Sarah, you indeed had an eventful trip! Welcome home! I'm so glad you had many good things happen, too!
Thanks Kimberly Im just jinxed lol! I didn't remember to add to the list that Dans car got broken into the day before we flew as well but luckily no one actually took anything just a smashed window.

Morning everyone,
after reading all your posts this morning I have a question.
This may sound dumb but since I have never done this cruise before and very little out there to read about it yet I will take the chance and ask anyway;) .

we booked inclusive with Disney and will be flying in the day of the cruise ( in the morning, I assume).
After we check in on board do they have excursions later that day we can book through DCL to explore the area? What time can you board?

Are we there until late so we do have some time in port?

Does DCL typically get you there in the morning so you do have the day to explore?

I would hate to get there late afternoon and not have time to enjoy the area.
Thanks,

Kathy

To be honest I'm not sure about the excursion aspect. Last time the ship stayed at port for the night so it wasn't as much of a problem. If you do the Disney transfers though last time they gave us a free city tour.

We boarded at 1pm I think last time or maybe 2pm. We are in port late but I think the departure time is around 9:30pm so there is a long time during the day and they might well be doing trips that day.

Hi, another two crew members signing on. :thumbsup2 Myself, epcot1stfave ( Michael ) and DW hotfudgesundae, ( Patricia ). We have been on a 3 night cruise this year and enjoyed it so much we decided to book this when it opened, so we have been onboard since day 1, just that we are more of a lurker than most. Been keeping up with all the posts though. :surfweb:
Tried to get the logo into siggy but it comes up at the beginning and wipes out the ticker, will have to keep trying I guess. Anyway plenty of time to get it right. :rolleyes1

Hey another brit! Welcome

Hi
Probably a silly question - but hopefully one which those who have previously done a westbound TA will be able to answer.
Is the food on board likely to be the same wonderful quality as the food on the Caribbean cruises. I ask this because the ship will have been in Europe for some time, and I was wondering whether they have their food supplies flown from USA over or whether they use European suppliers. We had such fantastic food on board the Magic in October and hope it will be the same on the TA. I am sure that the chefs will be able to create wonderful menus with whatever raw materials they are supplied with, so I am hoping we will have the same amazing food on board.
Did anyone on the last TA have any disappointment with the food after having cruised before in USA? Thanks.

I never had a problem with the quality although the type of food was slightly more European as they tried to add a European flare. I was disappointed with the cheese plates offered on the WB as on the EB cruise they were more exciting but I think this was probably supply issues.

I have mostly crowns now, with possibly more to be done next year. :headache: It's all down to a problem that wasn't picked up until I was an adult and the fact that I grind my teeth in my sleep. I thought I'd managed to kick that habit, but DH says otherwise. :rolleyes1 When I was a teenager, my dentist fitted me with a gumshield that I had to wear when I went to bed - it really was a glamorous item for a young girl growing up to own! I of course didn't wear it as often as I should have and eventually it got binned. ;)

After having numerous crowns done, I find the worst part to be wearing the temporary ones whilst my custom ones are being made. I'm glad I'm not afraid of going to the dentist's office because I've had to have various treatments over the years (including root treatment and a tooth removal earlier this year) so I can feel your pain. :scared: Try not to worry about getting your new crowns too much, it'll all be worth it in the end! :teeth:

I have to say I have a similar problem to you. I grind my teeth a lot and found out last year that my teeth are beginning to crumble from the inside out so had to have 8 fillings last year! No crowns as yet but one root canal and the threat of more to come I understand your pain. My mother has had 2 crowns and the one they have had to have re-done 3 times as it wasn't fitted properly (idiot dentist) but she had to go on a cruise with a temporary one and hated it!

I have not had a chance to read all the pages from our vacation.
Was anyone able to get the menus from the last Transatlantic scanned?
No rush, I just didn't want to miss them!
Thanks!

I dont think so! I haven't had a chance to. Will try and photo them tonight and upload them on here as photos but they might not be very good quality

Thank you it was inspired by my favorite dessert at Ghiradelli's at DTD:love:

MMM you've just reminded me of the yummy peppermint bark hot fudge sundae I had a few days ago! God that was yummy! Anyone in Florida near Ghiradellis should go and try the peppermint icecream as its fantastic

good day,

we should have a teeth grinder's meet, lol. I also grind and actually chipped a tooth, and now it has become infected, just finished 7 days of antibiotics to and pain meds. They also had my mouth guard re-fitted since one side was too long and made it very uncomfortable to wear, now that it is better I hope to reduce the amount of dental work required in the future. Going to the dentist causes me more stress then the anything else.

Hey if any other single is thinking about taking the train overnight from Paris on the Friday night before the cruise, please let me know, as I am thinking about booking a double and would love to share with someone from here instead of a stranger. Its a long way off, but something to keep in mind.

Hey Guys,

Need your help, got an idea yesterday. You all know that I sponsor 2 soldiers right? Well, I've been in a state because I recently had some packages returned. My first thought was that something had happened. I haven't heard from any since before May but I plod along as usual assuming they get the packages as they have never returned.

So last Monday, one package came back. Finally heard from on organization and they reassigned me to another. The other organization does not have anyone right now but DESPARATELY needs help for some wounded soldiers at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center I believe in Germany?????

