Do diff countries vacc for dif flu strains?
Like what you get vacc for in usa will be diff from whats going around spain or maderia say?
I find this interesting cause we vacc dogs for kennel cough and its pretty much a hit or miss, we use the same vacc for all over europe and its diff strains all over scotland never mind europe, mostly its a waste of time vacc them for kc.

There are different vaccines for different parts of the world, but I believe it's by region rather than country. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing as getting a different vaccine may confer a type of immunity you wouldn't get at home. My DW and I got vaccinated in Australia a year ago July when we were downunder visiting, and it was a different vaccine than the H1N1 we got back home in Canada the next winter.

Hope this helps!
Richard

I'm pretty sure that all flu vaccinations are the product of guesstimates, anyway. They give you what they think will be going around later in the year; they don't know for sure. So I'm just going to enjoy myself, take smart precautions, and go w/the flow.

Promise I won't mistake you for dead - as long as I don't come across you fast asleep somewhere onboard!!

Now I don't believe your second sentence there for one minute!!!!

You are too kind. :flower3: Thanks :).

Its a great feeling tossing your passport into your bag knowing your going to use it!
We are leaving tomorrow headed to Prague before we meet up with everyone in Barcelona.
Safe travel to everyone, see you soon!
Cynthia

Safe travels. You will love Prague. We were there this time last year and the weather was great. Thank you again for the fish extender. We love it.

:lmao: I just looked at Laura's pictures of the Naked Barcelona Man or shall I say MEN!!!! All I can say is Oh Dear Lord:scared1: I dont want to see all that :rotfl:

P.S. .... Got Palos straightened out.....:)

I am glad that you managed to get this sorted out.

You guys have been amazing in sending your prayers around the world. Well, I'm hoping you can send some prayers to the powers that be for a dear friend of mine. He went into the hospital today to have a stent placed in his heart to eliminate a blockage. Unfortunately, the procedure did not work and he has now been transferred to the Univ. of Penn Hospital and will undergo open heart surgery tomorrow. His name is Eric and his wife is Karen and they have two adorable little girls (Bonnie and Annabelle) who are 8 and 5.

Please send your prayers that everything turns out well.

Thanks.

.

Eric and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Do you know what the itinerary is of the Sept 8 cruise?

Today - Day at Sea
Friday - Valetta, Malta
Saturday- Tunis, Tunisia
Sunday - Naples, Italy
Monday - Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy
Tuesday - La Spezia, Italy
Wednesday - Ajaccio, Corsica
Thursday - Villefranche, France
Friday - Day at Sea
Saturday - The Magic is coming to get us. :dance3:

In one week I will be on a plane to Barcelona.:dance3::cheer2::woohoo::yay::worship: :cool1:

I had my follow up appointment today and I am cleared to go.:thumbsup2 It also means I am cleared to go back to work. So I have 4 days of work and then on to my trip.

I probably have tons to do in those four days. Plus I still tire easily and have some pain. I am only human and can only do what I can do. If it doesn't get done it will have to wait until after the trip or someone else will have to do it. I feel really guilty about it but I know I can only do so much.

I have lots to do for the trip as well. As long as all 4 of us make it to the ship and the entire trip and we remain healthy and our luggage makes it the whole way that is all I really care about at this point.

I am glad that you were given the all clear, but not so good news about work. Take it easy and don't overdo it.

OK - so here is what I know on tastings. I have requested 2 swaps - and should have final confirmation on those tomorrow.

Sea day 1 - 19-Sep 2.30pm Animators Private Beer Tasting (40 ppl)
Sea day 2 - 21-Sep 12.30pm Animators Private Wine Tasting (53 ppl)
Sea Day 3 - 23-Sep 3.00pm Studio Sea Private Mojito Seminars (42 ppl)
Sea Day 4 - 24-Sep 2.30pm Sessions Private Tequila/Margarita Tasting (50 ppl)
Sea Day 5 - 25-Sep 3:00pm Studio Sea Private Mixology (42 ppl)
Sea Day 6 - 26-Sep 2.30pm Animators Private Martini Tasting (35 ppl)
Sea Day 7 - 27-Sep 2.30pm Animators Private Martini Tasting (35 ppl)
Sea day 8 - 30-Sep 4.30pm Sessions Private Cognac Tasting (35 Guests)

Due to conflicts with Tea I am trying to swap Beer and Mojito. i am also trying to swap one of the Wine with Mixology.

