I had a question and I don't remember if I read this somewhere or just dreaming. Isn't Southwest Airlines in 2010 going to do international. I know there are probably not a lot of fans of Southwest out there - but I LOVE THEM!

We are die hard Southwest users, a big reason because we can usually fly free with them. I would love it if they were to go international, does anyone else have the scoop?

Another SW Airlines fan here! I hadn't hear that rumor, but it would make me very happy.
We're big SW fans. We're flying SW later this week for our Halloween Double Dip cruise on the Magic.

I think SW would have to change their business model for international flights. On long haul flights, passengers will want reserved seats, meal service, and personal entertainment screens. Ding!

Woody

I just realized there is going to be someone from every cruise I've ever been on, on THIS cruise! :woohoo:

I know some of my pals from the Nov 06 Double Dip have signed up, but haven't shown up here yet!

And PEG, you remember PJ from the WB Panama (you know, the cruise you cancelled) thread, not the DD cruise..
Thanks sis for making it clear to me...

And us!! We get to sail with the Arizona Sisters!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:
I'm so happy about that too!!!!
Yes, we booked this cruise. We look forward to meeting some SoCal "neighbors."

Woody
Another SoCA DIS MEET!!!! YIPEE. I still have my hoodie Mrs. Woody "helped" me buy because I was freezing some parts off! Sitting outside that day at lunch! My first PINK hoodie and a PRINCESS one at that... I think she just like to see if I'll step out of the box - I use it when I go to the theatres (freezing) - hopefully soon I can wear it around town when the weather breaks again.

I have a free night at Hilton Torrey Hills coming to me...:rolleyes1

Well, I have the logo in my avatar to start. Will that keep me off the plank for a while? :rolleyes1 pirate:

if you put the right one there ... thats the old one ....LOL

pirate:

Hurry up and change your avatar to the right one! I don't want you to have to take those beautiful babies off of your signature line!!! :goodvibes

For those having signature issues, I have tried to help those who have pmd me regarding the size and what is cut off. Just looking over the past few pages most of the images in the signatures would not have been allowed with the old guidelines of 50000 bytes total for images, so the new guidelines are actually better for you. Todd's image is over 3 million bytes for an example and the large flag banner is over 200k. The smaller version of that is even 77k so none of the group banners would have been allowed in the past. Those morphing images take up a TON of bytes but allow you to get more bang with the space. Hope this clears things up a bit and shows why you don't really want the old guidelines back for the signatures...especially me since the mods had to go through and calculate the signatures manually. ;)

Hasn't the Captain always had an over-sized self-image? :rotfl2: JK, Todd... just think how many times I'm going to have to walk the plank for bein' the scallywag I am... pirate:

Good morning everyone,
I hope all my shipmates are having a great start to the week:goodvibes

Hi Kathy! Do we want to ask about the smiley with the whip in your signature? Or is it too early? :rotfl: Maybe we'll save that for the bar on the ship...

I was wondering if anybody would notice that:lmao:

Lets just say I have threatened my fellow cruisers with it more than once on past cruises to keep them in line:thumbsup2

There are 2 distinctive whips:scratchin

The rest, well this is Disney, so just use your own imagination,:rolleyes1

Kathy

I had a question and I don't remember if I read this somewhere or just dreaming. Isn't Southwest Airlines in 2010 going to do international. I know there are probably not a lot of fans of Southwest out there - but I LOVE THEM! We have taken Continental from Barcelona and I would rather poke my eye out with a stick. USAir has been hell for us and so has American so I am willing to give them a try. Has anyone else heard this about Southwest?

That would be awesome! I really like SW and if they start in 2010, they might open up fares at a reasonable price to get everyone on board!!!

I *THOUGHT* I noticed a familiar DIS name & coordinating avatar on this thread of someone who has "close connections" to SW. If he is willing and able to comment on the international flights, maybe he'll set us straight! :confused3

Sorry, could swear I saw those cute babies on the Two Peas site.

I was wondering if that was what you were referring to... I've been on there, but not regularly, and I don't think since the babies were born. If anything, I just have a cruise (digital) scrapbook there, but I've never done anything else on the site except browse.:goodvibes

We visited NZ in '07, and just had to return.

In August '08, we spent 22 nights on the north and south islands. We're looking forward to the next time.

Woody

Thats so great to hear you had a wonderful time that you had to come back. It sure is a beautiful country.

We live in Christchurch so you have probably been to my home city.

We'd have been away when you were here in August but maybe next time we can organise a mini-meet? ;)

Southwest is finally coming to Minneapolis in March. We are so happy. Northwest Airlines has always had a monopoly and our fares are sky high. That would be great if they started flying internationally (I think, since I've never actually flown them!!!)

What I found....

Southwest Airlines has built its reputation — and profit leadership — on a low-cost domestic carrier strategy. Now, Southwest is closer than ever to offering international flights. Gary Kelly, the company’s chief executive, spoke earlier this week in Baltimore and gave some detail into their international expansion strategy. Two distinct phases are clear. In the first, Southwest won’t actually operate international flights. The airline will sell (through its Web-based reservations system) tickets for its partner’s flights to other North American destinations. Once Southwest finishes work on its information systems, it plans to offer flights through ATA Airlines to destinations in Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean by 2009.

The second stage of its internationalization would introduce European destinations by 2010, either through a similar partnership and “code-sharing” agreement, or by flying its own planes over the Atlantic. Once Southwest figures out the logistical and technical details, international operations will open up new opportunities for revenue growth. And by partnering with ATA and other airlines, Southwest could generate top-line growth with minimal investment and risk.

I thought ATA had filled Bankruptcy here recently? I dunno, could have been a different carrier, seems most of them all are having problems these days!

Hey Woody - yes, I agree with your terms regarding meal service, etc. One of my problems with Continental on the flight back from Barcelona was problems with seats and NO ENTERTAINMENT - unless you count the same movie over and over again 4x's entertainment - we just called it tiresome and annoying. I wouldn't need the movie as much as the other stuff because I could sleep or read, but I would love it. I think they were planning on Canada and Mexico, but for me - I don't really consider that "international."