Anyway, they are trying to fullfill a request from the Chaplain over there -they want to hand out 500 Christmas Stockings and she only has 30 pledges right now. I believe with the economy being the way it is - she may not get this request filled. I, myself, am committed to 3 and I thought - what better way than my DIS family to try and help.

So, here is what is needed. This is a one time project and much simpler to committ to than a one year writing committment. All that is required is stocking with some items in it to be mailed before Thanksgiving and if using priority mail - by December 1st. HOWEVER, even if you miss that deadline, please mail it. The organization likes to hand out the stocking to wounded soldiers around Thanksgiving. Last year this lady orgainzed 1000 stockings.

SO, if anyone is interested, please PM me and I will give you more details on what to buy and who to write too to get the address. You all know for security reasons I will not post here but it is of vital importantace that we help our wounded if we can. Also, don't feel like you can't help if you can't sew - I am DEFINITELY not a sewer but we have this wonderful Dollar Tree Store that sells stockings for $1. That I can do!

Thank you all for listening!

:goodvibes

If interested - please contact me via PM or e-mail and I can suggest what to send - and what not too - also, the Post Office has some flat rates for military personnel and you can probably get 2 stockings in it for less than $10 to mail.

Thank you for your time!

I love this idea, I will PM you! It is such a great idea to give back a little. Stockings filled with little stuff cannot cost that much. It will be a good project for Abby and I. Thanks for letting us know.

I am also a teeth grinder and had tons of problems, but I got a mouth piece and all has been well for years. I used to have a hard time sleeping with it and now if I forget it, I have a hard time falling asleep. Funny how that works.

Dolphinman47! Here is a little pixie dust coming your way, I hope you feel better. It stinks to have the flu!

Peppermint ice cream, I usually don't like, but I will give it a try because you make it sound so good!

OK lets see if this one works. This was the first night menu:

OK Im not liking these going to try different settings. Let me know what you think?

And where can I get this pixie dust, does our resident chemist know. I have man flu today and getting very little sympathy from DW

lol unfortunately it can only be supplied at Disney World or one of its affliated parks and I can't get a doctor over to to perscribe it

:thumbsup2 Now that is a great idea.....get back with me in a year...hopefully after the wedding I can start planning better!!

I sure hope so....planning a wedding is hard enough, but adding this cruise on top of it is no fun!!! :rotfl:

That would be pretty neat to have a group of DISers touring Europe. I just hope it doesn't turn into a Griswald European Vacation:rotfl2:

Nautical mile are slightly longer than real miles...However Knots is slower than MPH ...so since the above is both Miles and MPH there probably not and Nmi and Mile issue..

A statute mile is 5,280 feet in length.
A nautical mile is 6,076.11549... feet in length.

1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour = 6076 feet per hour
1 mph =1 mile per hour = 5280 feet per hour

Knots are faster than Mph because you are covering a greater distance over time, however knots would be a lower number than the equivalent in MPH (100knots = ~115 MPH.

We didn't make it to TRex but wish we had! We hovered there one night but ended up at Ragland Road instead (they had Tucher on tap!)

It's funny how a favorite beer on tap can make your dining decision for you:thumbsup2 :drinking1

From talking to DCL when making my reservations, I can add nights to my pre-cruise stay. At the time of booking, this did not effect the price of my flights and I could add on additional nights if I choose. In my case, the prenight stays costs close to $1,000 per night (4 people), so I am thinking that if we decide to leave the States early and see Barcelona or whatever for more than one night, a DCL preferred hotel won't be cost effective. Either way, probably not smart to pay $1000 per night for 4 people. I guess we got time to work it out, but it boggles the mind.
That's why we figured on doing a Euro tour:thumbsup2 Ok, just London, Paris and DLP.

Oh no!!!!! That stinks! What is he going to do?

The pain from the extraction is going away, but the stitches are bugging me!!!! Does anybody know how long it will take for the stitches to start to fall out?
I bet your tongue is sore from playing with the stitches. :guilty:

I have 3 teeth that are cracked because I clench my teeth when I sleep. I will have to get crowns when I decide to do something about it. I'm not looking forward to it.
Yep, I know I will need a crown, but I had enough of the dentist this year, I scheduled the appt for January. Not like it's that far away...:rolleyes1

MMM you've just reminded me of the yummy peppermint bark hot fudge sundae I had a few days ago! God that was yummy! Anyone in Florida near Ghiradellis should go and try the peppermint icecream as its fantastic

The one at Downtown Disney? Or whatever they are calling it now. :lmao: DH and I still call it Disney Shopping Village. Anyway, I love peppermint!

For anyone who wants to read possibly the only review I'm doing of the food we ate this time (didn't go out for many meals as we were both so ill/jinxed we didn't want to)

Oh and here is our review of our food poisoning so people can avoid it

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2009263

Oh, Sarah, that is so lousy that you had to deal w/such nasty things; I only hope you had enough good stuff to tip the balance. Oh, and please keep trying w/the menus. I'm an absolute menu addict and I LOVE looking at them (I guess I must be a charter member of MAA...Menu Addicts Anonymous :rotfl: ).

Okay, I am soooo excited right now, I cannot calm down and the best thing to do is type and tell you guys, but my husband is at the USC Football practice in LA and he got one of the guys that I adore to call me - and we talked for 10 minutes on the phone - AHHHHHH!!!!!! I am soooo excited - yes, I love football!!!! Okay, I need to calm down because it is getting late here and I need to wake up early. Thank you for listening!!!