Sarah - I will PM you the final agenda as soon as I get confirmation.

Sorry I am late on this - was trying to hold out on the swapping being confirmed or denied, and gave up today...

Thanks again for sorting this all out. Can you let me know for sure if the Beer and Mojito Tastings will be swapped. I have a jewellery workshop on September 19th from 3 to 4PM and apart from me, Joanne and Noel are also affected by this clash. If this goes ahead then I need to try to find another slot for the workshop.

Help !!!!! I just realised we leave just 1 week from today and I still have a fairly lengthy to-do list !!!

finish FE gifts
finish scrapbook gifts
buy choccy for choccy exchange.
make pirate skirt.
finish door magnets and print,
Call wdw to arrange Magical Express for retrun to airport
order water package and rainforest passes
load starbucks card for visits in Barcelona
clear camcorder of last trip's footage.
inform CC companies of travel dates.
check in on line
photocopy passports

Should hopefully finish my adult FE gifts today and then I just have a couple of things to finish / buy for the kids.

As far as shopping goes I think I am all finished apart from a pair of shorts to wear on my sailing regatta trip... but try buying shorts in the UK in September ..... it is nigh on impossible

I have also got to fit in 2 power-walks !!

My to do list looks daunting as well, but I am sure we will both get everything done before we have to leave for our wonderful vacation.

So as you guys know I work nights, although I get to sleep around 5-6 hours if Im lucky, last night I went to bed with a sore throat, this am I woke up feeling like yuk, total full on cold....head,nose and I am so tired, been in bed all day, it sucks... now I have the dreaded D as well.
Dogs are doing my my head wanted walked and I cant go 10 mins radius of the toilet.:confused3
Better this week than next, but better not at all thankyou, and the worst is still to come cause I can promise you Len will catch it;)

I hope that you feel better soon and that Len does not get sick.

so I went to a different store today to get shapewear and I was successful. Not perfect, but comfortable. As it happens the store has a 20% off everything day, so i browsed the evening wear and actually tried one on. It was beautiful and I felt so good. But it would have needed shortening, and not a simple job either, so no time.
Anyway I looked in another department and they had one style in 2 colours slightly cheaper to start off with, and wow, they were great, and easy to shorted. so I picked one up. Had to ask the staff member and other customers which colour to choose. Now, if I wear my highest heels I can get away without shortening it, but they are black and the dress is blue. However, unless I quickly see some gold or silver very high sandals, they will have to do now as I don't have that long left, nor much money!!!;):lmao: I think silver would look best, but I already have a gold cover up and that would save me buying yet something else:rolleyes1.
I'm feeling so much better now!!! John thinks I look great too and that is what matters.

Looks like you had a successful shopping day :thumbsup2

Well, things here start to come along slowly but surely here. Got all my One to Ones done at work today and two of the meetings are taken care of as well. I have two more left, plus maybe a few informal chats with some of my team members. I managed to make arrangements regarding who is taking care of my team in my absence so things are coming along nicely.

This morning I woke up a good hour before I had to do and I got the final Fish Extender gifts finished. I am really pleased with the result. I also had time to start checking what supplies I have in my work box to replace the missing jewellery kits and what I need to reorder.

When I came home, I just about lost the will to live. It looked like half of our belongings were in the corridor outside of our apartment. Graham was not working today and decided to have a clean and tidy. The spare room is now immaculate and I will sort out the bedroom tomorrow.

After cursing him initially, I went through some of the boxes that were sitting in the corridor and I found some beads and cosmetics that I thought I had lost, 12 Pounds, about $5 in coins, a 30 Pounds gift card for one of the shops in town and most amazingly a great mask that I did not even know I had. This has now gone in the vacation pile and it will be great for Villains Night.

On another positive note, all of the jewellery kits that I sent to the USA have now arrived. One package with three kits arrived today. So now there are only two packages still MIA, both of which went to Canada and contain a total of 4 kits. Lets just say the idea of making up four spare kits is a lot less daunting than making up 7.

