Sept 2008- how bad have the love bugs been?

Anyone who just got home, can you tell us.... How bad were they? :confused3

So that's what they're called. We got back 9/12, and I thought they were bad. I had them mating on me while sitting at the pool :scared: . Of course DD10 had to point out the fact they were mating every time she saw some  .

FYI: We also had a small snake IN THE POOL!!! Lifeguard was very professional in handeling the situation. She said it doesn't happen very often...but it does happen. (We were at Pop) Guess we're lucky...it could have been an alligator!

Lovebugs are no problem except you might have to wipe them from your car. I seriously wouldn't worry about them. They don't bite. I've alway lived on the Gulf Coast and until last year, I had no idea other parts of the country are love-bug free! I found that pretty crazy!

When I was little everybody in school pulled them apart for fun. I've heard the reason there are two bugs attached is because the male dies after they mate. And the female just keeps flying around carrying the dead bug.
The lesson we learn from lovebugs? Men are only good for reproduction and then just dead weight. Joking guys, just joking!

I would be more concerned about the mosquitos! I live on the FL pandhandle, and they are pretty crazy! I can count at least 15 bites on my body.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I knew it!!!:lmao: :lmao:

Speaking of love bugs, I know they show up again in the spring, April/May. Does anyone know if this means April leading into May or simply any part of May or April? We were considering a trip around this time but not sure I want to deal with the bugs.

From what I've read, they aren't as bad in April/May as Sept. We visited the end of April/beginning of May several years ago and hardly noticed them.

They truely aren't that bad. I thought they were some kind of small firefly, as that's what they looked like. And they don't do anything but walk on you. Very easy to brush off.

I worry more about the Palmeto Bugs. They look like a HUGE COCKROACH! :guilty: I saw them squished all over the resort walkways. I wonder how many people actually think they are cockroaches and complain to the resort?

Oh my gosh...I just read 'Palmatto Bug' is the southern (Fancy) name of the American Cockroach!! :faint: They were HUGE!

Bug season in Florida is Sept-Oct and it's those slow flying black blobs that stick to the hood of your car so bad they can remove paint. It can look like black rain at times. :sad2: Sometimes 2 or 3 of them stick together and come crashing into you. Bug spray won't do a thing, they don't bite, just invade the state!

For the person that asked about bugs in April. We went mid-April 08 and didn't get a single bite. The only time I even pulled out a can of bug spray was at Chip and Dale's campfire sing-along. It's outdoors and on the campgrounds so we just sprayed it on to be safe.

Hope this helps!

We live locally and the love-bugs have not bothered us too much lately. And yes! - the locals call them "Palmetto Beetles" but they are really giant Cockroaches! YUK!

Just got back last night...we were there the 12th through the 19th. I only saw one set of lovebugs the whole time!

We stayed at one offsite resort (Gaylord Palms) and two on property - CBR and the Swan. No bed bugs of any type, happy to say. Any love bugs were of the sweet, two legged human type. :lovestruc :lovestruc

Just retruned from a 8 day trip and were very happy with the week we chose.

They were painting the railing outside our room at ASMu...Jazz building. Anyway....the railing is now COVERED with lovebugs that got carught in the paint. GROSS!!!

That was Friday....Saturday when we were packing up to leave while our room door was open to load luggage cart...room became flooded with the suckers. We spoke to a gentleman CM on the way out who said the next two weeks it will be "snowing" lovebugs. So for those heading down....be prepared.

Just remember, lovebugs or no lovebugs....enjoy every moment!

I don't know what the big deal is about them. They don't bite. We have them here in Texas and I don't pay any attention to them. They were not bad last week though. I saw a couple of them.

We just returned from a stay at ASSP. My son thinks they are two headed bugs because they were always mating. Of course, we did not explain.
There were lots of them.
