a whole new experience. I hope to never have that experience again!

Hey Conan! It was nice to meet you and your wife on the Friendship boat.

Glad to hear you were able to continue on with the rest of your trip despite your setback!!!