Rockin' Bar D is the place to go upon boarding to get this sorted.

Feel better Lynne! :hug::flower3:

I was very worried about this for our flight, and made Glenn call last night and confirm. Delta = no weight restrictions for our carry on and personal bag!!

Lucky you!!!

That was my understanding, and if there wasn't a FE, the you leave it in the fish (which is a letter holder)

have a great trip Judy!

Wednesday is my get pampered day! And from the looks of my schedule once onboard I will need it!

No kidding!!!

I plan on listing the Disney Magic!

Did someone say that this cruise was supposed to be a vacation? I have scheduled Glenn and I for so much I may need 2 weeks to recover! LOL! I didn't realize it until I keyed it all into a spreadsheet and looked it over. Nothing seemed huge... Tastings were the most of it, but when I added in SPA, tours, other seminars, tours, gatherings - I am astounded!
:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Sue, I was looking at my schedule too! My goodness! I don't think I'm going to purchase the length of trip rainforest room pass! I can't beleive how overscheduled I am! But I think I am in for the trip of a lifetime. I couldn't be happier. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart. :thanks:

Yes, just me being nosey anyway:confused3 but thats pretty much what I thought, so the more vaccs the better.

This is certainly the case with dogs anyway.

Just thought I'd mention that, for extra protection on board since we're heading into flu season, Greg and I went ahead and got our flu shots last week. The supply is very plentiful now and contains the regular and the HINI vaccine. You can get them on a walk-in or next-day appointment basis at many large pharmacy chains (e.g., CVS, Walgreens), just check their web sites. I always worry with so many people in such tight quarters (especially with kids who may have just gone back to school). With my luck, I'll probably catch something else but at least it won't be the flu...

Andrea

I got mine on Tuesday!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I am not beer tasting, only my DH John so I am good to go.

Sounds like you had a very productive day!!

Do we know yet which night for sure we are wearing our MMC club shirts and ears?

Disney Magic please take me away!!!! So, I was in the ER most of the night last night with my DD 4 yr old. She has croup and couldn't breathe! It was so scary!! They put her on breathing treatments and gave her steroids. Then we went to the pediatrician today and gave her more. They said she should be fine by next week. I'm just praying that our DS 1 yr old won't get this! They said it will be much more serious if he does. My DH flew out this morning. I'm so glad it was before he left for a few days. Well, I'm literally just dreaming of the Magic!!!

I'm sending you pixie dust, hoping that your family are all ok by the time we go!

I had my follow up appointment today and I am cleared to go.:thumbsup2 It also means I am cleared to go back to work. So I have 4 days of work and then on to my trip.

Thats fabulous news! :banana::banana::banana:

I call my credit card company now. I hit my Charles schwab card. As I'm telling him the places I'm going he ask if I was going on the Disney magic. I told him yes and ask him how he know. He said i was the 3 person calling him today with that itinerary. Then at the end of the call he said i will be seeing you in 10 days on the ship. What are the odds.

Reminds me of a song... how does it go... It's a Small World...

I have just finished putting the last things in my suitcases and I fly out tomorrow to London to join the ABD Cities of Knights and Lights tour. Then off to Barcelona and then THE MAGIC.

Enjoy your tour and safe travels to Barcelona!

No it couldn't be worse .... unless you actually ARE a Brit :rotfl2:

LOL so long as no one peeks at my passport and sees that I actually am a Brit by birth, at least I can still pretend to be 100% Kiwi

Better this week than next, but better not at all thankyou, and the worst is still to come cause I can promise you Len will catch it;)

Oh no, thats not good! And if Len gets it, he will get it 10x worse being a man! :lmao:

I laughed at the "rotational dinners" - we should have said that you order dinner, you get 2 minutes to eat and have to rotate to the person on your right.:rotfl2: That way we get to try a little of everything!

:rotfl2:

Okay - question.....
This is the first time I am participating in a "candy exchange" and a "scrapbook exchange". So once I'm on board, do we just "exchange" these in our fish extenders???
.

I can answer for the candy swap - its one candy bar per cabin - though I'm doing two - I can't even keep within the rules I created :rotfl:

What are you putting down for place you are going to in Spain to get through customs.

Candy exchange - is it one chocolate bar per room or the amount of people?
We all the discussion of tipping I forget if I saw do we tip in Maderia and what is the amount / percentage ?

For Spain, just putting our hotel address.

For Candy swap, as above :)

Do diff countries vacc for dif flu strains?
Like what you get vacc for in usa will be diff from whats going around spain or maderia say?

There are different vaccines for different parts of the world, but I believe it's by region rather than country. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing as getting a different vaccine may confer a type of immunity you wouldn't get at home. My DW and I got vaccinated in Australia a year ago July when we were downunder visiting, and it was a different vaccine than the H1N1 we got back home in Canada the next winter.

Our flu shots this year contained the H1N1 but last years didn't when it first hit the country. We import our vaccines but I don't know from where and they guess as to which will be the most likely viruses around.

Thanks Noel for keeping everyone up to date with my earthquake news. I really think we are all probably suffering with PTS to a greater or lesser extent. We are trying very hard to keep upbeat and not let it get us down.

On the bright side, the aftershocks are no where near so frequent but they are still pretty strong.

Mum went to England on Monday and in her emails she said she's still having heart failure every time there is a sudden loud noise. Its going to take a while for us all to get over this. I know all schools in the region are going to be doing counselling for the children when schools start back on Monday.

Hi everyone,

I am settled in my new house and most of the boxes have been unpacked. The recycling guy almost had a heart attack when he saw all the stuff on the front lawn. I have just finished putting the last things in my suitcases and I fly out tomorrow to London to join the ABD Cities of Knights and Lights tour. Then off to Barcelona and then THE MAGIC. I am really looking forward to meeting all of you. I will will keep you in my prayers that you have safe and comfortable flights. Good luck with your packing and preparations. See you soon, Trudy

I got Tru to the airport and being the geek I am found a way to track her flight. She's near Montreal now - I made her promise to call me when her flight gets in - 2am our time. We'll be seeing her shortly! I hope her ABD trip is amazing.

I AM PACKED!!!!! I cannot believe it! I was so excited. Abby and I had a great time this afternoon.

Noel, hope I didn't make the scrapbook exchange seem more complicated without reading everyone's post. I apologize. Some times I give the "gift" to the host or hostess to place on the bed too. Just another thought.

We are going to be soooo busy - and this isn't even stuff DCL has planned for us. I plan on relaxing quite a bit too - at least I hope so!!

I have some poundage to spare with my bag so I MIGHT by myself something - who knows. I did get the hair done today and the wax of the brows so that is off the list.

Safe travels for everyone leaving tomorrow!

LET THE PACKING BEGIN!!!!
:rainbow::rainbow::jumping1::jumping1:party:party::Pinkbounc

Couldn't wait until Saturday. My luggage will go fine in the overhead, so it is two large bags and my carry-on and laptop bag. I am sooooo getting a cab.

140 pounds of gear. princess:princess:princess:

Now to see what I can put together for pirate night..pirate:pirate:pirate:

How do you do this? DMIL always makes us call her whenever we fly anywhere, but I'm not calling her at 8:55 AM when we land in Barcelona. Maybe if she is awake at 2:55 AM she can see that we have safely landed.

Also, I lost track of the site that lets you follow the progress of the ship. I wanted to send that to the family worrier, also.

Laura sent me a text about 2 hrs ago....looks like they have added her son Andrew to the WBTA cruise next week! I have not seen him since 2006 so I am excited that he will be sailing with us. She now has 2 of her 3 children sailing with her and DH.

Alternately, perhaps someone from one of the other workshops might switch out w/me. I hate for you to go to the trouble of rescheduling just for me. Or maybe I'll just skip the tasting :scared1:.

That's good news, Corinna.

LOL so long as no one peeks at my passport and sees that I actually am a Brit by birth, at least I can still pretend to be 100% Kiwi

It's what's in your heart, right?

Thanks Noel for keeping everyone up to date with my earthquake news. I really think we are all probably suffering with PTS to a greater or lesser extent. We are trying very hard to keep upbeat and not let it get us down.

P&PD for all of you affected by the earthquakes :wizard::wizard:. I can't imagine how scared the kids must be. I know I'd be a big flesh-colored puddle on the floor by now. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
